Drama's Departing the Solomon Islands (Sailing Nandji) Ep 83

We spend our last days in the Solomon Islands, we clear customs and are ready to go, but Nandji does not agree...

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, We are in Gizo preparing for our onward journey to Papua New Guinea. Yosh gets a few waves and we anchor out front of what we thought we would be the perfect anchorage to prepare Nandji, until a storm rolls in. With bad weather for days on end we try to keep ourselves occupied and relies that the island close by needs some loving. Sick of seeing rubbish all the time, Bonita decides to do something about it and tidies up our little patch of beach with the help from a few little lads. Finally we are ready to leave and clear customs but Nandji decides something else... She keeps us on our toes!

Thankyou to everyone who contributed to Nandji's new windlass in the SAVE YOSHS BACK campaign. We have reached our target and are working on the logistics of purchasing one and having it delivered to a future port down the track! Yew!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! 5000nm down and many more to go!

A Bit of a Nightmare Passage... (Sailing Nandji) Ep 84

Our most frightening time at sea...

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we depart the Solomon Islands and sail 450nm to Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare passage with many obstacles to over come along the way. With Bonita's resilience and determination, Nandji powers on and we reach Papua New Guinea waters. This passage was challenging, annoying, beautiful and also the most scariest as we endure our most frightening time at sea.

Thankyou to everyone who contributed to Nandji's new windlass in the SAVE YOSHS BACK campaign. We have reached our target and are working on the logistics of purchasing one and having it delivered to a future port down the track! Yew!

The SPOOKY SECRET PIRATE COVE | Sailing Thailand (Sailing Nandji) Ep 136

Its a Pirates life and where do you hide your treasure? In the spooky secret cove of course!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, after 3 long months in Langkawi, the day arrives where we can set some sails and depart onwards to our next adventure. Leaving Langkawi feels like such an accomplishment after working so hard on upgrading our vessel.

With hundred's of islands between Langkawi and Thailand, it would be rude of us not to explore some of these magical lands. The geography of the area is simply stunning and then reading about a secret pirate cove hidden away on one of these islands, we knew we had to investigate.

Needing to swim through pitch darkness for 80 metres through a bat ridden cave, at times the rock came so close to the waters surface you could barely sneak through without holding your breath. Then once you think your completely lost, you duck under the last rock ledge and emerge into the most beautiful pristine secret pirate cove.

The waters of Thailand were run with pirates years ago and this is where they hid their plunder. Behind the emerald light, to the place the eye can not see. TO find the light, you must first find the darkness... Arrrr

Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean.

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. The work is now complete and off we go to Thailand on our way to Indonesia.

We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! Indian Ocean here we come!!

SAILING to SURF, the Search is Real! | Sailing Indonesia (Sailing Nandji) Ep 139

Living out our dreams of Sailing to remote Indonesia in the search for the perfect wave.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the boat yard is just a distant memory as we set sails down the West Coast of Sumatra in the search for waves. WE clear into Indonesia in Sabang and then head on down the coast, collecting a couple of young Aussie surfer lads as we go. We decide to take them along for a ride and head to the island of Nias. We had left Uncle and Bob back in Langkawi and arriving into the bay we were greeted with only these two vessels anchored in the calm lagoon. With a run of swell on the way, the lads get busy in the pumping left hander out the front. It was fun to try and remember how to surf again after months of not surfing!

Worn out and hungry from a few days of practicing our surfing skills and combing the beach, we head into the weekly markets and show a little inside into village life. The sleepy quite town all week has barely noone around, but come market day it is a bustling metropolis! This is the first time we have seen Bat on the menu...

Now this is Living! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 90

Arriving to remote island communities after 6 days at sea, we settle into island life and play with Manta Rays!

In this Episode of Sailing Nandji, after a slow 6 day passage at sea, we arrive to the remote Papua New Guinea group of islands called the Hermit Islands. We spend hours diving and exploring what is below the surface and see lots of marine life. Plenty of sharks and we play with some Manta Rays. We catch plenty of fish and help out the local village residents where we can then head back to sea on an overnight passage to the next chain of islands 80nm away. Arriving to the Ninigo Islands, we are greeted by Oscar and his 12m sailing canoe. He invites us for a sail and off we go sailing a little different than normal!!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We just arrived to Indonesia after cruising the Pacific islands. We departed Australia 12 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Volcanoes, World Wars & the Buried City (Sailing Nandji) Ep 86

Buried by a Volcano twice and infiltrated in World War 2 with a maze of tunnels... Welcome to Rabaul, Papua New Guinea

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are in the city of Rabaul, Papua New Guinea. We are a little stuck waiting on a package to arrive so utilise the time explore this very interesting city. This city has survived, 2 World wars, a tsunami and two volcanoes eruptions covering the city! All in the past 100 years! What a place! During WW2 the Japanese held Rabaul and dug mazes of tunnels through out the hills of Rabaul and many are still standing today. We explore some of these caverns and scare Bonita with all the creepy crawlies.
It has been a long time since we have had any friends on the boat and we were lucky to cross paths with an old mate from back home and enjoy a great day catching up.
Bonita then models her PNG fashion!!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We just arrived to Indonesia after cruising the Pacific islands, so many places to explore!

MARLEY, the Sailing Whippet | Sailing with a dog, How we do it! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 138

Sailing with a Dog, We Do it! Life wouldn't be the same without our crew member!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we give some information about our pet dog MARLEY the Sailing Whippet. We have been sailing offshore for 2 years now and have lived on our boat for 3 with our dog.

We are often asked many questions about Marley and hopefully this answers the difficult ones like, Where does he wee and poo? Doesn't that dog need lots of exercise? Why is he so skinny?

We take you through a bit of day in the life of Marley and what we do to keep him happy and safe whilst we are sailing. It is a big decision to sail offshore and visit other countries with your dog or pet and we plan to break down the information and inform you more about our choices and why we brought Marley along for the ride!

Solving our Water leak for good! Stern tube installation (Sailing Nandji) Ep 124

With a constant water leak sinking our boat, we install a NEW stern tube and fix the problem!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive back to Langkawi with a boat full of NEW gear to install onto Nandji. Upon our return to the boatyard, we had a special delivery from Australia, our NEW Stern tube! We had been waiting on this to arrive for weeks as we need to install the stern tube, to then install the shaft so we can align and position the new engine correctly.
We have had a trickle of water though the hull on the outside of the stern tube since we burnt out a bearing on our journey to the boatyard and created a hole in the old stern tube. We take you through the installation process of the new Stern tube and solve our water leak for good!

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit!
We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Under Attack! the Mold Invasion! - Sailing Nandji, Ep 73

Being off the boat for a week in the tropics means only one thing. Attack of the black mould!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Bonita's folks leave us and we are back to the boat with the weather still very stormy. Wanting to leave the anchorage and find some reception, we depart with the weather still very unpredictable. A great introduction back to boat life! Of course we need to change course and head for a more more protected anchorage due to the weather. Finally the sun returns and with it is the invasion of the black mould. With no air flow in the boat for over a week, things became a little smelly and then the invasion begun. We spend (well Bonita mostly) cleaning and scrubbing the boat with natural remedies and let you in on some secrets. With a clean boat again, we head back to town where Marley gets him self into some mischief...

Patrons Only! We now have special feature videos in every episode for our patrons only. Join the Nandji family for more fun!

Get Surfshark VPN at Enter promo code SAILINGNANDJI for 83% off and one extra month for free!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we spend the last few days with our friends from home onboard. Whilst the lads are out surfing, the girls are tired of standing behind the cameras and make their own fun, living the hammock life!

Bonita and Tash are taken to the playful wave of Bengs Bengs to try and get a few amongst the masses. We then have a minor problem where the captain did not prepare the boat properly before leaving... What a good excuse to have a beach bomb fire and cook in the coals with our last night with friends on board before over night sail back to Padang to drop Tash and Teebs off to the airport.

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf before our big crossing!

Christmas on a sail boat, in the Solomon Islands! Visiting a village, WW2 relics, diving, playing with the kids and trading with the many visiting canoes! Nandji Life

Completing our final video for 2017, we celebrate at the Yacht club. Yosh gets caught out talking about his singing talents and gets signed up for karaoke... Deciding it best to leave Honiara, we set off on a 30nm sail across to the Florida Islands for some Christmas fun. Anchoring near a small village, we head ashore and check out the village. The chief and his family have a collection of WW2 relics they found on the surrounding lands. Setting sail once more on Christmas day, we head to another little island paradise and spend sometime diving and playing with the local kids. We trade with the many passing canoes for some fresh produce and explain a little about trading in the Solomon Islands.

Ohh Yeah... Little Slices of Heaven - Sailing Nandji, Ep 69

Exploring the Russell Group of the Solomon Islands was amazing. Beautiful beaches, stunning reefs and discovering new waves. Bliss.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we sail an overnight passage from the Florida islands to the Russell Group in the Solomon Islands. Arriving to Lologhan island, we raft up with our friends Fara on the small shoal. Wasting no time, we set out exploring below the surface and are amazed how clear the water was. Yoshi shoots a big Barracuda and enough to feed the group so Bonita cooks up a storm in the fire on the beach, under the stars. Bliss.
We head in different directions to Fara and spend some quality solotude time away from any other people on our own private islands. The islands are open to the Coral sea and have little waves for surfing. We both have a play and would love to return to these places one day when the swell is up! Because the waves were small, Yoshi got creative with his naming of the waves! Yew!

We first departed Australia without him as the paperwork needed is extensive and we though safest for our first blue water passage that he stay in Australia and we organise a flight for him to join us once again. After months of organisation from the pet travel agent Jetpets and lots of help from family and friends, the day finally comes when we are re-united once again. Dealing with customs, Bustin out of Vanuatu! - Sailing Nandji, Ep 60

Finally we prepare Nandji to depart Port Villa and sail north to Santo island. We try to check out of the country with Customs, but they won't let us go!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the time has finally come to prepare Nandji to sail and depart Port Vila, Vanuatu. We get the motor inspected one last time before deciding we are ready to travel. Loading up with supplies and filling the tanks, we have a rougher sail then expected and sail 150nm to Malakula island and spend the night anchored at our own private beach. Next day we tracks to Santo island where we try to check out of the country. This turns out to be a near impossible task as Customs officers all have different ideas about rules and length of lunch breaks!

Winded Voyage 3 | Episode 41 | Sailing South With A Full Crew

Finally I depart Santa Cruz de Tenerife. And I don't go it alone, I'm accompanied with six crew members. All pretty hot looking. But before heading off, I go and visit my friend Walter and his boat. A boat he built himself in Switzerland and sailed it all the way from our landlocked motherland on water! It's a great story.

Hello NEW MOTOR!! Goodbye old Smokey! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 118

With Nandji on the hard stand, it is time to get this old engine off our boat! Good Riddance Old Smoky!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, with Nandji firmly set on the hard stand our boat refit begins. After having so many troubles with our old engine in the past, this was the first job tackled, ripping out the old engine. Nandji is a centre cockpit vessel and the engine is directly below the cockpit, making the obvious choice for removal through the cockpit, hence cutting a hole in the floor.
We plan to overhaul the entire engine compartment and everything to do with the old engine. New drive system including gearbox, new exhaust system and new fuel system, including the fuel tank itself. The old fuel tank was made out of steel and had become rusty and no doubt close to leaking, time to fix everything and get this old stuff of our boat. With some clever rigging techniques, steadily the old fuel tank and our old engine Old Smoky are removed and taken away.

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades!
