Everest Base Camp October 2015: Three Passes Route

The most common trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp follows the busy route up the valleys of the Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola rivers. The three passes route we took diverts up the Bhote Koshi valley, then heads across the grain of the ridges over three passes to take in the views. These views include four 8000m peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Between the first two passes are the five Gokyo lakes, and between the second two is Everest Base Camp. At the end was Kathmandu, including Durbar Square. It was booked through KE Adventure Travel.

On 25th April & 12th May 2015 two large earthquakes hit Nepal. Thousands were killed or injured and hundreds of thousands displaced due to damage to buildings and infrastructure.

This trip was 10th October - 2nd November 2015, though I originally booked my place on 30th March, before the earthquakes.

Tourism is apparently Nepal's largest industry. In most areas the Nepalis quickly repaired tourist facilities damaged by the earthquakes to preserve their livelihood, but visitor numbers have plummeted. The last words of our Nepali tour leader when I returned home were something like please spread the word - tell people to come.

I did not know before travelling that there is new civil unrest in Nepal over representation of the south in the new constitution published on 20th September 2015. Blockades are causing lack of fuel for cooking/transport and shortage of other goods/medicines, especially for locals. Our group also had rescheduled international flights and delayed baggage.

Nepal is a wonderful place to explore with stunning scenery, varied culture and very friendly people. I urge you to visit them, giving yourself an amazing holiday and supporting their recovery, but take into account the possible effects of the shortages on both your own plans and local people. Check the latest news.

The Quest For Everest: Ep 3 - Everest Base Camp Trek, Nepal

My flatmate Chris and I returned to Nepal to attempt the Everest Base Camp Trek in this travel documentary.

The 12 day trek is a round trip of 124km, reaching an altitude of 5,545 metres or 18,192 feet.

The problem however is that 18 months beforehand, we tried to reach the Tibetan Everest Base Camp only for Chris to be hospitalised for 3 nights with severe altitude sickness.

After failing to reach Everest on that trip we returned to Nepal to complete our Quest.

This is the epic finale to our Quest For Everest trilogy featuring a brand new score created by Jack Nicholson.

2015 - OCTOBER - NEPAL LEG 3 - Everest Base Camp

In 2015 I set off to Nepal with a couple of friends to spend five weeks exploring the amazing country. The trip took me from Jiri to Lukla, then on to Everest Base Camp and finally to the summit of Island Peak.

These videos go to show what an amazing trip this was.

THREE PASSES TREK + EVEREST BASECAMP | NEPAL | UNGUIDED (Part 1)

We start our hike of the Three Passes and Everest Basecamp trek. We go unguided and without any porters. This is part of one of our Three High Passes and EBC Trek series. We start in Kathamandu and then head to Ramchamp, and then fly to Lukla. We then go from Lukla to Phakding. On our second day we hike Phakding to Namche.

We love trekking in the Himalayas in Nepal, and this is our 2nd long trek we have done in Nepal. We hope you enjoy the adventure and beauty of trekking in the beautiful Everest region :)

This is a compilation edit of an adventure that I filmed in November, 2016 while trekking the Three Passes in Nepal. The Himalayan vistas in the Everest region are absolutely breathtaking and the people are incredibly friendly. This trek starts and ends in Namche Bazaar, and covers 120 miles (195km). You go over 3 high passes; Renjo La, Cho La, and Kongma La, all well over 5,000 meters (16k feet). I also made a little swing to Everest Base Camp to check out that monster. I completed the trek in 12 days.

EVEREST BASE CAMP + THREE PASSES TREK - UNGUIDED - The Way Overland - Episode 44

Read the full blog post here -

Take a seat, grab that drink and get comfy guys as this is a long one! We had a lot of fun filming this one and we hope you enjoy watching it!

Following a scenic drive up into the mountains we reached a small lodge (Hilltop Guesthouse) at the Taksindu Pass (3000m), where we arranged with the friendly owner, Pasang Sherpa, to leave the Troopy under his watchful eye for the duration of our trek. Before leaving the Troopy behind and setting off for the epic month ahead we had a few things to get sorted; repacking our packs, charging batteries (a costly exercise in the lodges), packing down the Troopy making sure everything was going to be secure and safe.

The following morning we managed to get away by about 10am for the first part of the trek; Taksindu to Namche. Most people (95%) usually fly into Lukla and hike for two days to reach Namche; we decided to trek the extra few days because we could drive there as well as get some (much needed) fitness preparation for what was to come.

To reach Namche we took 5 days, covering 50km of constantly changing terrain, approximately 4km of elevation loss and gain, a million farting mules pushing their way past, and glimpses of the snow capped mountains peeping their heads out ahead of us.

Following a killer and dusty hike up the mountain to Namche (3,440m), we arrived at lunch time and found a small lodge to stay with a very friendly host, the Valley View Lodge. After 5 days of trekking it was nice to take the boots off! We spent 2 nights here, taking the next day as an acclimatisation day. The air traffic in Namche is non-stop with helicopters landing at one of many helipads bringing supplies in and taking tourists on scenic flights (or picking them up when they've had enough with trekking!). Being with 2 males who take an interest to these sorts of things, we spent a good chunk of our day off at one of the helipads getting right up close to the action. So close that if you stood up when a chopper was landing you might get a haircut.

Okay, okay now for what this whole episode is about, our UNGUIDED 3 PASSES TREK + EVEREST BASE CAMP! A 130km trek that includes visiting the bustling Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,570m), climbing Chukhung Ri (5,550m), crossing Kongma La (5,535m), ticking EBC (5380m) and Kalapathar (5,643m) off the bucket list, crossing Cho La (5,380m) and its slippery glacier, exploring Gokyo and its beautiful lakes, and finishing it all off with an amazing view of Gokyo and Everest from Renjo La (5,388m).

As this is a long post, we'll finish it here. You can read the full write up over on our blog here -

That's a wrap for this episode! Thanks for watching! In the next episode we’ll be heading back to Kathmandu before exploring western Nepal.

Nepal- Everest Base Camp Three Passes Trek

Nov. 2015

Nepal Three Passes Trek: 21 days in the Solukhumbu including Everest Base Camp - 1080p HD

Sara and Connor hiked for three weeks among the highest peaks in the world, crossing three mountain passes over 5,000 meters, staying in Nepalese tea houses and meeting an amazing, diverse group of people.

The Three Passes Trek in Nepal-Episode 5-Dingboche to Chukhung

The Three Passes Trek is in Nepal absolutely stunning. The Himalayan vistas are breathtaking, the people are incredibly friendly and the Dal Bhat is tasty. This trek takes you over 3 high passes; Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La, all over 5,000 meters (16k feet). A little swing to Everest Base Camp is frosting on the cake. I did this trek in mid-November to early December, there's no snowstorms at this time, but it's a little chilly at night. In this episode, I make a short walk from Dingboche to Chukhung and reach the highest altitude of my life!
