Tunis, the capital of Tunisia | Best Places to Visit in Tunis, Tunisia

Tunis is the capital and largest city of Tunisia, a country in North Africa.
It is located on the Mediterranean Sea's Gulf of Tunis, behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette.
Founded by the Libyans in the 2nd millennium BCE, and over time occupied by Berbers and Numidians.
The city of Tunis has been controlled by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arab Muslims, Ottomans, the Spanish, the French, and the Germans, and finally achieved independence as the capital of Tunisia in 1956.
This history has made Tunis a city of wonder with the largest cultural contrasts.
Tunis is divided into the World Heritage Listed old city and the new city, or ville nouvelle in French.
The city has many ancient buildings and a captivating mix of North African and French architecture.
From the winding alleys of the medina, filled with tantalizing aromas and colourful bazaars, to the sleek and contemporary architecture of the modern city.
Here are the best places to visit in Tunis:

1. Bab el Bhar or the Sea Gate
2. Medina of Tunis
3. Great Mosque of Zaytuna or Zitouna Mosque

First time in TUNISIA - Meeting locals in TUNIS, the capital تونس

Hello everyone!

This is the start of a new series in which I explore Tunisia, the northernmost country in Africa. The series starts off with me exploring the capital city, Tunis, on my first day in Tunisia.

The goal on my first day was very much to orientate myself in the city, explore some markets, meet some locals and buy a Tunisian football jersey. I was particularly focused on meeting locals as there is no better way to really get to know a city than through the locals.

Before the start of the vlog, I asked a local man for directions to the Tunis medina, the vast market area where vendors try to sell some local and not-so-local merchandise.

As I walk towards the medina, I bump into this man again, who introduces himself to me as Abdul and self-appoints himself as my guide to the medina. He is quite the character as you will find out, taking me to various spots where vendors try to sell their merchandise. Trust me, you do not want to miss him taking me around the city!

After parting ways with Abdul, I stop for a Tunisian coffee at a local coffee shop, where I befriend a local man. He subsequently takes me to a vendor where I bargain in my attempt to buy a football jersey.

In the remainder of the vlog I provide insights and first impressions of the city.

Let's explore Tunisia! Please hit the like button on this video and, if you haven't already, please subscribe to my channel.

You Won't Believe This Is TUNISIA (Sidi Bou Said) Travel Vlog سيدي بو سعيد ، تونس

In this vlog, we're exploring Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia! This beautiful town is just about 30 minutes from downtown Tunis, and it looks to me exactly like a Greek island like Santorini or Mykonos! In this vlog we'll explore Sidi Bou Said, try some local Tunisian food, and check out a beautiful beach.

About Tunis: Tunis (Arabic: تونس‎Tūnis) is the capital and largest city of Tunisia. The greater metropolitan area of Tunis, often referred to as Grand Tunis, has about 2,700,000 inhabitants. As of 2020, it is the fourth-largest city in the Maghreb region (after Casablanca, Algiers and Tripoli) and the sixteenth-largest in the Arab world. Situated on a large Mediterranean Sea gulf (the Gulf of Tunis), behind the Lake of Tunis and the port of La Goulette (Ḥalq il-Wād), the city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. At its core lies its ancient medina, a World Heritage Site. East of the medina through the Sea Gate (also known as the Bab el Bhar and the Porte de France) begins the modern city, or Ville Nouvelle, traversed by the grand Avenue Habib Bourguiba (often referred to by media and travel guides as the Tunisian Champs-Élysées), where the colonial-era buildings provide a clear contrast to smaller, older structures. Further east by the sea lie the suburbs of Carthage, La Marsa, and Sidi Bou Said. As the capital of the country, Tunis is the focus of Tunisian political and administrative life and also the center of the countrys commercial and cultural activities. // Tunisia, officially the Tunisian Republic, is the northernmost country in Africa. It is a part of the Maghreb region of North Africa, and is bordered by Algeria to the west and southwest, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east; covering 163,610 km2 (63,170 sq mi), with a population of 11 million. Tunisia is home to Africas northernmost point, Cape Angela; and its capital and largest city is Tunis, located on its northeastern coast, which lends the country its name. Explore Tunisia like a local - Travel from TUNIS to HAMMAMET plus hotel footage من تونس إلى الحمامات

Hi everyone!

This is the second episode in my Tunisia series where I leave Tunis, the capital, and travel to Hammamet, a popular seaside city about an hour away by road.

The vlog starts with me giving a tour of my hotel room where I also give a travel tip for travelling to countries with different power or electricity configuration. I also talk about the currency of Tunisia and explain the value in relation to Pounds Sterling. Then I head downstairs to the breakfast area in my hotel and enjoy a Tunisian breakfast, sampling various items on the menu.

After breakfast, I leave the hotel in Tunis and make my way to the louage station using a local taxi. At the louage station, I find the appropriate minibus to travel to Hammamet. Once the louage is full, we hit the road, and I give non-verbal comments on the journey and my experience of it.

I then arrive in Hammamet at my hotel where I receive a complimentary coffee and treats as well as a tour of the room from one of the staff members. I also reflect on my journey and the change of scenery between Tunis and Hammamet, and calculate the cost of my journey using local transport.

Hope you enjoy this vlog! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments!

In my next vlog, I'll be exploring Hammamet. Make sure not to miss this and subscribe to the channel!

Best regards
Willie

Medina of Tunis, Tunisia | Discovering The Old Town | مدينة تونس ، تونس

The medina of Tunis is the historic heart of Tunis, considered as one of the best-preserved Arab-Muslim cities, and has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage since 1979.

It was one of the largest and richest cities of the Islamic world. Some 700 monuments, including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas, and fountains, testify to this remarkable past.

The medina of Tunis was presented in an oval form, surrounded by a continuous wall and dominated by a Kasbah, the seat of government. It is built around the religious center of the Grand Mosque Ezzaitouna, opening onto a large platform for both marketplace, public meetings, and place for military parades, near which were arranged Souks merchants and artisans. Around these souks rise private houses with their narrow streets. - goulettevillageharbor
