FUN Things To Do In Puerto Rico

2022 travel destinations are in full swing! Planning a trip to Puerto Rico soon? Here is a list of things to do in Puerto Rico from dining, beaches and even zip-lining Americas longest zip line, El Monstruo!

We were in Puerto Rico for 4 days but packed so much into each day!

Day 1: Walked around Old San Juan and had dinner at this amazing restaurant called Marmalade which offered a 5 course meal! We treated Lorenas mom to this special place and she absolutely loved it!! My wallet not so much as we paid with tip and taxes over $600 for the three of us but we knew that going into it and we don't regret it!

Day 2: Woke up early to grab breakfast at Kasalta which was incredible!! Price per person came out to about $10 for a decent breakfast and beverage. We then headed on over to Luquillo Beach and arguably now one of my favorite beaches! You can spend all day there and not run out of things to do, they even have a strip of kiosks where they sell food and souvenirs. Don't make the same mistake we did, go HUNGRY!! While we didn't eat because we had a decent sized breakfast, the food looked incredible! When visiting make sure to go to Luquillo Beach Puerto Rico!

Later on that night we had dinner at Raices for some authentic Puerto Rican Mofongo!!

Day 3: Zip line El Monstruo over at Toro Verde!! This was definitely one of the highlights on this trip! It is currently the largest zip line in the Americas and it sure felt like it! With 1.5 miles worth of tree lines and creeks to view as you zip down the path, it wont disappoint!

After Toro Verde, we headed on over to La Placita for a few local beers (Medalla) and some Piña Coladas! At La Placita, many locals gather to hang out, gran a drink or even dance on the streets! Feel free to dance with one of the locals, they're all very friendly and are just there to have a good time!

Day 4: Our last day... But we didn't let that slow us down, we had breakfast at Mallorca and OMGGGGG that was sooo good! A Puerto Rican sweet bread with powder sugar on top and filled with your choice of ham or cheese or both! Trust me, make sure to check it out!

We then headed on over to Castillo San Felipe del Morro prior to our flight and im so glad we did!! The views and rich history was something not to miss!

Overall, our mini weekend getaway to Puerto Rico was spectacular and highly recommend for anyone watching this to go on and visit the beautiful island of Puerto Rico!

Some of the best things to do while visiting the Puerto Rican capital city of San Juan include visiting the area's beautiful beaches, historical cathedrals, and longstanding military buildings. San Juan features a number of beautiful beaches within its boundaries, with some of the most popular including Ocean Park Beach, Condado Beach, Pine Grove Beach, and Hobbie Beach. Pine Grove Beach is particularly popular with surfers thanks to its plethora of waves.

San Juan is home to a number of historical religious buildings, with the city housing what is considered to be the oldest cathedral in the entirety of Puerto Rico. San Juan is also home to a few notable historic buildings that were used for military purposes. These include the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which was constructed in the 1500s and used by American troops during World War II.

Fun Free Things To Do In San Juan

Castillo San Cristóbal and El Morro

Located in Old San Juan, these National Historic Sites come two-for-one. By that I mean you get admission to both for $5. (Fun fact: These sites, along with El Yunque, are run by the U.S. Park Service.) I recommend going to San Cristóbal first. You can watch a short historical video before heading out to explore the fort. Give yourself plenty of time because it is huge. There are multiple levels. You can explore underground tunnels, the main courtyard, soldiers quarters, the gunpowder magazine, guard towers (very photogenic), an expansive battlefield, etc.
-Plaza de Armas One of the main hubs of Old San Juan, this plaza has a beautiful fountain, lots of benches to chill on, and pigeons that will fearlessly walk around your feet. A lot of popular cafes and shops are within a block or two of this plaza.
-Catedral de San Juan Bautista Only a couple blocks from the Plaza de Armas, this historical cathedral leaves its door open for people to wander through. The high ceilings are intricately painted, and there are a few open spaces on either side of the pews, most of which contain tidbits of history of San Juan Bautista and the cathedral itself. There is also beautifully colored stained glass and several ornate statues. It is recommended that you put a dollar in the donation box if you visit.
- El Museo de Arte De San Juan. Gratis y divertido.
-Pigeon Park. If you have kids or are a kid at heart you will love this highly unique location near Calle Del Cristo which is also worth seeing. So much to see!
- Paseo de la Princesa. Large fountain with local vendors up and down the street. We got there right near sunset and watched dolphins play in the wake of a large cargo ship. There was live music so my husband and I attempted to cut a rug. Truly a magical location to see the sun go down.
3. Free Trolley Service
There is a free trolley service that runs continuously around Old Town San Juan to take people around the city walls.
-Casa Blanca
Built for Ponce de Leon, now a museum for mid 16th century life. We had a woman give us a 20 minute presentation on the history of San Juan and the role women played in the shaping of its history. This is free though they appreciate donations.
