Drone over Terres Basses, St. Martin featuring Baie Longue Beach & La Samanna
Baie Longue beach is one of the longest and most natural beaches in all of St. Martin. It's located in Terres Basses or the Lowlands as they are often referred to. This is a residential area with two main beaches within the residence. Plum Bay is the other beach as well as Baie Rouge which is located outside of the residence and has easy public access from the main road.
Baie Longue beach is home to some of the best villas and most luxurious homes on the island. At the start of the beach is La Samanna, a Belmond luxury hotel.

Drone Video over Terres Basses, St. Martin
When I first started flying drones, it was out of pure attraction to the footage and the controls suited me after a lifetime of playing video games. I never believed it would take me to places I had never been and be able to fly them high above on an island like St. Martin|St. Maarten. The beauty fits with drone footage so well that it's almost as if it was designed to be flown there.
After releasing my video ST MARTIN | ST MAARTEN AFTER HURRICANE IRMA I had many people emailing me and commenting about the drone footage I had shot. It made me realize I have so much additional footage sitting on my hard drive. So I wanted to release it for all to enjoy.
For those of you who don't know Terres Basses, it's a residential area on the French Side right at the border near Cupecoy. This region is home to some of the largest luxury villas on the island, many of which can be easily rented.
It's also home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island like Baie Rouge, Plum Baie, and Baie Longue. Since the area is gated, many travelers don't realize they can access these beaches. There are no private beaches in St. Martin so it's completely legal to be on any of them. So go out and explore!

Flying a Drone over The Devil's Hole in St. Martin
The Devil's Hole (or Trou David as it's less fun name) is an 80 foot in diameter sinkhole between Baie Rouge and Pointe du Bluffe. The highest peak is around 33 feet. It's quite an amazing place to see.
I was lucky enough to be visiting the house next to it and was able to experience it from the top and surrounding areas. The public can access the area from the rectangular stone at the lowest point or if you're feeling frisky, you can swim around to the two holes to access it from the inside.
Many of the island tours will stop by this location. While I was there, I witnessed two different four-wheel tours come by as the area is easy to get to with an off-road vehicle. By car, you can access it, but there is more walking involved. And you'll need to be careful with the path to it being a little rocky.
So if you're looking for an adventure and want to see some natural beauty...this may just be the spot for you. Look up Trou David on Google Maps to find the exact location and work out how you'll visit it. Or if you want to listen to the waves crashing while you sleep, rent the villa on the property. It's called Le Mas des Sables and can be rented through St. Martin Sotheby's International Realty. You'll be able to see it in a way not many people can.

How to get to the beaches in Terres Basses, St. Martin
In this video, I will explain how to get to the beaches in Terres Basses, St. Martin. These beaches include Baie Longue Beach, Baie Rouge Beach, and Plum Bay Beach on the French Side of St. Martin.
Terres Basses Residences in Saint Martin is a security guard gated residential community with two beaches. There are numerous villas and vacation rentals within the community. But the best aspects are the two beaches called Plum Bay and Baie Longue Beach. These beaches are accessible to the public and each have free public parking lot.
When you enter the gate at Terres Basses, you'll need to inform the security guards you are going to the beaches. They will allow you in and you're free to drive to them.
Both beaches offer clean and natural sand. Baie Longue is a lot bigger and wider than Plum Bay but both beaches are worth seeing while visiting Terres Basses.
The additional beach in Terres Basses is outside of the residential area and has easy access for the public including a free parking lot. This beach is called Baie Rouge and is one of my favorites on the island. There's always enough room to spread out, but you'll also most likely never be alone here. The sand is thick and tough to walk through. But it's soft and absolutely amazing.
So those are the three major beaches of Terres Basses, St. Martin. They are all worth visiting and seeing the differences of. Whether it's the location from the sunset or the different sand, and even some are easier to swim in than others depending on the year.

Baie Longue Beach | Terres Basses, St. Martin
Located in the heart of the Low Lands on the western coast of the island, Baie Longue, or Long Bay, is the first beach on the French side of the island, when travelling north from the Dutch side.
One of the longest and quietest beaches on the island. It's accessible by a parking lot in the gated community of Terres Basses. With there being a lack of restaurants and activities on the beach, it's best for getting some peace and quiet. This beach is ideal for people who enjoy walking or sometimes you just want to read a book with only the sounds of the waves.
