Today we travel to Malta 2021. From entry requirements to picking up our hire car, I share my first impressions of arriving on this beautiful island. We are staying in the capital of Malta, Valletta, a city with a rich history which you'll find out more about in this series! The hotel we stay at, The Embassy Valletta has a beautiful rooftop to relax with incredible views, before grabbing some lunch at the famous Cafe Cordina and watching the Euro 2021 final at The Ordinance Pub.

I must admit, i think this might be my favourite video i have produced in my travel episodes. We start by going to St. John Cathedral, then followed by what i consider to be in my TOP 5 Bars of all time. I then finish in the Upper Barrakka Gardens where we witness some cannon fire overlooking the three cities.
This has to be one of the nicest European Capitals in the world.

Er macht eine Tour über die drei bewohnten Inseln – Malta, Gozo und Comino – und taucht in die maltesische Kultur und Geschichte ein. Auch die Natur ist filmreif: Eindrucksvoll ist die Schlucht bei Xaqqa mit ihren schroffen Klippen, an denen Daniel Aßmann sich in ein Kletterabenteuer stürzt. Auf Gozo lernt er das ursprüngliche Farmleben und den Ziegenkäse kennen, für den die Region bekannt ist. Besonders interessant ist auch die Architektur auf der Sonneninsel: Der Archipel ist seit der Jungsteinzeit besiedelt, weshalb es Bauwerke aus verschiedensten Epochen und Kulturen zu bewundern gibt. Der Ggantija-Tempel auf Gozo ist Teil der Megalithkultur und gehört zu den ältesten frei stehenden Gebäuden weltweit.
Malta ist eine kleine Insel im Herzen des Mittelmeers. Die Besiedlungsgeschichte des Archipels lässt sich bis in die Jungsteinzeit zurückverfolgen. Malta stand abwechselnd unter dem Einfluss fast aller großen Kulturen des Mittelmeerraums, darunter die Phönizier, Römer und Byzantiner. Besonders prägend für die Insel waren die Belagerung der Osmanen und die Einflüsse des Malteserordens, welche bis heute in der Kultur, der Architektur und der Identität der Insel präsent sind.
Auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Macht griffen die Osmanen 1565 die Insel an. Die Große Belagerung Maltas und die daraus folgende Schlacht zwischen den Osmanen unter Sultan Süleyman dem Prächtigen und den Johanniter-Rittern unter der Führung von Großmeister Jean Parisot de Valette dauerte fast vier Monate. Die Verteidigung Maltas durch die Ritter führte zu einer Niederlage der Osmanen und festigte den Ruf Maltas als uneinnehmbare Festung. Am 8. September feiern die Malteser auch heute noch mit einem Feuerwerk den Jahrestag des Sieges über die osmanische Belagerung.
Die Kreuzritter des Johanniterordens haben das Inselreich berühmt gemacht. Ihr Erbe lockt noch heute Touristen aus aller Welt an. Gegründet wurde der sogenannte Souveräne Ritter- und Hospitalorden des Heiligen Johannes in Jerusalem. Die Aufgabe der Ritter war die Pflege Verletzter und der Schutz von Pilgern. Über Akkon und später Rhodos gelangten sie 1530 nach Malta. Nach ihrem Sieg über die Osmanen errichtete der Johanniterorden wehrhafte Festungsanlagen. Sie spielten eine wichtige Rolle zum Schutz der Seewege im Mittelmeer. Der protestantische Zweig der Ritter ging 1798 nach Brandenburg, der Hauptsitz des ab da Malteserorden genannten Zweiges ist inzwischen Rom. Einige Nachfahren der Helden aus der Zeit der Großen Belagerung leben heute immer noch auf Malta. Im Palast Casa Rocca Piccola hat die Adelsfamilie de Piro ihren Wohnsitz und verwahrt und pflegt dort einen Teil maltesischer Kultur.

Hi guys welcome to aclaireytale!! Welcome to a new travel guide & top tips video in MALTA!!!!!
We have just come home from an amazing holiday in Malta! It was a mixture of relaxing and exploring, I hope you enjoy the vlog!
We start off the vlog straight away in Malta! I am talking from the top of our hotel in Sliema, Malta! I take it back to Travel Day!!! We fly with Ryanair from Liverpool Airport to Malta Airport. I include all the costs in the vlog.
We pre-booked a private transfer from the airport to the hotel via Ryanair. The transfer takes us to our Hotel, the AX Victoria. Stay tuned til the end for a full hotel tour of the AX Victoria and The Palace. Our first day, we stay around Sliema and I didn't vlog but then the next day we had a day out in Mdina! We headed to Sliema waterfront to the bus station to get the 202 bus from Sliema to Rabat. We booked a walking tour of Mdina through Guru Walking Tours. Highly recommend, we had such a good time and learned so much about the history, culture and people of Malta. We went to Rabat and the old capital city, the silent city, Mdina. She finished the tour sharing some food recommendations and I share these with you. We try the Malta Street Food Pastizzi which is delicious. We also tried the herb drink, Kinnie! We leave Mdina. The next day we relax at hotel then head into Sliema for dinner at a traditional Maltese restaurant. Simon tried their famous rabbit and I had Maltese pasta. We also had their famous bread and dip - Ftira and Bigilla.
Then we head to Valletta, the capital city of Malta! We spot the famous Maltese vans on the way to the Sliema Valletta ferry. We get the ferry across to Valletta. We have another Guru Walking Tour around Valletta going to all the famous places. We go to Triton fountain, the saluting battery, parliament buildings. We head to Valletta waterfront and cruise terminal to see the Hard Rock. Then we head back up in the lift in time for the 4pm canon fire in Valletta. We are shown why they used to do this and still do the firing at 12pm and 4pm.
The next day we head back to Valletta to go inside St John's Co-Cathedral. It truly was one of the best cathedrals I've ever seen. Inside the cathedral there are 2 Caravaggio paintings including the only one he ever signed. We then got the ferry over to 3 cities (Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua) we explore the three cities, ate in Vittoriosa and then we went to one of the Malta Sightseeing stands to book a Gozo and Comino Excursion for the next day!
On our final full day, we did the Best of Gozo and Comino tour. We booked with iseemalta and the excursion includes to boat trip to the two islands and private transfers when on Gozo. The boat took us over to the island of Gozo first where we went to Ta' Pinu basilica. We then stopped at the capital of Victoria and the old capital of Citadel. Next we went to Blue Lagoon on Comino! The bluest waters ever! We give you a tour and show you some fish and jellyfish! I give you my top tips of Blue Lagoon. That night we ate at Fortizza in Sliema, delicious.
Finally I give you a tour of the hotel AX Victoria, show you the amazing breakfast buffet the swimming pool and all the hotel's facilities.

Malta First Impressions (Arriving in Valletta)
Join me on this trip to the little Mediterranean island of Malta.
In this video, once we get out of the airport, we will get to know its charming old capital of Valletta - we will stroll down the beautiful little picturesque streets, have a coffee a beer, see a bit of a nightlife. I will show you some of the most remarkable landmarks of the cities and eventually we will take a public ferry across the bay both to the Three Cities to the south and Sliema to the north to view to stunning skyline of Valletta from the distance.

Valletta (or Il-Belt) is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It’s known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John’s Co-Cathedral, whose opulent interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece The Beheading of Saint John.
