RUCH LODU | Film dokumentalny | Arktyka | Spitsbergen | Zmiany klimatu

Scotland's Islands

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2018 | We'll begin on the tranquil Isle of Iona, where Christianity first reached the shores of Scotland. Then we'll visit another of the Inner Hebrides, road-tripping across the Isle of Skye, where we'll explore Iron Age forts, peat fields, a venerable distillery, thatched crofter huts, and the dramatic Trotternish Peninsula. Finally, we'll sail to Orkney — more Nordic than Celtic — with its stony remnants of a thriving Iron Age civilization and evocative reminders of the 20th-century wartime harbor at Scapa Flow. How 16 different dialects around The Faroe Islands sound when they speak english

How 16 different dialects around The Faroe Islands sound when they speak english.

Faroese is one of the smallest languages in the World. Yet there are there few if any language which have more dialects compared to the number of people who speak the language.

On this video you can hear 16 people representing 16 dialects around The Faroe Islands trying to persuade you to visit their town or village. Localpatriotism is firm in The Faroe Islands. On the video you can see locations of the villages, towns and islands on the Map of The Faroe Islands and photos from the villages, towns and islands represented in the video.

The dialects are stressed extra much when the 16 people say the name of their local town, village or island.

Performed and soundrecorded by Heri Simonsen from Tórshavn.

The film is produced end edited by Árni Laksáfoss Simonsen from Argir.

This film is a tribute to the richness and treasure of dialects we have in The Faroe Islands. A treasure that hopefully will be preserved in the Future.

Once she rode with her horse Little Uncle through the city gate of Visby: Pippi Longstocking aka Inger Nilsson. For Wunderschön she came back to Gotland, where she stood for the famous films about 50 years ago in front of the camera. Sweden's favorite holiday island is the sunniest region in the country and offers beautiful beaches. Andrea Grießmann learns Viking chess, visits a sheep farmer, swims in the Blue Lagoon, a former limestone quarry, and follows in the footsteps of the great filmmaker Ingmar Bergman on Gotland's neighboring island of Fårö.

What They Don't Tell You About Vikings

Vikings were considered to be barbarians. But that is a one sided view held by their victims. Many many victims... Vikings weren't all that bad. Their stories just suffer from survivor bias.

The video was shot mostly at the Viking Festival in Hafnarfjordur, Iceland. My home town. It is an event that is held every year in the week 17th of June lands.

The song in the background was recorded at the Viking festival in 2019. Performed by @johnegholm5780 and Hamradun from Faroe Islands. Check out the official version. A great song I have had stuck in my head for three years. Only song I didn't get bored of while editing.

If you haven't seen Norsemen, then you are missing out.

Do you get value from my videos? You can buy me a coffee with this link :)

Chris Burkard: The joy of surfing in ice-cold water

Anything that is worth pursuing is going to require us to suffer, just a little bit, says surf photographer Chris Burkard, as he explains his obsession with the coldest, choppiest, most isolated beaches on earth. With jawdropping photos and stories of places few humans have ever seen — much less surfed — he draws us into his personal crusade against the mundane.

Real Talk:
Despite our attempt at keeping our Greenland Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting clips.

Hunting:
The people of Greenland hunt seals, whales, and dolphins. Other than fish, these marine mammals are an important food source. Every part of the animal is used. Still, among some, this type of hunting will spark outrage. However, understand that very little grows in Greenland, as the summer lasts only around 2 months. Most fruits and vegetables, as well as all other types of food, need to be imported, causing high transport costs and emissions and resulting in astronomical prices. No citizen of Europe or North America has any right to judge the lifestyle of these people who rely on locally available, sustainable food sources.

Do we prefer whales swimming wild and free in the ocean? 100%. However, in our daily lives, most of us have the luxury of buying everything we could think of in a nearby supermarket. Greenlanders do not have that option.

Greenlanders know where their food comes from. Most of us in the West do not. It is easy to judge people and their lifestyles even if we know little about them. And if after all of that, you still believe Greenlanders should stop hunting seals, you are placing ideology above reason.

Full Disclosure:
This trip was supported by Visit Greenland. The tourism board paid for our flights from Iceland to Kulusuk as well as our helicopter flight from Kulusuk to Tasiilaq. Moreover, they supported us by funding some of the activities. Additionally, we didn’t have to pay for the trips with Tasiilaq Tours and Nunatak Adventures. All accommodations and other activities were self-funded.

Atomic Pilgrimage: Ghost Towns, Nuclear Relics, and Lost Civilizations on the Road to Trinity Site

This is a video travelogue about a 40-day, 40-night road trip to the Trinity Site, where the first atomic bomb in history was detonated in the summer of 1945. It goes much farther than that, covering many other atomic destinations and driving deep into the natural and social history of the American southwest. If you'd like to see a simulated nuclear missile launch, a forest of stone pillars, Oregon's only geyser, and a 60-foot tall neon cowboy all in the same video, this would likely be your jam. The trip was done over 6500 miles in a 1973 Volkswagen bus in the spring of 2019.

Trailer | People of the Faroe Islands

‘People of the Faroe Islands’ is a documentary series by producer, photographer and writer AMYJROBINSON, following the stories of local people and places in this eight-part mini-series.

After closely documenting farming life in the summer and autumn of 2019, Amy discovered an unexpected love for the islands and way of life found there. Amy’s interest in connecting with the Faroese community and their love for the rural lifestyle, nature, and art scene inspired them to create their debut series, People of the Faroe Islands.

Explore FAROE ISLANDS/ Kazma

/// English subtitles available ///
Visit the Faroe Islands and explore Europe's best kept secret.
The World's most appealing Destination The islands received top marks for its preservation of nature, historic architecture and national pride.

Less is more
The lesson to be learned from the Faroe Islands is quality over quantity. National Geographic named the archipelago the best island destination of 2015, citing its commitment to maintaining its traditions and way of life without standing in the way of progress. The Faroese haven't bowed to the pressure of mass tourism, although it's the islands' second largest industry, and visitors are expected to endure stormy seas and unpredictable weather just as the locals would. Careful maintenance of a traditional lifestyle and consequent dedication to sustainability are things to admire in this cluster of islands in the Atlantic.

Kamil Bartošek (KAZMA)
Most of the people are postponing their plans for life, while it’s slipping through their fingers. When there is less work, when there is more money, when kids grow up, when we pay a mortgage, when we buy all of the rubbish we need or when it's time. But the world is not waiting for anyone and the person you think you are, will die one day. Remember that when your life will be asking you, whether you’ll go for it or not, do it and go at full throttle. Because there is not much to be missed, except for time. I cannot tell you what will happen, but I know for sure that if you do not try, nothing will happen at all. So live and risk everything. Because this is life and there’s nothing more left here for you.
