Dubrovnik Islands Getaway - Sipan Croatia and the Enchanting Villa Ella | 98 Countries with 3 Kids

Join us as we visit the island of Šipan near Dubrovnik, Croatia!

Šipan is one of the largest Croatian islands in the Elafiti (Elaphiti) archipelago group. It is also known as 'Dubrovnik's islands' and situated just off the coast of Dubrovnik. The main port of the island is Sudurad which is connected by road to Sipanska luka, a larger town about 5km away. In between there is a verdant valley composed of olive and fig trees, vineyards, pomegranates and citrus groves. Sipan is also famous for its wine and is very picturesque with a cool atmosphere.

Our first stop in Dubrovnik was Šipan. It’s only an hour by ferry and was a perfect place for rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We stayed at the beautiful Villa Ella, a fully stocked home with an amazing view of the Adriatic Sea. Surrounded by luscious gardens we spent our days hanging by the pool, catching up on school and enjoying meals on the terrace with epic sunsets. Just minutes away in the village of Šipanska luka we were able to find all the groceries and supplies we needed without having to leave the island. Simply amazing! We can't wait to return again one day.

Enjoy the video and let us know if you have been to Croatia as well.

Why Visit Dubrovnik Croatia? Discover the Pearl of the Adriatic Sea | 98+ Countries with 3 Kids

Join us as we visit Dubrovnik Croatia - a medieval walled city on the Adriatic Sea.

Known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is home to a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of the most prominent tourist resorts of the Mediterranean. This beautiful city offers stunning architecture and boasts spectacular churches, monasteries, museums and fountains.

Dubrovnik is famous for its magnificent 13th-century city walls and the Old Town. Strolling along the limestone-paved Stradun is a truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The city was the rival of Venice at one time.

It is also the place where scenes from Star Wars VIII was filmed and houses the famous Lovrijenac Fortress, which is the setting for Kings Landing in the popular Game Of Thrones TV series! This medieval town is so beautiful and scenic that movies and TV shows often select it as their shooting location.

Dubrovnik offers cable car rides for an awe-inspiring aerial view over the city and the Adriatic Coast. We took a ride to the top and enjoyed the most amazing views!

We also visited the Red History Museum which highlights life during the communist era. They have a free app you can download to scan exhibits and learn more about them.

During our visit we stayed at the beautiful Villa Ella on the nearby island of Šipan. It is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

We had an amazing time in Dubrovnik and can't wait to discover more of this beautiful country.

Split Croatia ???????? Visitors Guide - Travel Back in Time! - 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us as we visit Split - the largest city on the Adriatic coast that’s forgotten by time!

Split is Croatia's second-largest city, and has some fantastic Roman and modern sights. Located between mountains and the sea, it is home to the famous Diocletian’s Palace - a World Heritage Site. It was the summer home of the Roman emperor Diocletian who started building it around 293 AD. This massive walled palace now houses magnificent Roman ruins, medieval churches, trendy shops, stylish bars, brand-name boutiques, and more.

Near the Diocletian's palace, a serene promenade called Riva offers the perfect Mediterranean atmosphere for romantic walks and socializing. It is also a great place for relaxing, having an ice cream and watching the boats sail by on route to the nearby Dalmatian islands.

Split also has a plethora of other outdoor activities to offer. The three peaks of the Marjan hill offer an unforgettable view of the city and the Marjan forest park offers fantastic family-friendly outdoor activities. It’s car-free paths are perfect for a bike ride or taking a stroll.

We loved our time in Split and look forward to our next visit.

ŠIPAN AND KOLOČEP ISLANDS / WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY WITH ITS BEAUTIFUL ASTONISHING SANDY BEACHES

ŠIPAN AND KOLOČEP ISLANDS / WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY WITH ITS BEAUTIFUL ASTONISHING SANDY BEACHES / DUBROVNIK / CROATIA
In the close vicinity of Dubrovnik, on the coast of Sipan the largest island of the famous Dubrovnik Elafit archipelago, its place under the sun took up Sudurad, one of the two inhabited places on this island. Sudurad has a ferry port which can a dock car ferry. Island Sipan is separated by the Kolocep canal from the coast and is surrounded by several smaller islands. It is well known for its many little bays, clear sea and a variety of fish species in the waters. Most of the island consists of a fertile field, Sipansko field, where olives, grapes and figs are cultivated. The entire island consists of approximately thirty churches which were built in the middle ages, however most of them were turned into ruins. In Surudaj, in the close vicinity of the port there is a Renaissance castle of the family Stjepovic-Skocibuha. There is also a tower Pakljena from 1529 and the church of the Holly Spirit with a flat roof, the largest of its kind on the Adriatic sea.

Island Šipan - The Koločep channel separates otok Šipan from the mainland. The island is surrounded by several smaller islands and is known for its many bays, clear water and plentiful variety of fish in its sea waters. Most of the island is covered by the Šipan field which is made up of olive groves, vineyards and fig trees. About thirty churches can be found on the whole island, however most of them have turned to ruins as they were built in the Middle Ages. In Suđurađ, near the main port, is located a Renaissance castle belonging to the family Stjepović-Skočibuha. Nearby is the Pakljena tower from the year 1529 and the church of the St. Spirit with a flat roof, the largest of this type on the Adriatic coast.
Kolocep is a small island in the Adriatic Sea which belongs to the Elaphite group of islands. It takes only 25min by a regular ferry line from Dubrovnik. The island covers a surface of 2,35 km2 and is built from limestone and dolomite. The island is known for its pleasant Mediterranean climate with mild winters and pleasant summers, as well as for its natural beauties. There are two settlements on the island of Kolocep which are connected by a paved road wide enough for pedestrians, but not for cars: Donje and Gornje Celo. The economy of the island is mostly based on tourism, then on olive growing, viticulture and fishing. Today, the island of Kolocep is one of the more attractive destinations in the region, which will take your breath away with its beautiful sandy beaches, astonishing forests and small traditional villages. There are no cars on the island, which is ideal for people who wish to spend their vacation away from the noise and crowds and transforms the island into a little heaven, a small oasis of peace and quiet. Do not be mistaken in thinking that you will have nothing to do on Kolocep. It offers numerous activities in which anyone can take part. Explore the beauties of the underwater in a diving tour, go kayaking around the island in the early morning hours or discover the Napoleon fort. A private taxi boat drives the tourists around the island of Kolocep and other Elaphite islands, offering you the chance of exploring one of the most beautiful group of islands on the Adriatic. For those in search of fun and entertainment in the evening hours, the concerts organized in Villa Kolocep are a wonderful choice. The entertainment includes jazz bands, brass bands, folk music groups, a Capella Dalmatian singers, as well as step and jazz dancers. The island of Kolocep holds numerous historical sites such as sacred objects and summer mansions. The island can be reached from Dubrovnik by a ship named Postira; the drive takes about 40 minutes. During the summer season, the ship sails 4 times a day, except for Sundays and holidays when it sails 2 times a day. The price of the ticket is 19 kunas – 2,5€.
Koločep is a picturesque Adriatic island in the Elafiti near Dubrovnik, also called Kalamota by the locals. Its surface area is 2.35 km2 and it is only 5km away from Dubrovnik’s Gruž port which offers about a dozen daily connections. The island has two towns, Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo, located in the largest bays and connected by a 3km long swerving promenade. The East and West parts of the island are covered in thick pine tree forest which descends all the way to the surface of the sea. It is one of the most interesting islands in the Adriatic with numerous hidden coves, as well as the Blue Cave inside which you can swim. The clear sea is full of fish and seashells. Unlike the majority of Adriatic islands, Koločep has an abundance of rich soil and water, as well as diverse plants and tall trees. The first sight of the island can leave you breathless, as it fills you with peace, the smell of Mediterranean plants and the intense color of the Adriatic.

Vis Croatia ???????? Adriatic Island Paradise & Mamma Mia Filming Location | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us as we visit Vis - one of the best-preserved islands in the Adriatic!

Vis is a Croatian island full of unspoiled beauty. It served as a Yugoslav military base from the 1950s to 1989, preserving the island from development and helping its natural beauty remain intact.

The movie Mamma Mia! 2 Here We Go Again was shot on this island, bringing it to global attention. In our video we take you on a tour of various filming locations and recreate some iconic scenes.

Vis houses some amazing beaches - both pebbly and sandy! It is also home to some of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic. The town of Vis on the northeastern coast and Komiža, on the west coast are the two best attractions on the island.

The town of Vis has an intricate mix of Greek, Roman and Baroque Austrian architectures and villas and churches dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. On the other hand, Komiža is a fishing village with stone houses and brightly-painted fishing boats!

With extraordinary beaches and charming towns, this small island is our favorite for its authenticity, peace, and quiet!

Rovinj Croatia ???????? Walking Tour & Travel Guide of Istria’s Old World Oasis | 3 Kids, 197 Countries

Join us as we visit Rovinj - a charming Croatian town on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula on the Adriatic sea!

Rovinj is a quaint fishing town with a photogenic harbor, cobbled car-free streets and some of the best seafood restaurants in Croatia. Originally named as Rovigno which was then later changed to Rovinj, this city looks more Italian than Croatian. However, as it is officially bilingual, the town now goes by both of these names!

When we arrived at Rovinj, we were impressed at how eye-pleasing the harbor looked. Packed with fishing boats, and small ferries, and lined with cafes and gelaterias, we kept stopping along the walk into the town awestruck by the picturesque beauty!

When we finally arrived at the old town, it was like stepping back in time.

Rovinj is quite small with a population of only around 14,000 people, but it is not short on things to do or places to visit. We loved getting lost in its narrow, crisscrossing streets, and discovering the small boutiques, souvenir shops, cafes, and the wonderful Venetian style architecture! The people living in the old town love to dry their clothes outdoors which adds even more color and character to the setting.

Rovinj is also home to many beautiful cats that roam around freely. We tried to make friends with a few of them :-)

After wandering around for a few hours we stopped to enjoy a stunning sunset at the shore.

By the end of the day, we were starving and stopped at a Pizzeria for some authentic Italian pizza!

Pula Croatia ???????? Travel Guide - STUNNING Amphitheater & Beautiful Beaches | 3 Kids, 197 Countries

Join us as we visit Pula - the largest city in Istria County, Croatia with a gorgeous harbor, beach-lined coast, and Roman ruins.

Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula. Historical attractions aside, it is a busy commercial city on the sea that has managed to hold a friendly small-town appeal. Set beside the glittering Adriatic Sea, Pula is home to world-class festivals, fresh and affordable cuisine, and the most complete Roman Colosseum in the world!

When we first saw this city, it almost felt as if we were in Rome. Pula was an important provincial center during the later period of the Roman empire and its legacy of public buildings from the time is among the most impressive in Europe.

One of the best sights to visit in this town is the Pula Arena. Amazingly, this 2 thousand year old amphitheater is almost intact and had a capacity of 20 thousand people when it was in use! Filled with underground tunnels and ancient artifacts, this amazing structure is the sixth-largest of its kind in the world, and feels like a piece of history brought to life!

As we explored the amphitheater, we found towers that used to be filled with scented water to spray on the spectators. There was also a stage being setup for a concert in the amphitheater and the girls had a blast dancing to the music!

Next we went into the tunnels where the animals and gladiators came out from. Inside, we saw some amazing contraptions and even some two-thousand-year-old clay vases.

When we finished touring Pula Arena, we stopped at a Mexican restaurant for some yummy burritos.

At the end of our busy day, we checked in to Ribarska Koliba Resort. Our suite overlooked the port with a gorgeous view.

The next morning we enjoyed the view with a delicious breakfast at the resort. Even though we were visiting at the end of October, the temperature was surprisingly warm at almost 24 degrees celsius.

We then went on a tour of the town, starting at the beautiful Temple of Augustus. Even though it was bombed during World War II, a lot of its ancient architecture and statues are still in great condition.

Pula was one of the most important ship construction sites in the country. Unfortunately, it is now closing down and a lot of people have lost their jobs.

After a short trip to the shipbuilding site, we took a detour to the market and browsed some ornaments & dresses. Our next stop was at the coastal area where the fishermen were bringing in their catch.

Unfortunately, it was Sunday and off-season for tourists, so a few of the attractions in the town were closed. However, we stumbled upon the Istrian olive oil museum where they produce high-quality olive oils and have been in operation for over two thousand years!

An interesting thing about this city is that everywhere you go, you will find some ancient Roman ruins or tunnels. We saw many as we walked around the charming downtown with cobblestone streets, beautiful fountains, and ornate gates.

Our walk eventually took us to Fortress Kaštel. Situated right by the sea and lined with huge cannons, this fortress was built to once protect the town. We could not resist climbing the fort tower for a gorgeous view of the surrounding area and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

That same day was also our 18th wedding anniversary, so in the evening we went out for dinner to celebrate!

Before heading out of Pula, we took a tour of the surrounding canyons and beaches in the town. The coastal area was absolutely stunning with people enjoying the amazing weather and sunbathing on the beach.

We really enjoyed our time in the Istria region of Croatia and can't wait to return again in the future.

Zagreb Croatia ???????? City Tour - Top Things to See & Do | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us as we visit Zagreb - the capital of Croatia on the slopes of Medvednica Hill!

Zagreb is the political, commercial and cultural heart of Croatia with over 900 years of rich history. One of the oldest cities in Central Europe, Zagreb is nestled between the mountain of Medvednica and the river Sava. Even though this is a modern city, it is not without it’s small-town charm. Its enticing mixture of medieval towers, palaces, open-air markets, and ancient cathedrals gives it a unique look seldom found in any other parts of the world!

There are many different kinds of museums; history, education, relationships and even a museum of mushrooms! We visited a few including the Museum of Broken Relationships which is guaranteed to make you laugh ... and cry. It is considered one of the most innovative museums in all of Europe.

Here is an interesting story about Zagreb - the modern city is uniquely separated into 2 sections - Upper Town (Gornji Grad) and Lower Town (Donji Grad).

The Upper Town is the most interesting and ancient part of the city, being home to the Presidential Palace, the iconic St Mark’s Church, the Croatian parliament, and countless museums and galleries. This area seems to be a piece of the past with its cobbled streets lit by gas lamps. The Lower Town offers numerous coffee shops, restaurants, theatres, parks, wide avenues and grand neo-classical buildings. This leafy part of the town is perfect for sampling a delicious Croatian dish, having lunch at a cafe or for some upmarket shopping!

During our stay we also visited the Zagreb Cathedral which was built in the 8th century, the underground tunnels and the world's smallest Funicular which connects the lower town to the upper town. The funicular has been running since 1890!

Since we arrived the day before their independence day we saw many people in the military preparing for their ceremonies. The next day we returned to St Mark’s square and joined in the festivities.

We had such a lovely time here in Zagreb.

Enjoy the video!
