HOI AN TRAVEL GUIDE | Most Beautiful Place in Vietnam?

Hoi An is rumored to be one of the most beautiful places to visit in all of Vietnam. Since it's so close to Da Nang, we decided to take a day trip to Hoi An to see for ourselves.

In this Hoi An Travel Guide, find out all the best things to do in Hoi An. We visited the Hoi An Market, ate a banh mi delicious enough to draw in Anthony Bourdain, and wandered through Hoi An's historic Ancient Town.

Thanks so much for watching! Don’t forget to like and subscribe :)

Hoi An, Vietnam | The World in 4K | Travel + Leisure

In the middle of Hoi An is an area called Ancient Town, and the sobriquet fits. Commanding a prime location on Vietnam’s central coast, where the Thu Bon River empties into the South China Sea, this city was a maritime heavyweight for much of its history. The region was settled more than 2,000 years ago, and it served as a strategic port until the mid 1800s for Chinese, Japanese, Indian, French, Dutch, and Portuguese seafarers and traders plying the spice route.

In 1999, Ancient Town, inland from the ocean, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site, which protected its pagodas, wooden bridges, and merchant houses, many built between the 15th and 19th centuries. Ever since, tourists have crowded this historic center, essentially a romantic (if somewhat kitschy) living museum. But now a newly revamped beach resort is bringing attention back to Hoi An’s oceanfront — and a lively renaissance is under way, with entrepreneurs from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and beyond intent on steering Hoi An into the present.

Even with all the new activity, Ancient Town’s dreamy golden façades still evoke a bygone age. People start the morning by lighting argan wood incense, the musky scent perfuming the sepia-tinged lanes all day. Farmers peddle herbs, fishermen fillet catfish and eels, and hawkers advertise noodles and dumplings. Come nightfall, floating candle offerings flicker on the river. This colorful port city has matured gracefully — but a new golden era is just beginning.

Most Beautiful City in Vietnam | Exploring Hoi An - The City of Lanterns

Learn more about travelling with us on our Flying the Nest Expeditions here:

Our final expeditions episode is here :( we have arrived in our last spot - Hoi An. Here we spent a few days exploring one of the most beautiful cities here in Vietnam - also known as the city of Lanterns.

After doing the Hai Van Pass from Hue down to Hoi Ann (absolutely stunning by the way) we checked into our hotel and headed out to explore the city.

First stop was picking up group hats, before going out onto the river to celebrate the lantern festival that takes place every full moon.

The next day we were on the hunt for some local dishes - we tried the famous Banh Mi and coconut coffee.

Check out our Vietnam Street food video:

On our second last day we held a workshop day with everyone on the expeditions, teaching them everything we know about running a successful YouTube channel, travelling full time and how we started doing this.

On our final day we headed out onto the rice fields by bikes before stopping off at a local farm to learn how the majority of the population of Vietnam works and lives, before learning how to cook our own Vietnam pancakes.

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for making this trip unforgettable :)

Top 7 Things to do in Hoi An, VIETNAM

We shot this Top things to do in Hoi An, Vietnam video from what has become one of our favourite locations we've visited so far. Hoi An is simply an amazing must-visit city in Vietnam. We hope this video helps you get a glimpse into as much magic as we were able to capture during our 5 night stay in Hoi An, Vietnam.

If you're planning a trip to Vietnam, it should include a visit to Hoi An Ancient Town and you definitely need to stay from day until evening because everything changes at night. From the glowing silk lanterns to the row boats slowly drifting down the river. This little Hoi An old town is simply charming. Just be prepared for the big crowds to pack in during the evening and night time.

Remember to pick up your tickets from the ticket stations located around the Hoi An Ancient Town. Once you pay for this you can visit any 5 special attractions of your choice.

Some of the ticketed attractions we visited in Hoi An Old Town were:

1. Assembly Hall Of Fujian Chinese
Address: 46 Trần Phú, Cẩm Châu, Hội An, Quảng Nam, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm

2. Japanese Covered Bridge
Address: Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 564010, Vietnam

3. Museum of Trade Ceramics Hoi An
80 Tran Phu St. | Minh An, Hoi An, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7am–6pm

You should also visit Hoi An Night Market in the Ancient Town. Cross the Hoi An bridge and you'll enter the night market. Much more enjoyable at night with all the boats running along and lanterns fully lit up. It is a very touristy area though so just be aware of the higher prices and crowds.

Chicken Rice Place (not sure if the Google marker/address is quite in the right place, but the shop name is Cơm Gà Hiền and the photos shown are correct in the map link!)

Cơm Gà Hiền
593 Hai Bà Trưng, Phường Minh An, Hội An, Quảng Nam 550000, Vietnam

If you're looking for a nice beach to relax in Hoi An has you covered.

There are 3 main beaches in Hoi An:

- An Bang Beach
- Tan Tanh Beach
- Cua Dai Beach

An Bang Beach will be the most busy so try Tan Tanh or Cua Dai if you're wanting more space to relax.

We also went to an ancient temple and UNESCO world heritage site called My Son Sanctuary to find out some of the amazing history of the Champa people who once lived in Vietnam. My Son Sanctuary is a must-visit when you're in Hoi An, Vietnam especially if you love history and ancient ruins.

The World Cultural Heritage My Son Sanctuary
Address: Duy Phú, Duy Xuyên District, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 6:30am–5:30pm

Hoi An Ancient Town - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Hoi An Ancient Town is a beautiful and interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site in central Vietnam. Located on a river estuary, during the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the most important trading ports in all of Asia. Changing political fortunes and silting of the river meant that trade in spices and ceramics moved northwards to Da Nang, but the old buildings of Hoi An were preserved in place. These days, it's a popular tourist town with a lot of beautiful things to see.

At night time, Hoi An really comes to life! The lanterns lighting up the streets and reflecting off the water create a truly magical experience. The street food vendors at the night market serve up tasty dishes and you can even take a lantern-lit boat ride on the river under the moon!

If you’re in the market for a new suit or dress, Hoi An is your place! Famous for its textile industry, Hoi An is the place to get custom tailoring on the cheap. We were able to snag a full custom suit, made the same day for about $200 USD - can you believe that?!

We stop for ice cream and a neat tea experience before riding outside the city for a little adventure. We rented bikes and went on a wonderful bike ride through the rice fields and through Hoi An’s countryside. This was the highlight of our trip to Hoi An!

To end the night, we take in the magical colors of the lanterns and lights on the river, then try some street food at the Hoi An night market!

Hội An Ancient Town, Vietnam [Amazing Places 4K]

The Old Town of Hội An, Vietnam is an atmospheric historic town, major trading port in the past, with Chinese, Japanese and European influences. Inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site. (Quote from whc.unesco.org/en/list/948)

Also in the video - the nearby ruins of the Mỹ Sơn sanctuary - another UNESCO World Heritage site - religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom, built between the 4th and 13th centuries.

Recorded April 2018 in 4K Ultra HD with Sony AX100.

A Spontaneous weekend in HOI AN, VIETNAM. Throwback 4k travel vlog.

Hey guys, this is a throwback video that we filmed a while ago when we were still in Da Nang, Vietnam. We decided to take a spontaneous weekend in Hoi An and ended up staying the night. We filmed all day at An Bang beach on the drone and on the Gopro and stayed in a really lovely hotel in which we give you a tour of.

We were so glad to see Hoi An was busy at the time and really enjoyed the trip and hope you do aswell!

We were ensuring to wear masks and practice social distancing throughout the video due to the Covid Pandemic. Despite Vietnams swift decision making and fight against the virus - it has unfortunately returned and a few provinces and districts throughout Vietnam have gone back into part lockdown. We hope everyone in Vietnam and around the world stays safe!
