GUATEMALA | BACKPACKING TRIP 2019 ????????

Guatemala was our first country of our backpacking trip through Central America for four months. We've visited Antigua, hiked up the Acatenango vulcano, visited Lake Atitlan, learned spanish in Xela, went to Semuc Champey, Flores, Tikal and Rio Dulce. Guatemala is one of my favorite countries of Central America, the nature is beautiful!! And the hike to the Acatenango vulcano is still the best thing I've done in these four months. So if you're gonna visit Guatamala, this is a must do! We did it with the company Wicho & Charlies, a big recommendation!

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Central America Travel

Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Central America Travel guide, Traveling through central America
Travel Videos (Subscribe Now) ????
Surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the slender land bridge of Central America runs from Mexico to South America and is made up of seven countries — Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Political and civil unrest in the 1980s kept most tourists away for a long time, but now the area is a hotspot for travelers, surfers, luxury travelers, and even retirees.

Why?

Because traveling Central America is a safe, beautiful, filled with history, and affordable.

People have realized that it’s not the place the media makes it out to be and I’m glad the collective consciousness is shifting.

The region’s rainforests are filled with unexplored Mayan ruins and wildlife, its beaches are great for surfing, its reefs great for diving, there’s a huge variety of flora and fauna here, and the cheap accommodation, food, and transport throughout the region make it a budget traveler’s dream.

I began my nomadic life traveling around Central America.

And, whenever I backpack Central America, I fall in love even more with the friendliness of the people, the tasty food, the weather, history, and beauty.

This travel guide to Central America will give you all the tips you need to have a memorable trip to this part of the world!

Top 5 Things to See and Do in Central America
=====================================
1. Explore volcanoes
This region is rich in volcanoes. Pacaya (Guatemala) is still active and frequently erupts ash clouds; Poás (Costa Rica) is famous for its enormous mile-long crater and crater lake; Arenal (Costa Rica) has hiking trails, geothermal springs, and a gorgeous lake; and you can sand-board down the side of Masaya in Nicaragua.

2. See Mayan ruins
The region has many ruin sites but the most impressive are Tikal in Guatemala, Copán in Honduras, and San Andrés in El Salvador. The intricate wall carvings, imposing pyramids, and crumbling columns make for amazing photographs and should not be missed. Prices will vary but expect to spend around 20 USD for admission.

3. Caye Caulker, Belize
This little island is quite popular with backpackers. It is less expensive than some of the larger islands in the country and has a relaxed atmosphere to it. July is a great time to go because of their lobster festival. Make sure you also eat at Wish Willy’s for amazing seafood and chicken.

4. Visit the Panama Canal
First opened in 1914, the Panama Canal is 50 miles long and uses three sets of locks — Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks on the Pacific side and Gatun Locks on the Caribbean side.

5- Much of the region is covered in vast, humid, and stunning rainforests. A popular way to see these is to take a canopy tour, where you’ll be suspended on a zip-line and glide over the tops of the trees. The rainforests are filled with diverse wildlife, including howler monkeys, jaguars, lizards and tropical birds.

Other Things to See and Do in Central America
=======================================
1. Head to Antigua, Guatemala

Considered one of the best-preserved colonial cities in all of the Spanish America’s, Antigua (in Guatemala) is a major travel hot spot for backpackers. There are tons of pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, plenty of hostels, and even Spanish schools if you want a reason to stay longer!

2. Go diving (or learn)

The shores around Central America are home to many coral reefs. As such, diving is hugely popular. The colors and variety of fish will amaze you, as will the clear visibility. Diving here is cheaper than in the Caribbean and most parts of Mexico. Popular dive countries include Panama, Honduras, and Belize. Expect to pay 50-100 USD for a two-tank dive, or a few hundred dollars for your certification course.

3. Tour coffee plantations

The entire region is known for its coffee, particularly Costa Rica and Panama. Tour the plantations, and see how the beans are grown, picked, and ground. You can also pick up fresh coffee at heavily discounted prices. I’ve found the best coffee to be from Monteverde, Costa Rica….and I don’t even like coffee! But I drank this — it tasted like chocolate!

4. Visit Chichicastenango

Most people who come to Guatemala visit Chichicastenango, the largest native market in Central America. Most stalls carry handicrafts, blankets, pottery, and souvenirs, and these markets are often also the best places to find local food for very little money.

5. Tour the museums

Most cities in the region are filled with museums, particularly those paying homage to the Mayan civilization. The Gold Museum in San José, Costa Rica is fascinating. For Mayan artifacts, head to the Copán Village Archaeology Museum (7 USD admission).

CENTRAL AMERICA BACKPACKING TRIP | Mexico, Belize & Guatemala - Trailer

I went solo backpacking around Central America for 6 weeks, travelling through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

This 3 part documentary series shows the entire backpacking experience.

From the fun activities, beautiful sites, crazy parties, to the exhausting journeys and the good, bad and ugly hostels.

Flying into Cancun, Mexico, I made my way to Tulum to check out the cenotes. Then chilled out at the beautiful Lake Bacalar before crossing the border into Belize.

Caye Caulker island was a great place to chill and party, as well as do some incredible snorkelling. From here I took a 3 day island-hopping boat tour with Ragamuffin tours along the Belize Barrier Reef.

Heading inland I went to San Ignacio, exploring the Caracol ruins by jeep. Then I crossed the border into Guatemala, staying in the beautiful town of Flores to visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Next stop was the beautiful Semuc Champey, stunning waterfalls in the jungle-filled mountains. Then I went to Antigua and got to roast some marsh-mellows on Pacaya volcano.

I then did a 3 day trek from Xela to Lake Atitlan, hiking through cloud forests, corn fields, small villages and staying with local families.

At Lake Atitlan I got to try out horse-riding for the first time before finishing up my trip at El Paredon on the Pacific Coast.

Let Asuaire Travel help you experience the most beautiful destinations in Central America! ????

What Are The Best Places To Visit In Central America?

First of all, I want to state that the countries in Central America are Costa Rica Panama, Nicaragua Guatemala Honduras, El Salvador, and Belize. So you have six opportunities. If you have at least two weeks or start scratching your map and come to Central America six times, which would be awesome if you can do that.

0:50 Best Places To Visit In Central America #1: Costa Rica
Let's start with one of my favorites and the one that I'm currently located, which is Costa Rica, the land of Pura Vida. One of the best places to visit is Manuel Antonio, which is a national park. With fantastic beaches, so you have a little bit of everything.

The next place I love here in Costa Rica is the Arenal Volcano.
You can enjoy a full crater volcano with hot springs and enjoy a lot of Adventure like the canopy tour hanging Bridges.

You can do rafting then you can go to another place which I love that it's Monteverde. Monteverde is a cloud forest. It's a little bit more chilly, but it's a fantastic place to enjoy nature and relax in the Pura Vida of Costa Rica.

Then you can, of course, relax on the famous beaches of Guanacaste like Papagayo golf or Tamarindo fantastic Paradise for surfing.

1:50 Best Places To Visit In Central America #2
My next destination would be Nicaragua, where you can also enjoy premium surfing and fantastic food. In the areas of San Juan Del Sur and Granada, which is one of the best Colonial towns in Central America

2:08 Best Places To Visit In Central America #3: Guatemala
The other one that it's a beautiful Colonial Town is Antigua in Guatemala. This one is a must, and it's one of the Hidden gems that we have in Central America that you have to discover another place that I like.

If you're into the Mayan culture, Guatemala is one of the places that you must visit it. Little by little getting more well-known and it's just fantastic to explore the pyramids and get into the stories and the mysteries of what could have happened with this amazing culture.

2:41 Best Places To Visit In Central America #4: Belize
Another place that I love again is in beliefs if you like the beach and the diving or snorkeling or just relaxing on white sandy beaches, of course, you have all of the coasts of Belize where you can enjoy this. Go to Ramon's Village, for example, or staying in ambergris key, which is a fantastic place to get fresh seafood as well.

3:03 Best Places To Visit In Central America #5: Panama
Panama has a lot to offer not only the Panama Canal which is, of course, what a lot of people want to explore what it's like to cross from the Pacific to the Caribbean in just one day. It's a fantastic experience. But Panama offers a lot more you can have rainforest you have a lot of indigenous cultures that you can live and eat with them and learn about the little crafts that they do which are fantastic and Panama you have places like the Kuna Yala Islands.

You can rent a boat and drive around and sleep there in little huts or if you want to stay on a catamaran. It's a fantastic place to visit and also the famous Bocas del Toro in Panama, which is a surfers paradise and just pristine surfing and just relaxing depending on what you're looking for.
