Taking the Eurostar from London to Paris (Standard Premier Class) ????????

I begin 2023 by taking the Eurostar from London to Paris, showing what the experience is like in Standard Premier Class. It's also my first visit to France's capital city, despite travelling to the country four times!

After arriving in Paris, I take a sneak peek at the Eiffel Tower, before watching PSG at the Parc des Princes, getting the chance to see Messi play live.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and YouTuber who's been to 60 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.

I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.

After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.

I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.

I've travelled to North America just once as a YouTuber, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.

In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.

I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London.

Eurail/Interrail infos:

If you're booking your journey in advance then buy your tickets directly on thetrainline.com for example.

If you buy the pass and use it to make early reservations (as the eurail advises on their website) the overall cost of the pass+reservations will be more than buying tickets directly, plus, you will be treated as a suspect second class citizen with your reservation marked as Must Show Pass. Another cons to Eurail/Interrail pass when making a reservation is that you have no way to choose your seat. I was always attributed the worst seats when I used it : usually in the 4-block seats facing strangers (often families with children).

If you try to use the pass few days earlier to your journey on high speed trains in Europe, well it says No Seats Available for pass holders. So in all cases the pass isn't worth it neither when booking early nor lately.

My advice is to book the tickets for all your journeys in advance while having a complete control on your attributed seats and saving money.

Eurostar Class 373 TGV TMST (e300) Ride: London St Pancras International to Paris Nord - 21/03/18

Video: Heading out to Paris from London St Pancras International onboard a Eurostar Class 373 TGV TMST (TransManche Super Train) e300, once again it happened to be a refurbished set. Because this journey was to Paris, this route covers the entirety of LGV Nord non-stop, meaning the majority of this journey is at high speed.

This was a refurbished e300 set (3229/3999) operating on service 9032 to Paris Nord which stops at Ashford only. It was interesting by random chance to get the spare power car attached instead of 3230, which was seemingly experiencing faults. Once again, I sat in seat 15 in coach 1 adjacent to the power car.

STATIONS CALLED AT / THE JOURNEY:

START - London St Pancras International + Beginning look at the TGV TMST power car 3229, then the train crew announcement (0:00 - 3:05)

non-stop (HS1 / CTRL: London to Ashford | 3:05 - 31:14)

- Ashford International (31:14 - 33:31)

HS1 / CTRL (33:31 - 42:35)

Channel Tunnel (42:35 - 1:02:47)

non-stop (LGV Nord: Channel Tunnel - Paris | 1:02:47 - 2:14:20)

(End of LGV Nord, joining the Paris - Lille railway for the last leg into Gare du Nord | 2:14:20 - 2:23:57)

END - Paris Gare du Nord | 2:23:57)

Finally an end tour of the refurbished Class 373 Bar-Buffet (called Café Métropole), the new Standard/Business Premier and look at the rear 3999 power car (2:24:39)

Is the London To Paris Train Worth It? | Full Time Travel Family

This Full time travel family answers the question: Is the London to Paris train worth it?

As you can tell, we weren’t happy with the process, so let’s start there with our cons.

We had anticipated that a train station would be less stressful than an airport, but this proved to be wrong. Standing in the line up with all our luggage and our kids for 2 hours wasn’t pleasant. At airports we have the ability to check in online and have generally had an easier time going through security… although they look remarkably the same… and to then be able to sit in a waiting area before we board. This long line up would have been a challenge for anyone who had a hard time standing for long periods of time.
Con #2: The train was more expensive than a flight.
Con #3: Departure time reliability.
Con #4: No wifi.
Con #5: The views weren’t great.

Onto the pros:
Pro #1: More room in the seats.
Pro #2: Walkability while the train moves.
Pro #3: Arrival was pretty easy.

So, would we take the train again? No.

If you want to experience the underground channel tunnel, then we have a few tips to help make it a smoother experience:

Knowing what you’re getting yourself into will help set expectations. Prepare for long line ups and delayed departures and if that doesn’t happen, then it’s a bonus.
Don’t take the train on a Saturday. That was a big mistake on our part. Mid week would likely be much closer to the experience we had hoped for.
Pack food. The food on the train is expensive (much like a flight) and so having your own snacks will save you money.
If you take the train on a weekend, then come 2 hours early so that you can spend more time waiting in the train than in the line up.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Also, dress warmly if the weather is cool/cold.
Go to the bathroom before you line up and have entertainment for the kids in the line up if possible.
Like most transportation experiences, the less luggage the better… and with wheels. We have a link below to the carry-on sized luggage we’ve been using. It’s not pricey and it’s durable.

In the end, it was nice to give our son an experience on a fast train, we just wish we had done it on a different day or perhaps on a train without the need for going through security and customs.

Let us know in the comments below if you think you’ll choose to try the train or take a flight?

Eurostar: London to Paris | Standard Premier | Full Journey

This is our journey on Eurostar in Standard Premier class from London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord in February 2020. The train travels through the channel tunnel underneath the English Channel and connects Britain with Mainland Europe.

Timestamps:
0:00 - Intro
0:11 - Arriving at King's Cross Station
1:39 - Walking from King's Cross to St Pancras International
2:34 - St Pancras International Station
3:52 -St Pancras Shopping area
4:50 - A man playing a Piano
6:16 - Heading for departure area
7:04 - Check-in
7:15 - Eurostar waiting area
8:39 - Heading to the platform
9:30 - Boarding the train
10:29 - Standard Premier Class
10:50 - Complementary food & drinks
12:12 - Walking through the train
13:02 - Arriving at Paris Gare du Nord
14:21 - Gare du Nord, Paris
15:11 - Exiting the station
16:00 - Walking on the streets of Paris in the evening

The train leaves from St Pancras International Station in London, which is right next to King's Cross Station. The station has a large concourse with shops displaying international brands and cafeterias. There is even an M&S foodhall here.
You have to scan your ticket and pass through security check and passport control to reach the waiting area for the Eurostar. There is a separate lounge for business class travellers, but none for standard premier class. There are also a few cafes and a quite decent seating capacity. However, on the day of our journey, many trains were delayed for some reason and as a result the waiting area was very crowded and many people had to sit on the floor during their prolonged wait. Of course, there are toilets and I was able to find a water fountain as well.
There are multiple boarding gates here, so keep an eye on the screens for your train. At the specified time the boarding gate opens, allowing travellers to reach the platform.
The Standard Premier class is spacious and very comfortable and includes free meal and drinks. Wifi did not work in the underground section of the route. The journey took only 2 hours 15 minutes.

Thanks for watching.

DAY TRIP TO PARIS ❤️ London To Paris Tour | Eurostar Train Travel Vlog | KLOOK

Go big! We took a London to Paris day trip tour on the Eurostar train and back in one day and loved it! Using the Klook app we booked...⬇ More Below ⬇

Until a week ago Stace had never even been to France, yet here we are back in London and trying to plan some travel, and Paris comes up. So we thought it's best to go big or go home! We found a site called Klook, spotted a London to Paris day trip tour and prepared for a big day of travel.

The Eurostar train is super easy, but the prices fluctuate and it can get crazy expensive! Fortunately Klook secures a crazy cheap cost, comes with a full day tour of Paris, a local guide, lunch & champagne, reserved seats on the Eurostar AND helps you beat all of the lines at the main attractions like the Eiffel Tower by going into the fast track lanes. We were sold.

Everything went super smooth, Paris is stunning, the Eurostar is so quick and comfortable and we ended up having the most amazing day going from London to Paris in one day. If you're trying to find a day trip to Paris from London, definitely check out this trip —

So is it worth going from London to Paris on one day only? Honestly we feel like yes! Paris has a lot more to offer than a day trip would allow, but if you don't want to waste hours flying, only have a few days available and want to get there easily with a guide or just want to take an incredible travel day as a taster - do it! We loved it.

Klook offers a lot more than day trips, check them out here —

Disclaimer: Ad | This video was sponsored by Klook, so they made this trip to Paris (and this vlog) happen - but as always, our opinions are both genuine and strictly our own.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED
COVID put everyone's lives on hold, especially in a travel sense, so I couldn't wait to finally get back to Paris after 3 YEARS of being away. After hearing about horrendous queues at airports, we decided to get to St Pancras early. Immediately I spotted a queue snaking all the way round the shopping concourse at St Pancras station, unlike anything I'd seen before! We had our breakfast, I bought a book for the trip at WHSmith, and then we went to start queuing. We were told to go outside to wait, being right in the sun wasn't pleasant, but once we got into the building again, we were told our train wasn't meant to start queuing, even though someone else I talked to told us to go outside. Among a huge crowd, my mother and I waited, until eventually queuing for my 12:31 train was announced. The whole thing was terribly organised, and the two or three trains before mine were heavily delayed. The queue was stop-starting like a horrendous traffic jam, until finally we got to the Eurostar check in & security, which was the smoothest part of the whole journey, and normally the part I dread. I bought some sandwiches at the Pret in the waiting lounge for our dinner since all the supermarkets close incredibly early in France (if they're even open at all!), and we waited for our train to board. While presenting our boarding passes to the member of staff checking them, we were told there was an issue with our meal since both my mother and I have dietary requirements. Thankfully this was resolved and we were able (for the most part) to enjoy our journey. Our meals weren't very filling at all, even less so than previous years, since Eurostar meals in Standard Premier always have small portions, but this time felt like they were cutting back on what they had previously given us (which still wasn't that much!). Once we got to Gare du Nord we went to find our taxi. The train had been delayed by five minutes, which, while not ideal, wasn't as bad as other trains that day, and shouldn't bar us from picking up our taxi connection at the other end. Or so we expected, since the taxi didn't turn up, and we then were forced to stand outside in 30+ degrees Celsius for an entire hour waiting for it. After an hour, I finally made the call to just get the metro, since queuing up for a station taxi appeared as though it would take almost an hour itself. Close to getting sunburnt and exasperated by how our travels had been, we just wanted to get to our hotel, which involved traipsing through a busy, stuffy metro, and having to lug suitcases up staircases and around crowds proved to be another frustrating ordeal. We eventually got to our hotel in one piece, and not quite burnt (I did coat myself with suncream, thankfully), but our day had been pretty awful.

Our return journey, curiously, was fine. I spotted a bus from where we were staying that took us up to Gare du Nord so we didn't have to get the Metro, and queuing and getting through security felt like normal.
