TUNIS, Tunisia (4K City Tour) Stunning Day/Night/Walking Tour/Aerial 4K Footage

Tunis, Tunisia (4K City Tour) features stunning and spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage great for travel, visit, and tourism planning set to original music. Tunis (Arabic: تونس‎) is the capital and largest city of Tunisia. The greater metropolitan area of Tunis, often referred to as Grand Tunis, has about 2,700,000 inhabitants. As of 2020, it is the fourth-largest city in the Maghreb region (after Casablanca and Algiers and Tripoli) and the sixteenth-largest in the Arab world. Situated on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette (Ḥalq il-Wād), the city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. At its core lies its ancient medina, a World Heritage Site. East of the medina through the Sea Gate (also known as the Bab el Bhar and the Porte de France) begins the modern city, or Ville Nouvelle, traversed by the grand Avenue Habib Bourguiba (often referred to by media and travel guides as the Tunisian Champs-Élysées), where the colonial-era buildings provide a clear contrast to smaller, older structures. Further east by the sea lie the suburbs of Carthage, La Marsa, and Sidi Bou Said. As the capital of the country, Tunis is the focus of Tunisian political and administrative life and also the centre of the country's commercial and cultural activities.

Discover TUNIS: The Tunisian Capital City | 10 Interesting Facts You should know about this City !

Tunis is the largest and the capital city of Tunisia. Tunisia is the northernmost country of Africa. The country lies in the Maghreb region of North Africa and borders Algeria to the west and south west, Libya to the south east and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. The country covers a total area of 163,610 km2 and has a population estimate of about 11 million people.
Back to Tunis, being the largest city in the country, it has a population estimate of about 2.7 million people. It ranks as the fourth largest city in the Maghreb region after Casablanca, Algiers and Tripoli and also ranks as the sixteenth largest city in the Arab world. The city is geographically located at the Mediterranean Sea gulf behind the Lake of Tunis and the Port of La Goulette and extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. There is much to learn about this city and I invite you to join me as we go through ten interesting facts about Tunis. Let’s get started.

From just looking at the words Tunis and Tunisia, one can tell that they are related. Tunis is a word borrowed from the Arabic language and has various theories behind its naming. Some scholars believe it originated from the Phoenician goddess, Tanith, and hence the city got named in relation to that as it was normal back then for cities to be named after patron deities. Other scholars believe that it originated from the Berber verbal roots ‘ens’ which means ‘to lie down’ or ‘to pass the night’. They name Tunis according to the original sources means to camp at night, to camp or to stop. It is stated that the city was used as a last stop over by people who were travelling to Carthage by land. The city was very important such that when it came to the naming of the country, no other city could have done it best other than Tunis.

The Medina of Tunis, a very phenomenal place as it stands out as one of the very few places on earth where you will find a lot of history. The Medina is home to many monuments such as the Dar Ben Abdallah and Dar Hussein. The Medina was built in 698 AD and was the first Arabo-muslim town in the Maghreb region. It is situated on the Mediterranean coast of Africa and between maritime routes and the caravan routes of the Sahara desert. Tunis opens into the gulf of Tunis with its outer harbor known as LA Goulette built closer to the base of the hills. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
It contains 700 monuments and fountains dating from the Almohad and the Hafsid periods. The ancient buildings include the Aghlabid Al-Zaytuna Mosque which is the oldest mosque in Tunis and the Dar El Bey or Bey's palace which is believed to stand on remains of a Roman theatre as well as the 10th century palace of Ziadib-Allah II all Aghlab.

Tunis is mostly known for its culture and the history that it carries but is not limited to religion. It is a sacred city as it is a home to various monumental worship centers mostly for the Islamic religion. Tunis is home to the mosque of Al-Zaytuna. It is a major mosque in Tunis which makes the city a place of worship and stand out both in the region and the Arab world. The mosque is termed as the heartbeat center of Tunis. Al-Zaytuna is the oldest mosque in the capital of Tunis and covers an area of 5,000 square meters with nine entrances. It has 160 authentic columns brought originally from the ruins of the old city of Carthage. The mosque is also known to host one of the first and greatest universities in the history of Islam. And lastly, some policies and guidelines have been set site to govern the function of the mosque.

There are also other Christian churches and temples, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tunis and Evangelical churches.

The ancient city of Carthage which is now the residential suburb of the modern of Tunis was built around a citadel called Byrsa. Carthage was on the Tunisian coast where it influenced and controlled ships passing between Sicily and North African coast as they traversed the Mediterranean Sea. It rapidly became a thriving port and trading center and eventually developed into a major Mediterranean power and a rival to Rome and even fought one of the Punic wars with Rome. The success of the city and the port was becoming a threat to the enemies since Tunis was gaining control of the Mediterranean trade router and these led to various attacks to the city. Captured by the Vandals in AD 439 and the Byzantine Empire in the 6th century, it was taken by Arabs in 705 and was eclipsed by their emphasis on Tunis. The ruins now act as one of the major tourist attraction site in Tunis and if you happen to Visit Tunisia, you should make a point of talking a walk around the ruins and get to be amazed by the ancient civilization. The ruins were designated a UNESCO World Heritage in 1979.

Tunis welcomes every year one million tourists who come from all over the world to spend pleasant moments and enjoy a special civilization will.
▶️ Here is the ultimate Tunis travel guide with things to do in Tunis Downtown
• Souks (bebbhar): The souks of Tunis are a set of stores, shops and workshops located in the medina of Tunis and mostly built from the 13th century.
• El Ali: When you enter to the souks from bebbhar, especially if you’re a morning person, I advise you to have a Tunisian traditional breakfast in El Ali.
• Zaytouna mosque: The Second place that I recommend you to visit on day 1 is the Zaytouna mosque. It presents religious history of the people of Tunisia.
• El Emba: It’s a small historical coffee shop, located under a grape tree. It is well known by its natural grape juice and its tea.
• Torbet El Bey Museum: The Tourbet El Bey museum is a Tunisian mausoleum located southwest of the Tunis medina. It is the last home of the rulers of the Husseinite dynasty.
• Panoramamaisond’orient: It is a coffee located on a rooftop of a Tunisian crafts shop.
• Bardo museum: Bardo museum was a castle of a Tunisian ruler. It was then turned into a museum in 1888.
• El Nasr: As you may have got a bit tired after walking the whole museum, I suggest having a lazy rest of the day in a restaurant or a coffee shop in El Nasr.
• Tour in Sidibou Said: This city represents the pure Tunisian city, with blue doors and white walls. And what’s much better than that is that it has a mesmerizing sea view.
• Café des delices: The Café des Délices or Café de SidiChaabane is a café designed on the terrace and created in the 1960s in SidiBouSaïd in Tunisia. Located at the top of the village, it offers a view of the Gulf of Tunis.
• Safsaf: In that place you can find a well, a noria, a camel, a gigantic tree and a restaurant.
• Dar el marsa or the cliff: It’s a hotel and a spa for you to relax and enjoy a great view. You can also enjoy their tasty delicious meal in a classy restaurant with sea view.
• Carthage Acropolium: Saint Louis Cathedral of Carthage is a former Catholic cathedral located in Carthage. It is named Acropolium as it is a cultural place hosting meetings, exhibitions or concerts.
• Archeological site of Carthage: This site involves the American cemetery which is a military cemetery created in 1960. It groups together on 11 hectares the graves of 2841 American soldiers.
• The baths of Antoninus: The baths used to be huge complex built during roman Carthage. You can also have a great sea and Bougarnin mountain from there.
• Modern theater: It’s a reconstructed amphitheater. The government uses it now to organize big events like Carthage’s festival.
• La perle du lac: It’s an ongoing project, of a very luxurious city on the lac. It’s well built on good basis.
• Dahdah: Now after you relaxed a little, you can get excited and thrilled with some impulsive, entertaining, adrenalin draining games in Dahdah.
• Lac 2 cornice: After a lot of gaming and action, you need to regain some calories. So we thought about taking you to a wonderful place where you can eat and enjoy the view at the same time.
• Tunisia mall: Tunisia Mall is the largest shopping center in Tunisia and one of the largest shopping centers in Africa.
• La goulette (halkelwed): La Goulette is a cosmopolitan Tunisian city that hosts the main port of Tunis.
So, I hope this guide will help you to know the Best places to visit in Tunis Downtown.

Tunis - discover the capital of Tunisia

Tunis - discover the capital of Tunisia

We leave Kairouan and continue to drive north. What a difference with the quiet south. It takes some getting used to the crowds and the noise.
It is a challenge to drive here. The traffic in the city is completely crazy.

There are lots of people in the souk. It doesn't feel completely safe in Corona times. We walk past all the souvenir shops. Unlike what people warned us about we are not harassed and no one is trying to sell us anything.

We wander through the souk and find a great roof terrace where we can recover from the heat and enjoy the beautiful view over the souk.

In the Bardo Museum you Can find Roman mosaics that come from the former Roman cities. The mosaics are very impressive and are well preserved. Unfortunately, the bardo museum is not only known for its collection of mosaics.

The attack on the Bardo Museum in March 2015 killed 21 people. During that time, several terrorist attacks took place in Tunisia, including one on a hotel in Sousse. The attacks had a major impact on the local tourism industry as major European tour operators ignored Tunisia. Since then, tourism has never fully picked up again. Now in corona time there are hardly any tourists except in the beach resorts.

A visit in Hammamet (Tunisia)

Hammamet is the main touristic city in Tunisia. It has beautiful beaches, but also historical places. Here you see a Hammamet Tunisia travel video.
---------
Hammamet's name derives from hammam, the thermal bath (it means many hammams). The waters that flow from its springs have therapeutic and regenerating properties.
The charm of Hammamet is also due to its wonderful Medina, the old town, which, some are saying, is the most spectacular of all those in Tunisia.
The beautiful fort, known as the Kasbah in Arabic world, is found in a corner of the old town.
