POV Motorcycle Sidecar Ride From Amouli to Onenoa, American Samoa

(Turn on captions for a narration, I hate to listen to someone blather, I'm sure you do as well).

Part 3 of 3 from Breaker's Point, Eastern District, Tutuila Island, American Samoa.

Part 1 of 3, Breaker's Point to Fagitua, here @
Part 2 of 3, Fagaitua to Amouli, here @

Not as dramatic as crossing the ridge from the South Shore of Tutuila Island, American Samoa to the North, but this ride around the far eastern side of the island to the northern side is well worth it as well.

Even if you swim instead of taking a boat, it's much quicker by water from 'Aoa Village to Onenoa Village than it is to take the roads (video of 'Aoa to Amouli here @

I know the man who owns the construction company who build the road from Aua to Onenoa, and he reckoned that the road cost US$100,000 (1993 dollars) per Onenoa inhabitant when his company made the road.

Even though it was to the benefit of the villagers, one family felt that their land was unfairly encroached on as his firm widened the trail into a paved road, and decided that they would force him into removing that section of the road.

He was pre-warned, so when the family delegation arrived, and angrily marched into his office (with violence very much on their mind), he reached into his lap, put two automatic pistols on the table, and said 'I may die today, but I won't be the first'.

If you knew him (and they did), he wasn't kidding, so things were sorted quite amicably very quickly! :)

Scenic bus ride ???? around AMERICAN SAMOA, Pacific Ocean

American Samoa, Pacific Ocean - riding the local buses of American Samoa. Let's travel to the island of American Samoa in the Pacific Ocean and let's enjoy riding the American Samoan buses. Here are a few moments of bus rides from the American territory of American Samoa in the Pacific Ocean... Beautiful and spectacular views...
American Samoa is a U.S. territory covering 7 South Pacific islands and atolls. Tutuila, the largest island, is home to the capital Pago Pago, whose natural harbor is framed by volcanic peaks including 1,716-ft.-high Rainmaker Mountain. Divided between the islands Tutuila, Ofu and Ta‘ū, the National Park of American Samoa highlights the territory's tropical scenery with rainforests, beaches and reefs.

Motorcycle Sidecar POV Tour Masefau to Sailele, Eastern District, Tutuila Island, American Samoa

(Turn on captions for a running commentary)
During my son's school break, we decided to add in a tour to Sailele Village.

We have a previous video up from Masefau to Fagaitua, but taking the left fork to Sailele, with it's twisting and turning through the rain forest, is very unique, and a blast to ride.

With the vegetation on the road, dogs, and the possibility of on-coming traffic has me moderating my speed!

Turning off to Masausi is a trip for another day.

Into and Through Vatia, American Samoa

Walking down into Vatia via the ancient trail in the National Park of American Samoa that once acted as the trade route over the mountains. Then driving through and out of Vatia on the road built in the 1970's. A lovely Saturday afternoon. Fa'afetai to the folks of Vatia for sharing your wonderful village and being such great partners of the National Park.

Aua Village To The National Park of American Samoa Via Motorcycle / Sidecar

We had a couple of more weeks before school restarts, so my son and I took advantage of the rare clear day to take a ride to Vatia, where the US National Park of American Samoa is (actually part of it; there are other parts on Ta'u, Ofu, and Olosega islands).

We're going to try to get at least one more ride in before it's back to the grind.

I also have a couple of other riding videos up on my sculling (rowing) channel,
samoacoastalrowing,

Sidecar tour from 'Aoa Bay in the eastern district of Tutuila Island, American Samoa

(Turn captions on for a running commentary).

We had one more week before my son went back to school, and I was to go back to teaching High School Robotics, and the weather was fair, so we got in another video session from the rig, a 2009 Yamaha Vstar 1100 Custom with a DMC Kenna Double Sidecar.

If not for the trade winds being up to 20-25 knots (37-46 kph), we would gone out open ocean rowing in our single sculls, but the seas were up accordingly, and the margin of safety would have been cut too fine for my taste (my sculling channel, @

The ‘pavilions’ that you see are called ‘fale’, the English language translation of which is home, or house. Forty years ago, most people lived in one with their extended family, ‘aiga’. These days, they’re used more as clan meeting houses.

The sand on the road in the low areas are from the destructive king tides two weeks preceding the trip.
