EGYPT: Nile Cruise & Ancient Monuments (Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Giza)

Impression of Egypt along the Nile. More detailed videos of the 7-day Nile Cruise:

Egyptian civilization have depended on the river Nile since ancient times. Most of the population and cities of Egypt lie along the Nile valley north of Aswan. Silt deposits from the Nile made the surrounding land fertile because the river overflowed its banks annually. The Ancient Egyptians cultivated and traded wheat, flax, papyrus and other crops around the Nile. The Nile was also a convenient and efficient means of transportation for people and goods. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of Ancient Egypt are found along river banks.

The Nile was an important part of ancient Egyptian spiritual life and considered to be a causeway from life to death and the afterlife. The east was thought of as a place of birth and growth, and the west was considered the place of death. Thus, all tombs were west of the Nile, because the Egyptians believed that in order to enter the afterlife, they had to be buried on the side that symbolized death.

For detailed information about each monument see the description of each individual video:

Except for:

The Colossi of Memnon (51:16) are two massive stone statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III, who reigned in Egypt during the Dynasty XVIII. For the past 3,400 years (since 1350 BC), they have stood in the Theban Necropolis, located west of the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. Two shorter figures are carved into the front throne alongside his legs: these are his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The side panels depict the Nile god Hapy.

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (55;30), known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, in Cairo-Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. It houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities.
Part of the collection will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum set to open in 2020. It will house Tutankhamun's complete collection of between 4000 and 5000 artefacts, many of which are undergoing restoration and have never been displayed; the vast collection we have viewed at the old museum represents only about a third of the whole. The Grand Egyptian Museum is located on 50 hectares at Giza, two kilometres from the Grand Pyramids. The Egyptian Museum in Cairo will remain open.

No tripod was used, it was not allowed (also there wouldn't be enough time during group excursions).

A videography ticket (EP 300) is needed to film inside the Abu Simbel Temples, Valley of the Kings, and museums.

To take pictures only in museums, a photography ticket is needed (EGP 50).

The cruise was booked via Corendon travel agency in the Netherlands/Holland.

NILE CRUISE, EGYPT | 3-Day Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan (Full Guide)

A Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan is one of the best ways to see Egypt’s ancient past. Most Nile cruises in Egypt go between Luxor and Aswan and take between 3 to 5 days total. No matter what cruise you choose, you will have time to relax and take in the scenery of the Nile Valley while enjoying tours to some of Egypt’s most impressive ancient temples and tombs. In this video we’ll go over the different cruise options and what to expect on a 3-day cruise from Luxor to Aswan, including interesting attractions that you can’t miss.

⛵ Nile cruise options:

Generally, there are 3 ways to cruise the Nile River in Egypt:

1. The cheapest and most adventurous way to cruise the Nile is by felucca. A felucca is a very small boat that has no cabins and it sails by the wind. There are usually no facilities on board, such as bathrooms or bedrooms.

2. A dahabiya is another option. This small wooden boat relies on winds and has about 10 cabins. It is the most exclusive and expensive way to cruise the Nile. It’s the perfect choice for anyone who is looking for a more intimate Nile cruise experience

3. Finally, the most popular way to travel the Nile is on one of the big Nile cruiser boats. This is a mid-range option, but boats can differ in price and the range of facilities. Most boats are like a floating hotel, including a sundeck with pool and restaurant.

???? What to expect on a Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan:

Day 1: Luxor
Most Nile cruises start in Luxor, and so did ours. Luxor is also called the world’s greatest open-air museum. This is because the city‘s history goes back thousands of years, which can be observed in its ancient temples and tombs today. We explored the world-famous Karnak temple, the impressive pharaohs' tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the fully-excavated Habu Temple, and so much more. This city is awe-inspiring and we recommend staying at least a few days in this area before boarding the cruise boat if you can.

Day 2: Edfu & Kom Ombo
On the second day, you will arrive in the city of Edfu, located along the West Bank of the Nile River. Edfu is known for the Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Egypt. Your visit to this temple will start in the early morning, where you will be picked up by your official guide. Afterwards, the boat will sail towards Kom Ombo, where you will explore another amazing temple in the afternoon. This temple is dedicated to two gods: the local crocodile god Sobek and Horus the Elder.

Day 3: Abu Simbel & Aswan
On the third and final day, you will arrive in Aswan. From here, you usually have the option to go on a day tour to Abu Simbel in the early morning or take your time to check out and stay in Aswan for the whole day or multiple days.

???? Book 3-day Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan (recommended - make sure to spend a day or two exploring Luxor before boarding the ship & a day or two in Aswan after being dropped off!):

???? Book 4-night Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan with Abu Simbel:

Note that you're only sailing for 2 out of 5 days, the rest is spent in Luxor, Aswan & Abu Simbel where you'll visit the historical temples & sights.

Seven out of ten travellers told me they really want to do a Nile River cruise. But almost all said they were unlikely to do it, because they had too many questions and concerns. Having done one, I have discovered the answers to those questions, and a few they should be asking but aren’t.

Aswan, Egypt - After taking the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan, it was time to begin our Nile River Cruise from Aswan to Luxor.

Before we even got to see the cruise ship, from the Aswan Train Station, we met our Aswan guide for the day and immediately boarded a small boat en route to the Philae Temple.

The pyramids of Giza are incredible structures, but this is something completely different. The Philae Temple complex is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, the mother of all gods, goddess of the sky, moon, healing, and magic among other spiritual powers.

It served as a protective boundary and barracks for Egyptian Pharaohs, and then also for the Greeks and Romans during each of their respective time controlling this region. Which is why you can see Monuments of varies eras extending from the Pharaohs to the Caesars. Including an amazing structure called Trajan’s Kiosk, the unfinished monument dedicated to the Roman Emperor, Trajan.

From the Philae Temple, we made our way back down the Nile River past Aswan. The city of Aswan was a frontier town of Ancient Egypt, even mentioned in the bible under its original name.

Aswan was a trade center, serving as the gateway to Sudan and Ethiopia. Occupied by the Persians, then the Greeks and then the Romans, I mean, we’re traversing up one of the most important waterways in the history of the world, it’s just crazy to wrap my head around.

To this day, one indigenous group still calls this place home - the Nubians.

The Nubian People are an ethnic group who are indigenous to Nubia or the modern day region of northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Nubians originate from the early inhabitants of the central Nile Valley, and they speak their own Nubian languages, as well as Arabic and some English.

While this is considered a traditional Nubian village, I highly doubt their ancestors sold so many plastic camels. However, they are a trading people, and for today’s Nubians here, they’re trading handmade trinkets and souvenirs for foreigner cash. They’re survivalists.

Now, I still can’t figure out if this place is showcasing Nubian culture or exploiting it, but, I would have loved to stay here longer to see beyond the colorful exteriors.

From here, we head back to Aswan in time for sunset and to check into our Nile River Cruise.

The next morning, we take a three hour drive south, to Abu Simbel, the grand temples of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II.

Ramesses built Abu Simbel to impress upon the people in this region of Egypt’s great power and control as this area was an important source of gold and other precious trade goods.

Perhaps the most incredible aspect of this site is that fact that in 1968, the entire complex was moved to this artificial hill, piece by piece, exactly how it was found from it’s original resting place to avoid being flooded by the creation of a man-made lake.

From here, we head back to our Nile River Cruise parked in Aswan to continue our cruise north to Luxor.

I hope you enjoyed this Egypt Travel Vlog from Aswan, Egypt as much as we did making it! ❤️ If so, please hit that ???? button, and leave a comment!

River Nile Cruise Visiting Ancient Egypt Vlog and Tour ????????

#rivernile #egypt #cruise

In 2018, My friend and I organised a trip to Egypt. A land of wonders. We had both wanted to tick off seeing the pyramids off our bucket lists

We wanted to see other cities around Egypt. We had done extensive research on ways to travel and initially the plan was to catch the famous sleeper train from Cairo to Luxor, we also wanted to see the famous port city of Alexandria in the north

After extensive research I had come across options of taking up a luxury Nile cruise. This option was intriguing for several reasons. Firstly our accommodation would be taken care of. Secondly we would be visiting several cities on route. Thirdly we will be seeing many of the famous ancient Egyptian sites in the south of Egypt. Food was also provided in a buffet format. Lastly the price of the 5* cruise is a fraction of what this would have cost

There are several companies who operate cruise ships along the River Nile and depart from several cities such as Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. They all have different itineraries’ for different lengths of time.  There were very few that fitted in between the dates we had booked our flights as some started before our arrival date/time and others would overlap our departure. The one I had opted for was one operated by Memphis Tours who are one of the largest tour companies in Egypt and longest serving. They have branches all over the country and are well organised

When we arrived in the early hours of the morning we were collected at the airport by Memphis Tours at Aswan airport and taken in an air conditioned van to the cruise ship. We met up with the group

After lunch we had set off to see various sites in Aswan including the High Dam which slows the flow of water between Sudan and Egypt. We visited was the Temple of Philae. It was a really interesting site as we had to travel by a small boat to the island where the site is located. This site isn’t the original location of this temple but had been relocated due to the risks of flooding following the construction of the Dam in 1902.  In the evening we preferred to go explore the city. We were constantly asked to go on a horse and carriage ride from some of the local charmers

Our 2nd day the first stop we made was Kom Ombo where there was mummified Crocodiles. We continued to sail upstream to Edfu. The Edfu Temple was astounding. We went back to the cruise ship where we enjoyed our buffet dinner whilst talking to other passengers

We arrived at the famous city of Luxor. We continued to the Valley of Kings where there are several tombs of Pharaohs. The next site which was my favourite site which was the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut which was breath-taking. In the evening we were taken to the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple. We decided to explore the City of Luxor and encountered some interesting people. We got to meet some Egyptian Christians who were very hospitable and very nice. We enjoyed some great conversations

The Next morning we left the ship and travelled to Luxor Airport to travel to Cairo. We were met by a friend whom I met the year before in Saudi Arabia for the Muslim Pilgrimage of Hajj. Khaled took us back to his village
In the morning we went to the World famous Al Azhar University which was founded over 1000 years ago. We continued on to the Khan Khalili market. In the night Khaled organised a 5 a side football match with the locals. 8 of us travelled in and on a car through the village and to our surprise the facilities were outstanding

The next day we visit the Museum and saw lots of artefacts then ascend Cairo Tower. After this to visit the first Masjid constructed in Egypt which was south of Cairo called Amr ibn AL-Aas Masjid. We want later went to Giza as we really wanted to visit the Pyramids before our departure

In the morning made our way to the Pyramid site. It was amazing. The size of each stone was incomprehensible. We decided to take a Horse ride was extremely cheap. It was a pleasurable way to see the Pyramids and well worth the money

This video was shot on my Smartphone and was intended to act as a memory of my trip. I decided to edit it together to show my friends and family who all loved it. This is what led me to invest in a camera and document my travels better. This is what gave birth to my YouTube Channel
