Once we made it through the Costa Rica / Nicaragua Border, we found our driver and started our journey to the historic town of Granada Nicaragua.
Once there we checked into our hotel and then visited one of the best steak houses we have ever tasted! Expat living at it's best.

NICARAGUA - COSTA RICA BORDER RUN | How to renew your Nicaragua tourist visa | Penas Blancas Border
Follow us as we complete our NICARAGUA - COSTA RICA BORDER RUN at the Penas Blancas border crossing. If you want to visit or live in Nicaragua or Costa Rica (as a non-resident) for more than 90 days you need to do a border run to renew your tourist VISA. If your travelling between NICARAGUA & COSTA RICA at the Penas Blancas border watch this video before you go. We do have our Canadian plated vehicle in Nicaragua so in this video we also show you the step if your driving a vehicle, like how to cancel and renew your TIP (Temporary Import Permit). Nicaragua is know for being a very tough border crossing, expect it to be slow and be prepared for some BS and/or some extra fees. We have done this border crossing several times...there is always something different.
We are car camping/overlanding in our ROOF TOP TENT through Central America. We drove all the way from Canada to Nicaragua with our 2 bulldogs Tigger & Penelope to our new home in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua. We loved it so much that we are back on the road!!! We are spending 6 months exploring COSTA RICA, join the ADVENTURE!

Renewing a Tourist Visa Costa Rica / Nicaragua | Living in Costa Rica
Hey guys! I imagine you are here to see the experience of my border run. I made this video because I personally couldn't find one like this, that shows exactly how it works, so my hopes are to show you exactly what I experienced, and share the information I have gathered to do this visa renewal. This was at the Peñas Blancas border, so any other one may be different.
What you need to enter Nicaragua:
Fill out the Formulario ahead of time:
Have your proof of Vaccination OR negative PCR results
Passport of course
In USD $1, $13, $1, $3. ( always bring extra just in case, and don't assume they will have change, I may have been lucky)
Note: BEFORE entering the entrance side of Nicaragua, a few steps before the front doors, there is a part of the building with large windows, go there and show them your Covid Docs, they will give you a ticket, otherwise migration will send you back to get it.
Don't be nervous, and be HONEST! There is no legal obligation to be inside or outside of either country for any amount of time.

We are a full service travel agency with tons of info Here it is guys, the new border crossing from Los Chiles to San Carlos- by LAND. Before, you had to take a boat. Well not anymore. We expect some things to change with this crossing since it's fairly new but this is the basics of this crossing and it is the easiest crossing in Costa Rica, especially for perpetual tourist types.

We took a day and went to the new border crossing from Costa Rica to Nicaragua. For this border crossing we went to the town of Los Chilies costarica and then to the town of San Carlos Nicaragua. We paid our exit taxes and went through immigration in both countries. Fun day of culture and food. :)

Costa Rica to Nicaragua Visa Run | Peñas Blancas, Guanacaste, Costa Rica
About Episode 008:
In this episode we make a quick trip to Penas Blancas on the Nicaragua border (“Frontier” Penas Blancas) to renew our tourist Visas and extend our stay in Costa Rica an additional 90-days. Although the trip requires some meticulous coordination and planning, it is a great solution for tourists not meeting the criteria to apply for residency. Thanks to Tamarindo Transfers and Tours and the seasoned travelers on board, we were able to successfully navigate the border and renew our visas to reenter Costa Rica. Come along as we travel from Montezuma up to Guanacaste where we took our COVID tests and boarded the shuttle before navigating through the border.
Required Documentation:
1. Negative COVID PCR Test (within 72 hours of border crossing)
2. Health Pass / Pase de Salud
3. Passport
4. Confirmation of Return Flight to US within 90-days
**Although some passengers showed these documents via cell phone, we found it easier to print them out since we had to hand over documents for our entire family, to officials, on several occasions.
Border Crossing Step-byStep Procedure as of 06/06/2021:
1. Pay Costa Rica Exit Tax (Keep Receipt)
2. Costa Rica COVID Test Verification + Passport
3. Costa Rica Passport Check Kiosk
4. Nicaragua COVID Test Pre-Verification Kiosk
5. Nicaragua COVID Test Validation + Ticket Validation
6. Nicaragua Immigration Screening - Passport + Border Fee ($2 US per person) + Entry Tax ($13 US per person)
7. Nicaragua Entry Screening + Exit Tax ($3 US per person)
8. Nicaragua Luggage X-Ray
9. Costa Rica Passport Pre-check Kiosk
10. Costa Rica Immigration Screening - Passport + Health Pass + Return Ticket verifying exit from Costa Rica within 90 days
11. Costa Rica Luggage X-Ray
Total cost = $18 US per person (Tamarindo Tours & Transfers included the $8 US exit tax per person in our $45 US cost per person) We recommend bringing small US dollar bills for easy payments.

We broke down all the information you need to know whether you are flying into Managua, Nicaragua or Liberia, Costa Rica and crossing by land.
As of now, to enter Nicaragua you need a PCR-RT Covid Test. Your test must be within 72 hours of ARRIVAL into Nicaragua. If you are flying into Managua, your test will need to be sent to your airline 36 hours before departure. Do your research, depending on where you are flying from this can be difficult to time out.
