we've released a lot of turtles stuck in nets, never a HUMPBACK WHALE! 25 miles off shore Capt. David Salazar, aboard The Hooker, spotted this whale and the crew and florida based anglers leaped into action successfully releasing the whale in 15 mins!

Catching a sailfish is a feat many anglers dream of. For me - I could care less about catching it - but swimming with it was a dream. The day prior, Niels Erikson, owner of Pacific Fins, and I dove in with a sail that kinda freaked out when we swam up to him with our cameras. That fish found a burst of energy, leaped out of the water and it's side landed on my head! If another part of his body got me I might not be typing this right now. This sail, however, was much more docile and allowed us to glide through the water next to him. And, at 20 miles off the Guatemala Coast the clear water lends to great photography.

Ali and Rush head to Merritt Island, the sleepy space coast town where Ali was first introduced to fishing in the Florida. Hoping to partake in a specialized fishery termed “fishing the other side,” the guys will need calm weather, a serious boat, and a capable crew if they are going to have a shot at the yellowfin tuna that cruise the edge of the gulf stream current 100 plus miles off the coast.

Race to Casa Vieja Lodge- Dec 2016
Just before the holidays, we whisked away our Race to Guatemala winner, Cole Coscino to Casa Vieja Lodge for some epic offshore sailfish action. Each year for the last five years, BD Outdoors has run its most popular contest, The Race To Somewhere. We take the winner of our random online drawing to experience a bucket-list fishing trip; all expenses paid. The Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala definitely lived up to their reputation. The fishing grounds were epic and we raised and caught more sailfish than we thought possible. After long days of fishing, the five-star hospitality really topped off the trip as we enjoyed tasty cuisine, and luxury accommodations.

Got into some nice sail fish at Casa Vieja. If you ever get the chance, this is a great experience. Once you get the system down, it is a great afternoon seeing upwards of 40 sail fish a day, then casting at 20 or so, landing up to 10. We used TFO 10 wt baby blue water rods
