La Fortuna, Costa Rica Budget Travel Vlog | Arenal Volcano, Rio Celeste, Hot Springs
La Fortuna offers so much variety when it comes to things to do and see in Costa Rica! We spent four days in La Fortuna and enjoyed every minute of it, especially because everything was so affordable! The local food was so flavorful and being immersed in such lush nature was absolutely breath-taking. If you're lucky, you might catch a view of the Arenal Volcano when it's not hiding behind the clouds. We were able to see the sunset over the volcano and it was a sight like no other! La Fortuna is amazing overall. Don't get us started on the waterfalls and the sky blue waters - watch for yourself! The Hertz/Firefly Car Rental in San Jose Costa Rica provided the WORST customer service we have ever experienced from a car rental place (They gave away the automatic car we reserved, only gave us an option to drive a manual car which we were unable to do, and even if we were able to drive manual they increased the daily rental price 10-fold).
We recommend you look elsewhere for a car rental ( or check out our truly AMAZING Uber driver and friend named ALEJANDRO who drove us all over Costa Rica.

La Fortuna: Arenal Volcano, Waterfalls and Free Hot Springs | Costa Rica Travel Vlog ????
We continue our Costa Rican adventures and head towards La Fortuna.
Volcán Arenal, the youngest and most active volcano in Costa Rica, shadows over the town of La Fortuna, dominating the lush rainforest landscape. Between 1500-1900, Arenal remained silent and was considered extinct. However, on 29th July 1968 at 7:30am, it violently erupted, burying 3 villages and killing 87 people. La Fortuna - aptly named for sure - was spared the rocks, lava and ash.
Join us as we explore this beautiful area, home not only to a massive volcano, but also natural geothermal hotsprings and waterfalls.

LA FORTUNA TIPS:
- Swim beneath the mighty Catarata Rio La Fortuna. We weren't expecting it to cost $18pp, but it was definitely worth it. It is a well-maintained 500-step descent down to (and back up from) the waterfall - still much easier than the hike we did to Montezuma falls.
- Take a dip in the volcano's natural jacuzzis. Whilst there are resort/spa options that cost $$$, we would recommend finding the free thermal hotsprings. We went early in the morning and had the whole place to ourselves for over half an hour. Pure bliss.
- Hike towards the Lava Trails at Mirador El Silencio. It is awesome to see the trails up close. The hike through the jungle is cool too!
- Stay at Sangregado Lodge. The rooms have the most incredible views of Arenal and you feel fully immersed in the jungle, with eagles and pelicans soaring by the balcony. The service is also amazing and free breakfast is included.
- We treated ourselves a bit and ate at a few restaurants rather than sodas. We would recommend Orgánico Food (great vegan food) and Mercadito Arenal (a covered market with tacos, burgers and cocktails).
- La Fortuna is a coffee-growing region. Definitely stop in at Café Metrópoli for a coffee with a rainforest/volcano view.

Costa Rica has been on my travel list since high school and we finally got to travel to the land of Pura Vida with @TheAwkwardTourists and @trovatrip . On the first part of this Costa Rica travel vlog weeklong group trip, we fly from Dallas, Texas to San Jose, Costa Rica, and drive through the beautiful mountains to an organic farm to learn how locals grow and cultivate a living here in Costa Rica. Next, I get back on the trail to hike the Arenal Volcano- a previously thought extinct volcano that woke up and let out a roar in 1968, taking out 3 villages and killing 87 people. Luckily for us, the mountain was quiet as we hiked 3,000 meters into the jungle to see so many wild animals, plants and insects. The second half of our hike was interrupted by a rain storm but that made our visit to Paradise Hot Springs that much more enjoyable.
These hot springs are man-made, but the geothermal waters are true from the area and helped relax our tired muscles before a yummy evening dinner. On the next part of this series, I teach you how to pack for your trip to Costa Rica so you don't make the same packing mistakes we did.

Costa Rica MUST SEE: Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges | La Fortuna Rainforest Experience
Visiting the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges is a thrilling way to experience the rainforest in Costa Rica! You are so many meters above the ground and literally in the midst of clouds walking over and through treetops in this nature preserve. This activity is for those who are not afraid of heights! You are surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of many birds and animals that inhabit the rainforest. As expected in a rainforest, there is the occasional rain shower. However, the sound of the rain adds to the entire ambiance and creates an immersive experience in the cloud forest. It was so much fun crossing over all the hanging bridges that were featured in this park and we even saw a small waterfall! In some cases, you might get lucky and catch a glimpse of the Arenal volcano when it is less foggy outside. You can opt for a guided walking tour or do a self-guided tour since there are many signs all around that describe the details of each of the hanging bridges. It took us a little less than 2 hours to complete the hike through the treetops. This was a cool treetop rainforest adventure that we would recommend if you are visiting Costa Rica!

Arenal Volcano National Park is one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica.
Don't forget to check out the majestic Ceiba tree by exploring the Ceibo trail.
Also included in the price of admission is the Peninsula section of the park, which is a short 2 kilometer drive from the main section of Arenal Volcano National Park.
It is well worth the short drive as it provides great views of Arenal lake as well as of Arenal volcano.
