The best way to explore Egypt in on a Nile River Crusie. The Nile river is a major north-flowing river in northeastern Africa, it's generally regarded as the longest river in the world at 6,853 km long. The Nile is an international river as its water resources are shared by eleven countries, namely, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt. In particular, the Nile is the primary water resource and life artery for Egypt and Sudan.

Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along those parts of the Nile valley north of Aswan, and nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along the riverbanks. The Nile ends in a large delta that empties into the Mediterranean Sea.

NILE CRUISE, EGYPT | 3-Day Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan (Full Guide)

A Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan is one of the best ways to see Egypt’s ancient past. Most Nile cruises in Egypt go between Luxor and Aswan and take between 3 to 5 days total. No matter what cruise you choose, you will have time to relax and take in the scenery of the Nile Valley while enjoying tours to some of Egypt’s most impressive ancient temples and tombs. In this video we’ll go over the different cruise options and what to expect on a 3-day cruise from Luxor to Aswan, including interesting attractions that you can’t miss.

⛵ Nile cruise options:

Generally, there are 3 ways to cruise the Nile River in Egypt:

1. The cheapest and most adventurous way to cruise the Nile is by felucca. A felucca is a very small boat that has no cabins and it sails by the wind. There are usually no facilities on board, such as bathrooms or bedrooms.

2. A dahabiya is another option. This small wooden boat relies on winds and has about 10 cabins. It is the most exclusive and expensive way to cruise the Nile. It’s the perfect choice for anyone who is looking for a more intimate Nile cruise experience

3. Finally, the most popular way to travel the Nile is on one of the big Nile cruiser boats. This is a mid-range option, but boats can differ in price and the range of facilities. Most boats are like a floating hotel, including a sundeck with pool and restaurant.

???? What to expect on a Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan:

Day 1: Luxor
Most Nile cruises start in Luxor, and so did ours. Luxor is also called the world’s greatest open-air museum. This is because the city‘s history goes back thousands of years, which can be observed in its ancient temples and tombs today. We explored the world-famous Karnak temple, the impressive pharaohs' tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the fully-excavated Habu Temple, and so much more. This city is awe-inspiring and we recommend staying at least a few days in this area before boarding the cruise boat if you can.

Day 2: Edfu & Kom Ombo
On the second day, you will arrive in the city of Edfu, located along the West Bank of the Nile River. Edfu is known for the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Egypt. Your visit to this temple will start in the early morning, where you will be picked up by your official guide. Afterwards, the boat will sail towards Kom Ombo, where you will explore another amazing temple in the afternoon. This temple is dedicated to two gods: the local crocodile god Sobek and Horus the Elder.

Day 3: Abu Simbel & Aswan
On the third and final day, you will arrive in Aswan. From here, you usually have the option to go on a day tour to Abu Simbel in the early morning or take your time to check out and stay in Aswan for the whole day or multiple days.

???? Book 3-day Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan (recommended - make sure to spend a day or two exploring Luxor before boarding the ship & a day or two in Aswan after being dropped off!):

???? Book 4-night Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan with Abu Simbel:

Note that you're only sailing for 2 out of 5 days, the rest is spent in Luxor, Aswan & Abu Simbel where you'll visit the historical temples & sights.

EGYPT: Nile Cruise & Ancient Monuments (Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Giza)

Impression of Egypt along the Nile. More detailed videos of the 7-day Nile Cruise:

Egyptian civilization have depended on the river Nile since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along the Nile valley north of Aswan. Silt deposits from the Nile made the surrounding land fertile because the river overflowed its banks annually. The Ancient Egyptians cultivated and traded wheat, flax, papyrus and other crops around the Nile. The Nile was also a convenient and efficient means of transportation for people and goods. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.

The Nile was an important part of ancient Egyptian spiritual life and considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death. Thus, all tombs were west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they had to be buried on the side that symbolized death.

For detailed information about each monument see the description of each individual video:

Except for:

The Colossi of Memnon (51:16) are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Dynasty XVIII. For the past 3,400 years (since 1350 BC), they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapy.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (55;30), known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo-Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. It houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities.
Part of the collection will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum set to open in 2020. It will house Tutankhamun's complete collection of between 4000 and 5000 artefacts, many of which are undergoing restoration and have never been displayed; the vast collection we have viewed at the old museum represents only about a third of the whole. The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on 50 hectares at Giza, two kilometres from the Grand Pyramids. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo will remain open.

No tripod was used, it was not allowed (also there wouldn't be enough time during group excursions).

A videography ticket (EP 300) is needed to film inside the Abu Simbel Temples, Valley of the Kings, and museums.

To take pictures only in museums, a photography ticket is needed (EGP 50).

The cruise was booked via Corendon travel agency in the Netherlands/Holland.

Cruising the Nile River on a 100 Year Old Steamer! | Egypt Trip Luxor to Aswan

The mighty Nile has been the lifeblood of Egypt since the beginning of civilization. Along its fertile banks surrounded by the sands of the desert ancient Egypt prospered. Thousands of years lure visitors in with the remains of breathtaking monuments, a rugged coastline teeming coral life, and a culture that has evolved over millennia. We traveled to this Northern Africa nation to see if the magic still exists.

Egypt is the gift of the Nile so there is no better way to explore than a cruise down the river. It’s tough to find a boat more fitting for a cruise than SS Sudan. It is the only steamship that still sails the Nile and has played host to Agatha Christie and the King of Egypt. The wooden steamer dates back over a century and will transport you back in time to the ancient wonders of Edfu, Dendara, and The Valley of The Kings.

The Steam Ship Sudan still ferries guests back and forth from Luxor to Aswan. It is a magical trip and one of our favorites in years.

We are originally from the USA we left home in 2013 after graduating college. We then returned back to the US a year later to build a normal life. We quickly discovered that it wasn’t for us and left home for good in 2015. We were nomadic for over three years across six continents and 80 countries. It took us 500 blog posts, thousands of nights in different beds, a few horrible meals and a ton of amazing ones until we chose to base ourselves in the Canadian Rockies. Now we travel for half the year and explore the mountains for the other half. We are incredibly grateful for the life we live and hope we can help you meet your travel goals too!

Seven out of ten travellers told me they really want to do a Nile River cruise. But almost all said they were unlikely to do it, because they had too many questions and concerns. Having done one, I have discovered the answers to those questions, and a few they should be asking but aren’t.
