Masala Dose
One can never tire of a masala dose here. Drenched in ghee, crisp to a brown roast, encasing a smear of chutney and the gatti (firm) aloo gadde palya, it’s the sort of dose that sings to your palate.

Limited Meals
It’s name belies its enormous proportions! On the thaali sit a couple of hot pooris accompanied with a potato saagu and a dry palya (vegetable preparation); one can also opt for the masala dose instead of the poori. And then, there’s the crowd-pleasing bisi bele bath, rich in its lentil goodness, chase this with more rice, soaked up in the sambar and rasam. And to wrap things up, a couple of desserts, a simple nuchinna goddi (broken wheat) payasam and a plump sugar-soaked gulab jamun. If you prefer to not succumb to the calling of a post-prandial siesta, order for their seriously addictive coffee.

Iconic MAVALLI TIFFIN ROOM Veg Lunch Evolves For Takeaway! Rava Idli, Masala Dosa | Rerun Episode

#mtr #vegetarian #supportlocal

support local eateries, takeaway, mtr, mavalli tiffin rooms, lalbagh, vegetarian lunch, thaali, rava idli, masala dosa, hema malini maiya, bangalore, bengaluru

Step into Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, the city’s oldest eatery, In this throwback episode to see how they have evolved their popular 21-item traditional lunch to a more convenient and packaging-friendly 9-dish mini-meal.

From revamped, sanitised processes to consolidated menus, this century-old institution is revamping and reworking processes to meet the needs of the current situation. But then, that shouldn’t come as a surprise, because after all, they do have a tradition of innovating through adversities in the past, as illustrated in the invention of the rava idli during the rice famine of the 40s, or the seed for MTR packaged foods that was sown during the 1975-77 emergency.

Note: This episode was first released in May 2020 and is being rerun to support Bengaluru eateries with takeaway orders in the current situation. Please do support local eateries.

Mini Meals
No longer the enormous spread that would be a delicious gateway to a post-lunch slumber, the mini meals is compact in its post-covid avatar. But that doesnt get in the way of making for a satisfying lunch, puri, saagu, rice, rasam, palya, mosaru anna, poppadom, uppinakayi and payasam, the mini meal has all that you need to savour a taste of Mavalli Tiffin Room.
Rs. 162 (usd 2.1)
8/10

Masala Dose
Although packed in a foil-lined box, the masala dose is missing its crunch in takeaway mode, understandably, as opposed to when savoured at the restaurant. You can heat it on a tava with a dollop of ghee to make some amends, and the flavours are trademark MTR, the sprightly chutney smeared inside the dosa and the flavourful, bright aloogadde palya. The chutney is rich in coconut and green chilli spice. All in all, makes for a delicious takeaway dose, once you get past the expectation of eating something crisp.
Rs. 90 (usd 1.2)

Rava Idli
A dish born of a crisis, the rava idli is said to have been invented in the kitchens of Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, when there was a shortage of rice during the famine of the 40s. This is a flavourful rava idli that is rich in yoghurt, embellished with coriander, mint, coconut and topped with toasted cashew, and does spectacularly well as a takeaway. The aloogadde sagu serves well to moisten the idli with its savoury character.
Rs. 60 (usd 0.8)

(हिंदी मे) Exploring veg food in Bangalore at Mavalli Tiffin Rooms - MTR, Iconic Karnataka veg food

#bangalorefood #bengalurufood #breakfast #southindianfood #southindianbreakfast #karnatakafood #bisibelebath #bisibelebathrecipe #travelregime

Experience our new mode of travelling i.e. circular journey trip with us. This time the circular journey is a theme based journey, i.e. Biryani. Apart from the places which are famous for Biryani, we will also visit other places (mainly centering those Biryani famous places). In this tour vlog, we showed our visit to one of the famous Karnataka food restaurant i.e. Mavalli Tiffin Rooms - MTR.

The Mavalli Tiffin Rooms, commonly known as MTR, is the brand name of a food-related enterprise in India. Having its origin as a humble mess located on Lalbagh Road in Bangalore, it has ten other branches in Bangalore, as well as one in each of Udupi, Mysore, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London and Dubai. MTR created the South Indian breakfast item, Rava Idli.

he Mavalli Tiffin Room was founded as a restaurant by Parampalli Yagnanarayana Maiya and his brothers in the year 1924. In the 1970s, when India was under emergency, a Food Control Act was introduced in 1975 which mandated that food was to be sold at very low prices. This move made it difficult for MTR to maintain high standards in its restaurant business and forced it to diversify into the instant food business, selling ready-to-eat snacks such as chutneys and rasams. Since then, MTR has expanded and diversified, with MTR Department Stores opened next to the restaurant. Currently the MTR brand represents two separate entities; the MTR restaurant business and MTR Foods, the pre-packaged food business.

South Bengaluru’s popular vegetarian restaurant, Maiyas prides itself on serving the “purest, cleanest and tastiest food”, says 72 year-old Sadananda Maiya whose family has a legacy in food for nearly a century beginning with Mavalli Tiffin Rooms in 1924. And given his erstwhile venture, MTR Foods, it’s not entirely surprising to even find a food lab on the premises of his restaurant which merges the culinary traditions of South India with food science and technology. In this episode, I take in a quick tour of Maiyas, and also its crowd pleasing special vegetarian thali. Hope you enjoy this episode. Stay safe and happy eating!
