Exploring Xian, China : Beyond the TerraCotta Warriors

Come with me as I explore the things to do in Xian. Xian is the capital of Shaanxi province. Home of the famed Terracotta Warriors! But there's so much more things to do in Xian. I didn't realise that here you can also hike Mount HuaShan, the most dangerous hike in the world! It's one of the craziest things I've done but so worth it. There's also the Yellow River, Hukou Waterfalls, the Ancient Walled City of Xian, Muslim Quarter, and so much more. Xian is definitely the place to go in China for ancient history and adventure.

24 HOURS in XIAN: Things to Do Beyond the Terracotta Warriors | China Travel Guide

Xian, China is much more than just the Terracotta Warriors. This travel guide is all about how to make the most your one day in the city! Including must see sights, the best food spots and history of the city - all whilst keeping the budget low!

ALL OF THE THINGS TO DO IN THIS VIDEO:

Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (or Big Wild Goose Pagoda) - 1:00
A Buddhist pagoda built in 652 during the Tang dynasty. The surrounding parks are a great place to explore, with lots of very freaky looking statues around the trees. There is also a really good musical fountain show (the largest in Asia) that plays twice every evening in the summer. Best of all, it is absolutely free to enter!

Muslim Street - 1:40
The main food street area is known as Huimin Street or Muslim Quarter has a lot of great food (probably not the most vegetarian friendly though)

Tourist Bus to the Terracotta Warriors - 1:50
Don't bother with an expensive taxi, getting to the Terracotta Warriors from Xi'an Railway Station is easy. There are constantly buses leaving from Line 5 just outside the main entrance. Look for Bus 306. It only costs 24 Yuan and the journey takes about an hour.

The Terracotta Warriors - 2:00
The entrance fee is 150 yuan, which is pretty justified for a genuine wonder of the world. In short, it is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife. A real must see!

Xi'an City Walls - 2:37
The fortifications of Xi'an, also known as Xi'an City Wall, are one of the oldest, largest and best preserved Chinese city walls. It was built under the rule of the Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang as a military defense system. You can cycle around them, walk or even take a short boat trip. It's a great way to explore the city if you are short on time. The entrance fee is 54 Yuan, which is not much for a minimum of a few hours worth of walking. Sunset here is awesome.

And that's it! I tried to keep this short and not overload it with too many options - it's a 24 hour travel guide after all! If you have ant questions, feel free to ask in the comments - I always reply!

The Terracotta Army in Xian | China

Today I went to Xian China to visit the famous Terracotta Army. It was an amazing day with the tour guide.

I was staying in Yinchuan so I had to catch a flight from Yinchuan to Xi'an. Once I got to Xian, Cindy the tour guide was there waiting for me. She was very nice the whole trip and very knowledgeable about the history of this city.

The first thing we did was go to eat some traditional breakfast and then we went to see the Terracotta army. The terracotta army has a lot of history behind it so basically The Terracotta Army is a part of a massive burial tomb built for Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Qin Shi Huang was the first emperor of China. There are over 8,000 life size statues of soldiers buried along with the emperor.

This whole site is protected by UNESCO.

It is actually located in the village of Lintong, and the village of Lintong is located in an area called Shaanxi in China. Xian China is a very historic city, xian china has a lot of things to do besides the terracotta warriors. The terracota warriors are only a little part of what to do in Xi'an. Appart from the Terracota army you can go around the Emperor's tomb.

Hit me up in the comments for any questions!

Terracotta Army, Xian, China [Amazing Places 4K]

The Terracotta Army was created during the reign of the first emperor of China's Qin dynasty (221-207 B.C.), to protect the emperor's tomb. 700,000 people probably worked on the site, near the city of Xian, for almost three decades. More than 8000 figures have been excavated so far. The tomb has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

3 days in Xi'an - TOP Attractions Terracotta Warriors + more | CHINA

If you've ever dreamed of seeing the terracotta warriors, seeing the most well preserved ancient fortress in the world or simply eating some of the best hand pulled noodles then Xi'an needs to go on your travel bucket list.

We're joined by our parents who flew all the way from NZ for this special family trip. We made our way around some of Xi'an's most prominent landmarks. 3 days of adventure starting with visiting The Terracotta Army.

We have always wanted to see the terracotta army in Xian China. We were fortunate enough to see a few of the terracotta warriors in an exhibition shown at Te Papa (Wellington, NZ) not too long ago but seeing the actual terracotta warriors / terracotta army pit in Xi'an, China itself where they have been and still are being excavated is simply amazing.

Insanely crowded but it's a must visit attraction when in Xian China to visit the terracotta army.

Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum (Terracotta Warriors)
Address: Lintong, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, 710612
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–5pm

Xi'an is well known for its delicious Chinese noodles so we hit up a local restaurant for a bowl of mouth watering hand pulled Xi'an noodles. We both love Xian noodles so getting to have them in Xian China itself was so good!

We then visited the Small Wild Goose Pagoda sometimes also known as Little Wild Goose Pagoda which is one of two significant pagodas in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The other being the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda or Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Both pagodas are important Buddhist sites, dating back to the Tang Dynasty around 1,300 years ago.

Finally we took a walk along Xian's city fortress also known as Xi'an City Wall and Fortifications of Xi'an. It's the most complete city wall that has survived in China and also one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Definitely another must visit when in Xi'an China. We went closer to the evening and was able to enjoy and capture a beautiful sunset over Xi'an too.

Location: Around the city center of Xi’an
Four Main Gates: East Gate (Changle Gate), West Gate (Anding Gate), South Gate (Yongning Gate), North Gate (Anyuan Gate)
You can get your tickets at any of these gates.

The next day we visited one of the most famous mountains of China which is Mount Hua aka Huashan. The area is huge so there are multiple different routes you can take. We decided to go on a cable car up Huashan mountain for our parents' sake. The cable car line starts from Donggoukou to West Peak with a stop at White Sparrow Temple. The whole ride is about 4,211 meters (2.6 miles) long and takes about 20 minutes.

Later on that evening we return to check out Muslim Street as well as the Great Mosque of Xi'an. The Great Mosque of Xi'an despite it being a mosque is unique because of its ancient Chinese architecture. It's a nice quiet place to visit especially if you're needing a break from the super loud and busy Muslim Street.

Muslim Street in Xi'an is packed with a lot of streetfood, restaurants and souvenir stalls. Definitely another top place to visit when in Xi'an China. After a full day of adventure we find ourselves some more delicious hand pulled noodles because when in Xi'an, you must get as much Xi'an noodles as you can in you ????

Muslim Street
Address: Huajue Alley, Zhong Lou Shang Quan, Lianhu, Xi'an, China

For our final day our family went to Shaanxi History Museum. Shaanxi History Museum was the first modern national museum in China and definitely worth visiting if you enjoy learning about ancient Chinese history.

Address: 91 Xiaozhai E Rd, Xiao Zhai Shang Ye Jie, Yanta, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday - 8am–6pm

THE TERRACOTTA WARRIORS - XI'AN, CHINA ????????

The eighth day of my journey around China, where I travel from Shanghai, to Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an and Beijing. I visit the incredible Terracotta Warriors outside of Xi'an, an army built in 210 BC to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in his afterlife. Only discovered by local Chinese farmers as recently as 1974, each warrior is unique, with different details to facial features and uniform. One of the main tourist attractions in China, The Terracotta Warriors are a true wonder and an amazing example of Chinese history.

Well, I suppose you can't go to Xi'an without seeing one of the great wonders of the world! I'm not usually one for guided tours of anything, but after a last-minute change of mind, I took up the offer of having an English Tour Guide for my viewing of the Terracotta Warrior Mausoleum at Xi'an. She was extremely helpful and informative and provided some important historical context that enhanced my experience, which otherwise might have been, frankly, just looking at a bunch of statues.

Join me in this China Vlog to see the extraordinary Terracotta Warriors in their glory, with some fascinating history to go with it.

2 DAY TOUR of XI'AN, CHINA | TERRACOTTA ARMY & Great Mosque | China Series Ep. 9

In this episode of the China Series, we spend two days in the historic city of Xi’an, China. We explore the amazing Terracotta Army museum, wander through the Muslim quarter, and tour the Great Mosque of Xi’an.

THIS EPISODE WAS FILMED IN FEBRUARY 2018.

Xi’an is a city that is full of history. Because of its position in China, it was a major trade hub along the Silk Road. Traders from all parts of the Silk Road - Europe, the Middle East, & India - came and sold their wares in Xi’an’s markets.

Many influences from all of these cultures blending together are still seen in the city today, like the Great Mosque of Xi’an, which is a house of worship for the many Muslims of Xi’an.

Of course, you can’t talk about history in Xi’an, China without mentioning the Terracotta Army, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Many people don’t know that the Terracotta Warriors was only discovered as recently as 1974 and has been slowly excavated since then.

The museum that houses what has been excavated so far of the Terracotta Army is absolutely massive. The biggest building, called Pit 1, is the size of an airplane hanger. It is Pit 1 that houses all of the soldiers that you see in pictures, as many of the soldiers have been meticulously put back together by the archaeologists.

The Terracotta Army museum can be incredibly crowded, so try to avoid peak hours so that you don’t have to elbow your way through a crowd to get a decent picture.

We hope you enjoy our Xian, China travel vlog :)

3 Things To Do In Xi’an, China

The Terracotta Warriors, also known as the Terracotta Army is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century. Built to accompany the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty to the afterlife, these incredible terracotta statures play in important role in Chinese history and are a testament to ancient China.

#chinatravel #chinahistory #travel

The easiest way to visit the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army is to jump on Tourist Bus N5 located near Xi’an Railway Station. The bus journey to the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army takes approximately 1hr. It’s best to get there as early as possible. This is after all, China’s most popular tourist destination. The site itself has three main viewing sites to see the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army and other treasures that have been uncovered during the excavation.

Xi’an City Wall is an incredible sight to behold. The 15km man made wall surrounds the capital of ancient china. When visiting the wall we recommend starting at the South Gate. It’s the most grand of the four major city gates on the wall. You can also hire bicycles or hop in a golf cart to easily get around the wall.

One of the best things we did in Xi’an was not planned. We stumbled across the Yongxing Square Food Street where we smashed plates and made mash potato with a sledge hammer.

XI'AN CHINA: The Terracotta Warriors and More

Lets explore Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, China. Though Xian is most famous for its Terracotta Warriors, you will see in this video that there is more to Xian than the Warriors. There is the ancient walled city, museums, street food, a lively Muslim Quarter, pagodas, and there is even nearby Mt. HuaShan to climb, sometimes called the most dangerous hike in the world.

Though you can do all of these things in the video on your own, because of language barriers, you might find it more efficient to do this through a tour company.
