FLYING ON A RARE DASH 7! De Havilland Canada Downsview Farewell
A few weeks ago, Air Tindi, the largest civilian operator of Dash 7s in the world, reached out to see if I’d be willing to join them on a special charter flight from Yellowknife to Toronto Downsview Airport.
The reason for that is, De Havilland Canada was putting on a special event at Downsview, which included bringing all of their still-flying types back to where they were first built.
Let's take a ride on a rare Dash 7 and explore the impact that this single airport has had on the Canadian aerospace industry!

de Havilland Canada Farewell Event at Downsview Airport
Hi everyone! Welcome to the video!
On June 11th, 2022, a private event was organized at Downsview Airport (CYZD) in Toronto, Canada, just a short hop east of Toronto Pearson Int'l (CYYZ). The event marked the farewell of de Havilland Canada's 94 year presence at Downsview Airport as the airport itself is due to be redeveloped for residential land and commercial purposes in the next few years. Employees pastand present as well as close media were invited to attend.
An assortment of de Havilland aircraft were invited for static display. These included the de Havilland Canada Tiger Moth, DHC-1,2,3,4,6,7 and 8 ( no -5 as all of them were retired in early 2022).
After the event ended early Saturday afternoon, a special departure parade of all invited aircraft was organized. The order started with the Tiger Moth and went DHC 1,2,3,4,6,7 and 8. Each aircraft took off, made one pass over the field and continued onwards towards their destination.

RARE DASH 7 ACTION! Air Tindi Charter Flight at Edmonton International Airport
On January 2nd, Air Tindi of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories operated a special charter flight to Edmonton with their rare Dash 7! Air Tindi is the largest civilian operator of the Dash 7 in the world, but it's exceptionally rare to see those in Alberta, so I knew I had to make the drive up.
They did three of these flights in total over the holiday season, as an extra option for those needing to get from Yellowknife to the south or vice versa. I'm glad I was able to catch at least one of them, and to see the Dash 7 up close while it was parked! Huge thank you to everyone who made that happen! Enjoy this rare Dash 7 action!

FLYING ON A TWIN OTTER in Remote Northern Quebec!
Air Inuit serves Northern Quebec using quite a diverse fleet of aircraft, including Boeing 737-200s, De Havilland Canada Dash 8s, King Airs, and Twin Otters!
However, those Twin Otters only fly exclusively between northern communities and are a rare sight in the south. So, while @MarkBrandonAviation and I were in Kuujjuaq in April, we decided to go fly on a Twin Otter to another, even more remote airport!

A few weeks ago, this Short SC.7 Skyvan was doing a couple of skydiving flights out of Innisfail, a small town just south of Red Deer.
The company running the skydives was offering observer flights where I could tag along to fly onboard for just $95, and I knew I had to take the opportunity!

Flying on Air Inuit's De Havilland Canada TWIN OTTER!
Air Inuit has one of the largest operations of any Quebec-based regional airline, and mainly serves the northern region of the province, known as Nunavik.
Located in the far northeast of the province, Kuujjuaq is the largest town in this region, home to over 2,600 people. Because of that, it’s an important hub for Air Inuit and for the communities along the Ungava Bay coast.
Following a great trip there with my good friend @MarkBrandonAviation, it was time to head back home, and the first leg involved this Twin Otter to someplace I never thought I'd see again!

De Havilland Canada DHC-7 Dash 7 Flight (HD): Kuala Lumpur - Pulau Tioman
A one hour flight between Kuala Lumpur (WMSA) and Tioman Island (WMBT) with Berjaya Air, shot in July 2010.
An old, sturdy STOL-aircraft with great capabilities for special airport services.. This thing really knew how to slow down on final approach... It felt like it almost stopped dead in mid air!
