About Tunis: Tunis (Arabic: تونس‎Tūnis) is the capital and largest city of Tunisia. The greater metropolitan area of Tunis, often referred to as Grand Tunis, has about 2,700,000 inhabitants. As of 2020, it is the fourth-largest city in the Maghreb region (after Casablanca, Algiers and Tripoli) and the sixteenth-largest in the Arab world. Situated on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette (Ḥalq il-Wād), the city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. At its core lies its ancient medina, a World Heritage Site. East of the medina through the Sea Gate (also known as the Bab el Bhar and the Porte de France) begins the modern city, or Ville Nouvelle, traversed by the grand Avenue Habib Bourguiba (often referred to by media and travel guides as the Tunisian Champs-Élysées), where the colonial-era buildings provide a clear contrast to smaller, older structures. Further east by the sea lie the suburbs of Carthage, La Marsa, and Sidi Bou Said. As the capital of the country, Tunis is the focus of Tunisian political and administrative life and also the center of the countrys commercial and cultural activities. // Tunisia, officially the Tunisian Republic, is the northernmost country in Africa. I am back in TUNISIA for the second time, but this time just for 24 hours as I regroup before heading tomorrow to LIBYA!

The last time I came here (4 years ago) I was a broke, lonely, budget backpacker and I had a mediocre time at best.

But this time around is a different story! I had this idea to find a random Tunisian stranger from Instagram and spontaneously meet up with him/her to have the BEST DAY we could possibly have.

Let's just say that I think I succeeded, but I'll let you be the judge :)

Traveling to TUNISIA! - AMAZING AIRBNB and trying STREET FOOD in Tunis! السفر إلى تونس

This is day 1 of our trip to Tunisia!

We departed from Stockholm Sweden and flew to Tunis via Istanbul, which meant a 10-hour night layover. On our first day in Tunis we settled into our BEAUTIFUL Airbnb, which was a stunning 19th-century apartment in traditional Tunisian style.

We then took the local train to the northern province of Sidi Bou Said where we had some Tunisian street food snacks! Having been on the move for quite a long time, we quickly got very tired and decided to head back to our Airbnb for some well-deserved sleep - and to prepare for a GIANT two-day food tour of the Tunis old town/medina!

Trying TUNISIAN food! Tunis local food and STREET FOOD tour! الغذاء التونسي

We spent two days in Tunisia's capital of Tunis eating amazing Tunisian food and meeting super friendly locals - some let us sample their food, some gave us free makroudhs (Tunisian pastries) and some shared a giant feast with us while teaching us about Tunisian culture! As you can probably tell, the hospitality is truly amazing in Tunisia, and I am so thankful to everyone who made us feel so welcome in Tunisia!

Now, onto the food - we started our day off at a small, hole-in-the wall restaurant where a very cheerful man served us two classics: lablabi and ojja. Lablabi is a hearty chickpea stew made with harrisa (a spicy chili paste), pieces of bread, tuna and olives. A hearty and delicious start to the tour! The ojja (chicken and vegetables fried together with a lot of harissa and olive oil) may very well have been our favorite dish of this whole tour! Mopping up that caramelized chicken sitting in a pool of spicy harrisa and olive oil was just too good to be true.

After trying some awesome Tunisian tea following our first meal, we made our way to what seemed to be a pretty popular restaurant - El Baraka! Here, we tried an eggplant mix with lots of olive oil and tomatoes which we scooped up with more bread, as well as their signature grilled fish which was super smoky, with crispy skin and extremely tender and juicy meat!

On our way back to our accommodation we tried some Tunisian sweets called makroudh. They were amazing! We were also given these for free by the owners of the stand making them, we are so thankful! The Tunisian hospitality shines through here, once again!

Finally, the next day we meet up with two locals - Yassine and Yassine. Together we enjoy a giant Tunisian feast at the legendary Dar El Jeld, a restaurant a bit fancier than what we're usually used to! The interior was made in traditional Tunisian style and was stunningly beautiful. We tried a lot of food, ranging from fluffy cous cous (Tunisia's national dish), unbelievably tender lamb and stuffed phylo pastries (brik)! Everything was amazing, and on top of that, we were able to learn a lot about Tunisian culture thanks to our new friends, with whom we had a great time!

Tunis Travel Guide | Things to Do in Tunis Downtown with Nada by City Report Channel

Hey guys! Welcome to City Report and today's video is about Tunis Travel Guide where Nada will guide us through the Tunis Downtown.
Tunisia, 3000 years of glorious civilizations situated in North Africa, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. Tunis is the capital city of Tunisia. Tunis welcomes every year one million tourists who come from all over the world to spend pleasant moments and enjoy a special civilization will.
▶️ Here is the ultimate Tunis travel guide with things to do in Tunis Downtown
• Souks (bebbhar): The souks of Tunis are a set of stores, shops and workshops located in the medina of Tunis and mostly built from the 13th century.
• El Ali: When you enter to the souks from bebbhar, especially if you’re a morning person, I advise you to have a Tunisian traditional breakfast in El Ali.
• Zaytouna mosque: The Second place that I recommend you to visit on day 1 is the Zaytouna mosque. It presents religious history of the people of Tunisia.
• El Emba: It’s a small historical coffee shop, located under a grape tree. It is well known by its natural grape juice and its tea.
• Torbet El Bey Museum: The Tourbet El Bey museum is a Tunisian mausoleum located southwest of the Tunis medina. It is the last home of the rulers of the Husseinite dynasty.
• Panoramamaisond’orient: It is a coffee located on a rooftop of a Tunisian crafts shop.
• Bardo museum: Bardo museum was a castle of a Tunisian ruler. It was then turned into a museum in 1888.
• El Nasr: As you may have got a bit tired after walking the whole museum, I suggest having a lazy rest of the day in a restaurant or a coffee shop in El Nasr.
• Tour in Sidibou Said: This city represents the pure Tunisian city, with blue doors and white walls. And what’s much better than that is that it has a mesmerizing sea view.
• Café des delices: The Café des Délices or Café de SidiChaabane is a café designed on the terrace and created in the 1960s in SidiBouSaïd in Tunisia. Located at the top of the village, it offers a view of the Gulf of Tunis.
• Safsaf: In that place you can find a well, a noria, a camel, a gigantic tree and a restaurant.
• Dar el marsa or the cliff: It’s a hotel and a spa for you to relax and enjoy a great view. You can also enjoy their tasty delicious meal in a classy restaurant with sea view.
• Carthage Acropolium: Saint Louis Cathedral of Carthage is a former Catholic cathedral located in Carthage. It is named Acropolium as it is a cultural place hosting meetings, exhibitions or concerts.
• Archeological site of Carthage: This site involves the American cemetery which is a military cemetery created in 1960. It groups together on 11 hectares the graves of 2841 American soldiers.
• The baths of Antoninus: The baths used to be huge complex built during roman Carthage. You can also have a great sea and Bougarnin mountain from there.
• Modern theater: It’s a reconstructed amphitheater. The government uses it now to organize big events like Carthage’s festival.
• La perle du lac: It’s an ongoing project, of a very luxurious city on the lac. It’s well built on good basis.
• Dahdah: Now after you relaxed a little, you can get excited and thrilled with some impulsive, entertaining, adrenalin draining games in Dahdah.
• Lac 2 cornice: After a lot of gaming and action, you need to regain some calories. So we thought about taking you to a wonderful place where you can eat and enjoy the view at the same time.
• Tunisia mall: Tunisia Mall is the largest shopping center in Tunisia and one of the largest shopping centers in Africa.
• La goulette (halkelwed): La Goulette is a cosmopolitan Tunisian city that hosts the main port of Tunis.
So, I hope this guide will help you to know the Best places to visit in Tunis Downtown.

Medina of Tunis, Tunisia | Discovering The Old Town | مدينة تونس ، تونس

The medina of Tunis is the historic heart of Tunis, considered as one of the best-preserved Arab-Muslim cities, and has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage since 1979.

It was one of the largest and richest cities of the Islamic world. Some 700 monuments, including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas, and fountains, testify to this remarkable past.

The medina of Tunis was presented in an oval form, surrounded by a continuous wall and dominated by a Kasbah, the seat of government. It is built around the religious center of the Grand Mosque Ezzaitouna, opening onto a large platform for both marketplace, public meetings, and place for military parades, near which were arranged Souks merchants and artisans. Around these souks rise private houses with their narrow streets. - goulettevillageharbor

Is Tunisia Safe? ????????

After a total of a month backpacking all over the entire country, I can confidently tell you that traveling Tunisia is safe. You obviously need to be mindful of the same things you would in any other country around the world.

We took the local cheap transportation, louages. Felt safe.
We hitchhiked. Felt safe.
We took the local bus. Felt safe.
We took the local metro. Felt safe.
We took the local train. Felt safe.
We stayed in local's houses all over the country. Felt safe.
We tried the local foods. Felt safe.

All in all, Tunisia is one of my favorite countries I've ever visited and I'll be going back very soon.

This was filmed in 2019 during the Presidential election.
