We will visit historic places such as the petroglyphs that downrope in the gods, the majesty of St. Paul's pool and its spires, and enter the cave at Gudgeon through its submerged entrance. Unveiling Pitcairn Island's North Shore: Legends and Landmarks #explore #viral #facts #hiking

Embark on a captivating journey along Pitcairn Island's north shore, where we set our sights on the iconic Christian's Cave, a renowned landmark. Our gaze falls upon Banging Iron, a colossal rock that once safeguarded the forge of the infamous Bounty. Its resounding echoes earned it the name Banging Iron, as the townsfolk listened to the rhythmic pounding of steel forging nails and tools. The forge's intense heat painted vibrant hues onto the rock, a testament still visible after nearly 230 years. Could this mighty rock have served as the plug for Christian's Cave, with its striking resemblance and direct position below the cavern? As we continue, we encounter the sole remaining Norfolk Pine atop Gannett's Ridge, a majestic sight now marked by a recent lightning strike. Witness the pre-lightning magnificence of this remarkable tree. Beneath us lies the school and teachers' residence, constructed in 1951, playing an essential role in the island's educational foundation. Join us as we unravel the rich history and captivating landmarks of Pitcairn Island. #PitcairnIslandExploration #Christian'sCave #BangingIron #BountyForge #VividColors #IslandHistory #NorfolkPine #LightningStrike #IslandLandmarks #EducationalFoundation #NorthShoreJourney

Pitcairn Islands – Henderson Island's wildlife

Watch the three-part Britain's Treasure Islands documentary series on BBC FOUR, starting Tue 12 Apr 2016 21:00. (repeated Wed 13 Apr 2016 20:00).

Henderson Island is located in the Pitcairn Island group. It lies near to the middle of the Pacific Ocean - the largest ocean on the planet. It is one of the most remote and inaccessible islands on Earth, and remains uninhabited. Due to its isolation it is little impacted by mankind and harbours several unique species of birds that occur nowhere else. Stewart McPherson made a rare visit to Henderson Island, and this film documents the wildlife that he encountered.

Please note: although complementary to the BBC FOUR series, the 40 short mini-documentaries are not commissioned or editorially overseen by BBC.

Unveiling Pitcairn Island's Natural Wonders #island #nature #sea #explore

With no radio interference, the drone was able to go almost five miles offshore and three quarters of a mile high to get these shots. Notice the whales pouting near the bottom right. It is the same mother and calf we saw earlier. We are back on the north shore heading for Christian's Cave, the most recognizable landmark on Pitcairn Island. In front of us is a rock known as Banging Iron, where the forge from the Bounty was set up protected by this massive rock. Banging Iron got its name because the folks in town could hear the men forging steel or Banging Iron to make nails and tools. The hot fire from the forge produced these vivid colors that are still visible almost 230 years later. Could it be that this rock was once the plug for Christian's Cave? The shape is very similar and it is directly below the cave.
