Exploring Santorini's Iconic Beauty - From Fira to Oia
In our first of three vlogs from Santorini, we visited the most popular towns Fira and Oia (with Imerovigli in between too) and their most iconic spots. An absolutely gorgeous part of Greece, it's easy to see why it's so incredibly popular.
One of our fave meals during our time in Greece were gyros. Luckily there was a store not too far from our accommodation in Santorini and conveniently located on our walk over to Fira too. Friendly owner and the food comes nice and hot off the grill.

We stayed in Karterados which is only about a 10 minute walk from Fira. We then walked all the way from Fira to Imerovigli and found a bus stop to get ourselves to Oia. We also took a bus back to Fira later that evening.

Santorini, Greece is one of the best islands to visit. We spent a week in Santorini and put together the best things to do in this video. We hope these tips help you on your own trip to Santorini, Greece so you can have an unforgettable experience! Here are the 8 best things to do in Santorini:
8. Visit Pyrgos.
Pyrgos is the former capital of Santorini and the best-preserved medieval settlement on the island. It is located about seven kilometers south of Fira, but feels much further away as there aren’t as many tourists in the area.
7. Red Beach
This is arguably the most famous and beautiful beach of Santorini and is located in the area of the ancient site of Akrotiri. Red Beach owes its name to the original colors of the steep cliffs created from the volcanic lava.
6. Fira is the beautiful capital of the island. It’s located on the western edge of Santorini and has a combination of natural beauty, social life, night life, and shopping.
5. Akrotiri is one of the most interesting places to visit in Greece. Being a thriving community from 4000 to 2000 B.C., this town is now covered in ash following a volcanic eruption on the island in about 1600 BC. It is also referred to as the ‘Greek Pompei’ and is extremely well preserved.
4. The 4th best thing to do in Santorini is to visit a winery. Because of its unique climate and the mineral content of its volcanic soil, Santorini produces arguably the best wine in Greece.

Downtown Fira, Santorini - Shopping & Restaurants Area Orientation
Fira is the largest town on Santorini and the center of the restaurant, shopping, and nightlife scene. The most popular part of Fira is the view of the caldera, which is spectacular. However the town is also a base for the islands commerce where you'll find the banks, post office, travel agencies, hospital, government offices, and other important parts of the island's commercial and governance structure. Fira is also the bus hub, with the port, airport and every other town just one bus trip away. The main street through town is the pedestrian only boulevard lined with shops and restaurants, located just above the bus station, and a few blocks or 5 minutes walk from the caldera.

This time we visited Santorini for a 5 day itinerary. This one was super high on our bucket list and we finally made it to the beautiful towns of Fira and Oia this April to see the famous caldera sunset and eat & drink the delicious Greek cuisine.
We had a very long list of things we wanted to do/see and a detailed itinerary to make sure we did everything we could in the 5 days we spent there!
There is so much adventure waiting for you in Santorini as well as so much luxury! We hiked from Fira - Oia, took a catamaran tour to the natural hot springs, amazing sunsets at Santo wines and much more.

Fira, Santorini walking tour. Streets,shops and sunset
Firá is the modern capital of the Greek Aegean island of Santorini (Thera). A traditional settlement, Firá derives its name from an alternative pronunciation of Thíra, the ancient name of the island itself.
Fira is a city of whitewashed houses built on the edge of the 400 metres (1,312 feet) high caldera on the western edge of the semi-circular island of Thera. The two main museums of interest are the Archaeological Museum of Thera, 30 metres (98 feet) east of the cable car entrance, and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera at the southeast corner of the White Orthodox Cathedral of Ypapanti, built on the site of an earlier church destroyed in the 1956 Amorgos earthquake. The town also hosts a number of churches, including the Cathedral of Ypapanti and the Three Bells of Fira.
Fira is characterized by its whitewashed houses with the blue doors, while a breathtaking panoramic view over the caldera awaits every guest that steps foot on its ground. Apart from a romantic atmosphere and picturesque sceneries, in Fira you will also find the Archaeological Museum of Thera and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, where you can discover more about the rich history of the island.
The main square of Fira is called Theotokopoulou Square. With a simple walk around it you can find anything you need, from shops, jewellery, cafes, restaurants, bars and taverns, to night clubs for the party lovers. At the city's main streets, you can find bus and taxi stations for your transportation needs, while various travel agencies are located there as well, ready to help you plan a short trip in nearby destinations.Access to Fira is mainly by roads on its eastern side, climbing from its port via the zigzag footpath on foot or on donkeys, or by riding the steep cable car from its lower terminal by the port. The central square of Fira is called Plateia Theotokopoulou, with a bus and taxi station, banks, and pharmacies.
Firostefani is located north of Fira and although it used to be a separate settlement, today it is considered part of the capital. Its name can be translated as The Crown of Fira, because of its location right above the town of Fira, which also provides breathtaking views over the capital, the sea and the volcano.

Day 5 pt b - In this second part, we take a look around our accommodation at the Scirocco in Fira which is right above the port and right down on the caldera rim, then we go out for a meal at Metaxi Mas and then walked around Fira at night.
These daily vlogs were filmed (with a very shaky hand...oops) by me, a scatty Welsh 'lady' called Claire. My husband and I traveled to Santorini May/June 2016 for a week. We couldn't decide where to stay on the island so we decided to stay in three different towns : 2 nts in Oia - Kastro Oia Houses, 2 nts in Perissa - Meltemi Village and then 3 nts in Fira - Scirocco apartments. We also hired a car for the whole week. I hope you enjoy our adventures in Santorini .

Welcome to our first honeymoon destination Santorini, Greece!
In this vlog you'll see the first 4 days & nights of our wonderful start to our honeymoon in Fira, Santorini. While we were here we visited Oia, Nikki Beach Club, had a catamaran sunset cruise, ate at incredible sea side restaurants, (our favourite was Armeni Restaurant in Oia), and had the most incredible time in our hotel in Fira with our private pool and wonderful complimentary daily breakfast! We had an incredible time, and were so excited to bring you along with us. This time vlogging we invested in a camera stabilizer to have more steady and professional travel vlogs. I also did a few voice overs throughout. We really hope you enjoy this vlog, we ate at one of the most incredible restaurants in Greece and we highly recommend it. (be prepared for a lot of stairs to get down to Ammoudi Bay, from there the restaurant provides a water taxi for free (there and back). There is an easier walk down where the taxi's drive.. or else you can take a taxi down to the Bay and from there the water taxi to the restaurant.
