Island of Koror in Palau, top sites to see and visit in the island of Palau in the Pacific Ocean! Here's a tour of the island of Koror in Palau in the western Pacific Ocean where I spent 4 days. Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. Koror consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island. The state of Koror contains about 70% of the population of the country.
Koror, formerly Corrora, one of the Caroline Islands that is part of Palau. The island of Koror lies in the western Pacific Ocean just southwest of Babelthuap island. Koror city served as the provisional capital of Palau until 2006, when the capital was moved to Melekeok in eastern Babelthuap. Partly uplifted coralline limestone and partly volcanic in origin, Koror has a land area of 3 square miles (8 square km) and rises to 459 feet (140 metres).
Palau is an archipelago of over 500 islands, part of the Micronesia region in the western Pacific Ocean. Koror Island is home to the former capital, also named Koror, and is the islands’ commercial center. The larger Babeldaob has the present capital, Ngerulmud, plus mountains and sandy beaches on its east coast. In its north, ancient basalt monoliths known as Badrulchau lie in grassy fields surrounded by palm trees.

About Palau: Palau, officially the Republic of Palau (Palauan: Beluu er a Belau) and historically Belau, Palaos or Pelew, is an island country in the western Pacific. The nation has approximately 340 islands and connects the western chain of the Caroline Islands with parts of the Federated States of Micronesia. It has a total area of 466 square kilometers (180 square miles). The most populous island is Koror, home to the countrys most populous city of the same name. The capital Ngerulmud is located on the nearby island of Babeldaob, in Melekeok State. Palau shares maritime boundaries with international waters to the north, Micronesia to the east, Indonesia to the south, and the Philippines to the north west. The country was originally settled approximately 3,000 years ago by migrants from Maritime Southeast Asia. Spain was the first European nation to invade the islands in the 16th century, and they were made part of the Spanish East Indies in 1574. Following Spains defeat in the Spanish–American War in 1898, the islands were sold to Germany in 1899 under the terms of the German–Spanish Treaty, where they were administered as part of German New Guinea. During World War II, skirmishes, including the major Battle of Peleliu, were fought between American and Japanese troops as part of the Mariana and Palau Islands campaign. Exploring Koror Palau
Our first days in Koror, Palau were spent exploring the town from our wonderful hotel, Rose Garden Resort. We visited the Eptison Museum with Elvis and also the Belau Museum. The best part of the day was the double rainbow! They say that Palau is at the edge of paradise and we loved our stay!
During our stay we enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling with Sam's Tours and SCUBA diving with NECO Marine. A bucket list highlight was to swim in Jellyfish Lake and to see and stay in the Rock Islands.

Melekeok Palau - The World's Least Populated Capital City in Palau
Melekeok, state in Palau, western Pacific Ocean. It is located on the east coast of the country’s largest island, Babelthuap. Ngerulmud, the site of the country’s capital, is in Melekeok state; in 2006 the Palau government transferred the capital there from Koror city, on the island of Koror.
The primary focus of activity in the area is the large Neoclassical capitol complex, built on land donated by leading residents of Melekeok state and completed in 2006. Its domed central building, where the Olbiil Era Kelulau (National Congress) meets, resembles the United States Capitol.
