MAURITANIA: Breakdown in the middle of the desert! Terjit Oasis and Chinguetti // EPS. 3

The rough ride through Mauritania: Breakdown in the middle of the desert, a trip to an ancient town that gets burried by the dunes, and new friends who helped us solve our problems.
We started off in the mauritanian city Nouadhibou, where we learned how to adapt to local customs. After a short stay in Mauritanias capital Nouakchott we started our journey inlands – hundreds of kilometers in the burning heat with 40 degrees celsius plus. When doing a little excursion to the oasis Terjit we got stuck in deep sand – and my travel partner burnt the clutch of his Africa Twin motorcycle. With the help of the whole village we were able to get to a local guesthouse – but the Africa Twin would not start anymore. While looking for a solution I did excursions to the city Atar and the ancient town Chinguetti, which once was one of the most important cities of Islam. How we solved the problem with the motorcycle? Watch the whole episode to find out if we were ever able to leave the oasis of Terjit!

WESTERN SAHARA to MAURITANIA: from Dakhla to the most dangerous border of the world // EPS.2

Three months after we drove the motorcycles to Dakhla, we continued our journey in the desert of Morocco/Western Sahara. We had heard many nightmare stories about the border of Mauritania ahead (it was supposed to be the most dangerous border in the world with a lawless No Man's land with landmines and small sandy tracks). But our first obstacle when returning to Dakhla was to find a motorcycle garage for changing the tires of our bikes before we could enjoy the oasis of Dakhla for Kitesurfing. A little break before we really started our adventure ride south through the desert on the westcoast of Africa. On the way through Morocco/ Western Sahara we came across many checkpoints, beautiful dunes and amazing landscapes before we finally hit the border of Mauritania...

// Check out my friends from Dakhla Wind Paradise if you plan to visit Dakhla for desert excursions or kitesurfing.

LIBERIA: The HIGHEST MOUNTAINS of West Africa! Nimba Mountain motorcycle expedition // Eps 13

Three countries meet on top of a mountain - one of the highest located places in all of west africa. This journey will not only bring us to an interesting junction - but will take us to the heart of westafrica. Join the motorcycle expedition from the mining town Yekepa in Liberia to the top of Nimba mountain, where Liberia, Guinea and Cote D’Ivoire meet.

The area around Yekepa is highly used for mining and more or less owned by an indian steel company - including gated roads. There is only one hotel to stay as a foreigner and the only place to find food is the canteen of the workers of the mines.

To be able to ride to the top of Mount Nimba, we asked advice of the rangers of Nimba Nature Reserve who showed us the way up the small and steep trails. Follow our motorcycle expedition to the highest mountain range of west africa - and join our ride to a breathtaking blue lake and abandonned steel factory.

THE BALTIC SEA: A motorcycle ride from Switzerland to ECKERNFÖRDE // EPS. 1 EXPEDITION NORTH

The beginning of a new journey: Instead of continuing my journey in the west of Africa as planned, my travel partner and I decided to go North instead of South, Nordkapp instead of Capetown. But before we could take off we had to face several challenges: a lost passport, a long quarantine in Switzerland and borders that just opened 5 days before we took off.
But we finally made it: In this first episode of my Expedition North we rode from Switzerland to Germany, from Frankfurt to Hamburg and the German Sea. And we visited a very speical place: The coastal town Eckernförde where my father was born. Join me on my new journey!

SENEGAL: Riding under Baobab Trees & the secret salt pools of Palmarin // EPS 5.

Departure from Dakar, riding under Baobab Trees and the secret salt pools of Palmarin - join the second part of the journey through Senegal.

After the clutch discs finally arrived in Dakar we gave our motorcycles a service (thank you, CFAO Dakar for taking care about the Fox). After two weeks of waiting we were finally ready to leave Dakar! And we were on a mission: we were looking for the most beautiful Baobab Trees of the country and the some salt pools that I had seen pictures of online - but actually had no clue about where they really are. Join the journey and find out if we succeded!

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!

BALESTRAND: Traveling to Gulen, Sognefjord and Norways most artistic town // EPS. 3 EXPEDITION NORTH

When clouds cover the most beautiful rugged mountains above endless Fjords - it’s time to find the roads off the beaten path - and learn about Norways history. Welcome to the traditional district of Sogn.

After leaving Bergen in the rain (of course), we drove over the island Radøy on some small roads before we visited the historical municipality Gulen. Gulenfjord is a smaller and less known Fjord in Norway . The ride took us further to Sognefjord - which is the biggest Fjord in Norway and after finally finding a ferry we went along the Fjord on a very fun road from Larvik to the village Balestrand.

Balestrand is one of the most artstic towns in Norway and famous for it's architecture with it's dragon houses (like Saint Olaf's church) and for the Kviknes Hotel. Find out why I was able to sit on a german emperors chair - and join me on a little history tour through Norway.

REACHING AFRICA: From Germany to Morocco. Europes best roads // EPS 1

Who wants to go around Africa, first has to get to Africa. Before the big West Africa adventure could start, I had to ride from Europe/Germany to Morocco. The late delivery of my new motorcycle, a Yamaha Tenere 700, delayed my trip for weeks – so I had only two weeks left to ride from Munich in Germany to Dakhla in Morocoo/Western Sahara crossind Switzerland, Italy, France, Andorra, Spain and Morocco. More than 5000 Kilometers within 14 days. In this episode I will introduce my travel partner – and some of the most scenic offroad routes in Europe, such as: Strada dell'Assietta, Colle du Parpaillon, the old smuggler roads to Andorra from Tor close to the Pyrenees and part of the TET (Trans European Trail) in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range in Spain. In Morocco we visited Casablanca, Essaouira, Sidi Ifni and ended this transport ride in Dakhla. Join the journey to West Africa!

SIERRA LEONE / TIWAI ISLAND: Fearing for my life on a boat ride at Tiwai Island! // EPS 11

If you go through the world with open eyes and an open mind, there can be an adventure waiting behind every corner. And my biggest adventure was waiting for me in Sierra Leone. We just wanted to do a relaxed boat ride at the wildlife sanctuary Tiwai island - and it turned out as the most adventurous trip we have done on this whole journey.

From the city Bo we traveled through many small villages to our destination Tiwai Island. Tiwai is a wildlife sanctuary that is surrounded by Moa river. When we reached the community based campground the locals offered to take us on a boat ride down the river to see more of the wilderness of the beautiful jungle of Tiwai - little did we know, that our boat would be a tree trunk made out of a Kapok tree, that the paddle would break down and that we would get stuck in several rapids when the sun started to disappear slowly...

GUINEA CONAKRY: Crashs in the FOUTA DJALLON region & Kambadaga waterfalls // EPS. 8

Crashs, waterfalls, and challenging roads: Welcome to the Fouta Djallon region in Guinea - one of my favorite places on this trip so far!

Each country I ever visited I fell in love with – even if it was only for a short minute. But Guinea-Conakry made me fall in love each single second I stayed. Why? Because of its challenges. But also because of its breathtaking beauty, and its untouched nature.

After crossing the border of Guinea-Bissau to Guinea-Conakry at the border post Fulamory, there was already the first surprise waiting: a hand-pulled ferry that brought us over the river. Little did we know that the real challenges were still waiting: A very bad, sandy road - which ended up in two crashs.

The next days we headed torwards Labé, the capital of the region Fouta Djallon. The highlands of Fouta Djallon are often called the watertower - or in French: 'le chateau d'eau' , of West Africa. Sometimes people as well refer to the region as the 'Switzerland of West Africa'. We found out why on a excursion to Kambadaga waterfalls.
Join the journey in through the Fouta Djallon region of Guinea and find out, how it feels to ride in 40+ degrees, on sandy roads or when standing on a majestic waterfall!

SIERRA LEONE: Black market money! From golden beaches on the Freetown Penninsula to Bo // EPS 10

Why are there places on earth, you only hear negative things about? Like Sierra Leone - the only references to this country in the media are often about blood diamonds, civil wars and ebola. But Sierra Leone, that’s as well gentle waves at golden beaches with cristal clear water, friendly locals and a lush green jungle. Visit the most beautiful beaches of west africa with me and join the journey through Sierra Leone, the Freetown Penninsula and the city Bo.

After crossing the border from Guinea to Sierra Leone we were on a mission: to find the most beautiful beach of Sierra Leone. Little spoiler: there are a lot of beautfiul ones on the Freetown Penninsula, but our vote goes not to the famous River Number 2 Beach, but to Bureh Beach, where we stayed for a while. Sipping cocktails, eating lobster or go surfing - Bureh is a relaxed paradise far away from commercialisation or mass tourism.

After we recharged our batteries at the beautiful beaches of Sierra Leone, we were heading inlands to the city Bo. Watch this episode to find out why changing money or buying food and vegetables can be quite a challenge when being on the road!

Eight bridges, several islands, one road: From Stofjord and the city Ålesund to Norway's famous Atlantic Ocean Road: The Atlanterhavsveien.

Because of riding in the pouring rain for six days straight, we decided to rest for a day and stay in one of Norway's most beautiful Hotels: Storfjord Hotel with a beautiful view on the Fjord and the Sunnmøre Alps. From Storfjord we visited the city Ålesund, which is one of Norway's most beautiful towns.

SENEGAL: From SAINT-LOUIS to DAKAR. Stuck again + 6 top things to do in Dakar // EPS 4.

After crossing into Senegal we visited the vibrant fishing town Saint-Louis and famous Zebra Bar, which is a campsite most overland travelers visit when traveling west africa. On the way to Dakar we realized, that the clutch of my travel partner we repaired in Mauretania was still broken – so we prepared for a long stay in Senegals capital Dakar to send clutch discs from Europe.

Meanwhile we went on a burocratic journey through town to stamp our carnet de passage (customs document), apply for visas and explore the highlights of Dakar.

Join me for a tour through the city with my top things to do:
1. Visit the village des arts and buy some art
2. Eat at famous restaurant Lagon Nr. 1
3. Go surf at Dakar's beaches
4. Shop traditional waxed cotton fabric at Marché HLM and get some clothes made
5. Visit Gorée Island ( Île de Gorée ) and learn about it's history in the transatlantic slave trade
6. Shop at local food markets like Marché Kermel

GUINEA CONAKRY: A ride through the country to it's capital // EPS 9

A ride through Guinea to it's capital Conakry - with offroad excursions, friendly locals and some adventurous transports!

Saying goodbye to places you fell in love with is the worst part of traveling. But every day offers aw well a new beginning, a new journey, a new adventure. Follow me from the grasslands of Fouta Djallon to Guineas capital Conakry and the border of Sierra Leone.

When we left Labé and the Fouta Djallon region we realized, that even finding an ATM can be quite an adventure in Guinea. After we were able to pay our petrol again we hit some small roads, met friendly locals and went on a night ride to Guinea's capital Conakry to apply for another visa.

THE GAMBIA: A country of ferries, rivers and mangroves // EPS. 6

From Senegal we drove to the Gambia - the smallest country on Africa's mainland that is dominated by the Gambia river. We took the slowest ferry ever, made new friends at the border (I included a little guide on how to cross borsers in Westafrica ;) ) and went on another ferry from the town Barra to Gambiad capital Banjul. On the way we stopped several times to soak in the atmosphere and fly the drone above the beautiful mangrove forest.

What is Mauritania really like? | Nouakchott the country born of sand & wind

Mauritania, officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is a sovereign country in Northwest Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara to the north and northwest, Algeria to the northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, and Senegal to the southwest. Nouakchott is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahel. The city also serves as the administrative and economic center of Mauritania. Nouakchott was a mid-sized village of little importance until 1958 when it was chosen as the capital of the nascent nation of Mauritania.
