Modern production catamarans have been getting bigger and taller, and with extraordinary levels of accommodation. While having all the conveniences of home is awesome, with some newer builds comfort has come at the cost of performance and seakindliness. The question becomes: how much is enough?
The Maine Cat 41 is not a dated design as they are still in production, but it is a design that pursues different goals: namely functionality and performance. This is not a minimalist boat or one for those on a small budget as at 14 years old her value is somewhere in the high $300s, but it is a boat that strips away many ideas of what a cruising catamaran should be. We continue to diagnose the engine overheat problem and finally have it solved. After clearing the raw water strainer, we change the thermostats, soak and flush the coolant system with vinegar. Megan cheats on her boyfriend Goose with a little piglet.

In the 2nd part of our road trip (after the engine of our sailing boat had broken down) we explore the Roman catacombs, visit Vatican City and head to Venice afterwards together with the kids. In Venice we are seriously annoyed by their pricing policy, hmpf. And everything smells like fart all the time. But it's actually a terribly beautiful and enchanting city that is overrun by tourists all the time and has absolutely no reason to try to attract even more visitors.

The Harte Research Institute and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department have been working to monitor the conditions of the bay and ensure a healthy future for the Laguna Madre.
