Eva zu Beck: What it's like to be a Tourist in Iraq | Baghdad and the Ancient City of Babylon

Iraq wouldn’t be most people’s first choice of destination. The country has been considered unstable for a long time now. The German foreign office warns people off visiting. Years of dictatorship, war and terrorism have left their mark. But this country between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers is also a cradle of civilization, where some of the earliest advanced cultures developed.
Travel vlogger @evazubeck explored ancient Babylon, once one of the most important cities of antiquity. Back in Bagdahd, she visited bazars and cafés, and immersed herself in the Iraqi capital’s nightlife. Watch her adventures!
Good to know: Since April 2021, travelers from 37 countries no longer have to apply for a visa in advance to enter Iraq. Instead, you can get one on entry. For a long time it wasn’t that simple. So Eva grabbed her chance at the end of 2021.

The first time I heard about Babylon was in first grade -- my teacher taught me that human civilization started in ancient Mesopotamia, at the intersection point of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Well, not only did I just visit that exact place where the two rivers meet (in the center of Iraq), but I ventured deep into BABYLON. This ancient civilization dates back to the 19th Century BC, and is absolutely mind blowing. The best part is that my buddy Alvaro and I were THE ONLY ONES THERE.

If these ruins were in a country like Italy or Spain, then they would be the most visited sites on earth... But sadly, we are deep in the heart of Iraq, a nation that has been torn apart by war and turmoil over the last 30 years.

I've been to 194 countries and I've seen a lot of cool things and places, but this ranks up there as one of the best. It might just be number 1. It's really hard to put into words the feeling of walking these grounds, which are still being excavated to this day.

I hope that you guys enjoy our adventure around Babylon and that you learn something new. I am so grateful to have this platform and be able to share my experiences with you, because so few outsiders get to come here. Thanks for reading this and I'll see you next week!

Bangladesh is such a diverse, fascinating country, and I can't believe a year has gone by since I visited (yes, this vlog is way overdue!). During my travels in Bangladesh, I visited the region of Sylhet, which is green and luscious, with so many distinctive communities and cultures scattered around its villages. In this vlog, I show you around a Manipuri (or Meitei) community's village - they're an ethnic group with their own culture, language and history.

A huge thank you to my friends Rakibur and Nasiba from Sylhet, who put us in touch with Raju and welcomed us to his Manipuri community with open arms. They run a small, family-owned hotel in Sylhet called Swiss Valley, where we stayed during our entire trip in Sylhet. You can check it out here:

Visiting Ancient Babylon in 2022 – Tourists in Iraq ???????? Al Hilla, Babylon | The German Travel Guy

This is the 3rd and final video of my Iraq Travel series. Iraq is a very interesting country to visit, especially because almost no tourists go there. Most people only visit the Irqai-Kurdistan region in the North, but we decided to fly to Baghdad without really having a plan.
We wanted to see the ancient ruins of Babylon, one of history's greatest cities. Though there is not much left of Babylon, a lot of the walls have been rebuilt and the Lion statue of Babylon remains. Al Hilla is the closest city to the ancient site, so I also take you to some local Falafel vendors in Al Hilla.
