HELLO FROM LAGOS, NIGERIA -- COUNTRY #175!! ???????? I truly had a lot of fun making this video inside Africa's craziest and most populated city. Did you know that over 20 million people are living in Lagos?! It is hands down one of the most hectic, chaotic, and vibrant places I've ever been with a LOT of stories to tell. I'm overwhelmed.

My local friend and YouTuber named Tayo (his channel linked below) has been taking me all around his bustling city of Lagos and we've had an absolute blast together. Surprisingly, this was one of the hardest videos I've ever made because it's REALLY challenging to shoot content on these streets. People don't like being on camera here and they make a huge commotion in the streets and ask for money (etc) whenever they see it from a distance.

In any regard, I hope you enjoy this episode of my $10 series and get a glimpse into local Nigerian culture. More to come tomorrow! Nigeria is awesome!

It's time to put Niger on the map!

When I arrived in Niger yesterday, my 168th country, I was picked up at the airport by an Instagram friend named Aminata.

Little did I know that she'd be one of the coolest people I've ever met in my life!

After living in Germany for the last 7 years, she was fed up when people would mistake her for being 'Nigerian' (the English-speaking country next door). So she recently moved back to her hometown of Niamey, Niger to start an NGO promoting her country's culture and traditions. In a sense, she is the one and only 'cultural ambassador' for her Niger and she is doing big things like organizing the first international cultural festival in August.

In our globalized world of fast-paced, cut-throat societies -- it's imperative for us to preserve our beautiful cultures, like Aminata is doing with Niger.

Share this video to help Aminata's goal of putting her country on the map! I may add, an amazing country that is :)

How Safe Is Niger for Travel?

Full safety review:

Niger, also colloquially referred to as the Heart of Darkness is a landlocked country in Africa with a population of about 16 million.

It shares its borders with Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Chad, and Libya.

Like many of African country, Niger is also a former colony: it was under the French until it gained independence in 1960.

Most of the country is covered in desert plains and dunes, with rolling savanna in the southeast.

Overall, Niger isn’t a safe country to visit. With its political turmoil and UN labeling it the major drug smuggling port, violent and petty crime on the streets, there are lots to think about when planning a trip to Niger.

Niger: Home of the Lonely Tree

Would you like to explore fascinating facts about Niger, its resilient people and thriving economy? Welcome back to our exploration series. So, sit back, relax, and get ready to join us as we peel back the layers of Niger's past, take in the breathtaking beauty of its geography, get to know the fantastic people, discover some jaw-dropping facts, and dive into how they make a living. As we continue to discover more about Niger, let's not forget the incredible resilience and determination of its people. And don't forget to drop your thoughts and questions in the comments down below. Niger is just waiting for us to explore, so let's jump right in and embark on this awesome adventure together!

Looking at Niger Geographically
Taking a closer look at Niger's geography, we find ourselves in a landlocked country located in the heart of West Africa. To the north, Niger shares its borders with Algeria and Libya. Nigeria lies to the south, while Benin is to the southwest. Chad is its neighbor to the east, and Burkina Faso and Mali complete the picture to the west. With this strategic location, Niger plays a vital role in the regional landscape of Africa. Niger boasts a land area of approximately 490,350 square miles, making it one of the largest countries in Africa and the world. It is actually the 6th largest in Africa and the 21st largest in the world. It's so vast that you could fit multiple European countries within its borders.
But here's a fascinating fact: despite its immense landmass, Niger has a relatively small percentage of its territory covered by water. The Niger River, which the country is named after, flows through its southwestern regions, providing an important water source. The rest of Niger's landscape is primarily arid and characterized by the expansive Sahara Desert in the north. Now, let's put this into perspective. If you were to compare Niger to a U.S. state, it would be larger than Texas, California, and Montana combined. Although it's landlocked and not part of the contiguous United States, it stands as one of the largest subnational divisions globally and could be compared in size to a country like Iran.
Niger also boasts an impressive network of rivers and lakes. The country is home to numerous bodies of water, including the famous Lake Chad, which plays a vital role in the region's ecology and economy. So, as we continue our journey of exploration, keep in mind that Niger's geography is a diverse and captivating tapestry, filled with natural wonders waiting to be discovered.
