ARIS SETTLEMENT AND OLD RAILWAY STATION OFF B1 HIGHWAY IN NAMIBIA, SOUTHERN AFRICA

Video of Aris settlement and its old railway station. Aris is located 25 km south of Windhoek in central Namibia.

#ArisNamibia #WindhoekKhomasRegion #SouthernAfrica

Aris has a school, an old railway station, two quarries and old Aris Hotel.
Aris Grundschule is 25 km south of Windhoek on the Rehoboth road. The school has 170 learners from Grade 1 to 7. All the children come from the Aris vicinity.

Two phonolite quarries, the Railway Quarry and the Ariskop Quarry, are located 25 km south of Windhoek, on the road to Rehoboth. The two open pits are less than 1 km apart. The Railway Quarry (west side of the road) has been inactive for the last 10-15 years, whereas the Ariskop Quarry (east side of the road) has been active during at least the last decade and was active in 2011. Most of the minerals, including the type minerals, collected in recent years came from the workings of the Ariskop Quarry.
Note that each of the two quarries extracts material from a different intrusion, differentiated by its geochemical features (F. Koller, pers. comm. to U. Kolitsch, 2015).

Mineralogy is somewhat similar to that of the Saint-Amable sill (Demix-Varennes quarry), Québec, Canada, the Point of Rocks phonolite in New Mexico, USA and, in part, to that of Mont Saint-Hilaire. The most notable difference between these localities is the extreme scarcity of eudialyte-group minerals at Aris.

YouTube channel Exploring Namibia TV publishes four video a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Themes range from travelling in Africa to exploring Europe and Russia. No annoying endless begging hit/smash that bell and don't forget to sub here.

Train Safari Namibia to South Africa: A Luxury Rovos Rail Journey

Probably one of the gay-friendliest ways to explore Southern Africa - the luxury way. It is hard to find the right words to describe our first-ever Africa experience, especially because we choose an entirely new way of traveling (for us) by boarding a train from Rovos Rail. Starting at the Namibian Atlantic coast in Walvis Bay, we traveled on railway tracks through Namibia entering South Africa on our way to Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city. A nine-day train journey through endless no-mans-land, rural inhabited savanna regions, windy dunes, and the protected National Parks of Namibia turned out to be one of our biggest gay travel adventures ever ...

Desert Express Namibia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Desert Express Namibia in Namibia.
Windhoek is the flourishing capital of Namibia and it is from here that we begin a journey through this country and experience some of the magic of the Dark Continent on a luxurious train - the Desert Express! Comfortable leather seats in the Starview compartment are the perfect way to enjoy the heavens and, as if by magic, Venetian blinds open and provide a view of the desert sky. Dating back to colonial times, the Christ Church is a reminder of the end of hostilities between the Germans and the indigenous population during the period when it was known as ‘German West Africa’, and indeed German influence in this part of the world is still very much in evidence today. A popular holiday resort on the mouth of the River Swakop and the final destination of the rail journey, Swakopumund, through whose harbour everything that was used in German West Africa was transported, resulting in a regular trading route between Swakopmund and Hamburg for more than ten years - a hint of Germany on the edge of the desert! In Swakopumund there are architectural treasures that were rented out in the days of the Kaiser and are reminiscent of various houses in Berlin. This is a part of Germany that no longer exists in Germany itself. Namibia is, quite rightly, a much sought after tourist destination. White deserts, wild animals, mountains strewn with ravines, and white beaches - Africa’s south west is full of more than a few colourful surprises!

Namibia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Namibia.
Windhoek is the flourishing capital of Namibia and it is from here that we begin a journey through this country and experience some of the magic of the Dark Continent on a luxurious train - the Desert Express!Dating back to colonial times, the Christ Church is a reminder of the end of hostilities between the Germans and the indigenous population during the period when it was known as ‘German West Africa’, and indeed German influence in this part of the world is still very much in evidence today. A short journey leads into the isolated loneliness of the prairie and to lion feeding at the Okapuka Ranch in which an Austrian keeps lions in their natural environment. Moon Valley is bizarre and extra-terrestrial and for millions of years it has withstood the erosive power of the Swakop. With its deep-cut valleys and no vegetation in sight, the endless rocky landscape seems unfriendly, life threatening and impassable. Namutoni Camp is situated in the centre of the Etosha National Park and has a history that dates back to 1851. Thirsty antelopes and zebras rendezvous at a watering hole while a herd of elephants drink at another. Namibia is, quite rightly, a much sought after tourist destination. White deserts, wild animals, mountains strewn with ravines, and white beaches - Africa’s south west is full of more than a few colourful surprises!

Tour Namibia in 12 Days with Africa4us

Is there any kind of travel experience more exciting, more exhilarating, and more unique than a safari? We don’t think so, either. Today, join TourRadar and Africa4us on a 12-day tour through Namibia; from the incredible wildlife to the fantastic accommodation and everything in between, get ready for a serious case of travel jealousy as we explore everything Namibia has to offer!

One of the most important things to consider when booking a safari journey is the type of transportation you’ll be using during game drives. While the classic Jeep is an iconic safari vehicle, there are plenty of other options available depending on your tour operator - and not all of them are created equal. Going on safari with Africa4us means travelling in their brand new overland safari vehicles, which include high elevation to increase visibility, single-windows so you have the view to yourself, and plenty of storage to keep all of your valuables.

While animal sightings are undoubtedly one of Namibia’s major draws, that’s not all this country has to offer. How about visiting Fish River Canyon - the second largest natural canyon in the world? Does walking barefoot through the vast desert sound appealing to you? What about sandboarding, or, for those looking for some extra adventure, skydiving? You may not expect to be able to enjoy these kinds of experiences on safari, but that’s the best part of touring - you never know what you could be doing next!

Of course, while there’s more to Namibia than its wildlife, we couldn’t forget about the country’s most famous residents! Travellers on this tour were able to view antelope, giraffes, elephants, and even had the incredible opportunity to watch a lioness with her young cub resting at a waterhole. The biggest problem travellers often have while on safari in Namibia is answering the question “what was your favourite part?” when they get home!

Are you ready to make some memories in Namibia? Head over to TourRadar to see this itinerary in more detail, or to find other amazing safari tours. Don’t be travel-jealous forever!
