Snorkelling-Turtle-Shark-Reef-Gaafaru-Maldives-Day 6-Episode 8

Snorkelling-Turtle-shark-reef-Gaafaru-Maldives-Day 6-Episode 8

Snorkeling
turtle maldives water sports activities, water sports in maldives, water activities in maldives

There are snorkeling trips every day to Nemo Reef, Palm reef, Turtle reef, and shark points for $25.

Also, you can snorkel up close and personal with the whale sharks in Dhigurah(which grows up to 80m in length) depending on the season(usually between May and December). These are massive, magnificent creatures, divers around the world are always in search of, so don’t miss out on this one if you have the chance! Mostly found in Baa and Ari Atolls.

On the other hand, if you don’t want to venture far out of your island for snorkeling, then head out to the south beach, where you can find small Grey tip or white tip sharks, if lucky, right by the shore. Also, the south beach is much better because of the unending panoramic views it offers.

Season
The high season is usually between December and March. The monsoon season runs from May to October where there isn’t much to do except scuba dive. Fringe months like October and November are usually a great time to visit since the prices are not as expensive as high season and yet you can enjoy the Maldives in good weather and at the same time have access to all the cool water activities.

Is Maldives safe for solo travellers?
The Maldives is no more just a honeymoon destination. It is possible to travel solo on a decent budget especially if you stay in the local islands. Maafushi is the best island in Maldives for solo travelers as it has tons of activities and also you can find a lot of travelers around to mingle with.

However, it’s worth mentioning here is that at the Male airport, at one of the checkpoints, I was asked if I’m traveling solo. I told them that I was joining my friends who were already there at the island. The security guard seemed quite surprised that I was traveling solo, so if you are, it’s bound to raise eyebrows at least. Maldives after all is a conservative Muslim country.

On the other hand, if you are looking for someplace secluded, head out to Gulhi island or Guraidhoo island which is about 10 minutes away from Maafushi. It can still get quite pricey for solo travelers with regards to stay, food and water activities. Some hotels do offer slashed room rates for solo travelers, but it is not usually the norm.

Maldives Airport
Velana International Airport, also known as Malé International Airport, is the only international airport in the Maldives. You can access the remote islands of Maldives by air through seaplanes from the airport.

Visa Requirements for Maldives
It is hassle-free to obtain a tourist visa to the Maldives. A 30-day free Visa on Arrival is issued for all nationalities (including Indians) provided that you possess a valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity.

Have a valid ticket to continue the journey out of the Maldives and sufficient funds to cover the expenses for the duration of the stay in the Maldives. (US$100 + $50 dollars per day). Also, a confirmation of reservation in a resort or a hotel. Generally, you can literally breeze through immigration with a stamp on your passport. But carry the necessary documents just to be on the safer side

Souvenirs are quite pricey over here. A fridge magnet costs $3. Typical Maldives touristy T-shirt sets you back by $10. True to being a beach destination, expect to find a variety of accessories and show items made of pearls and corals

Blacktip reef shark- Snorkeling - Sawadarek - Pulau Mansuar - Raja Ampat - Indonesia

The blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a species of requiem shark, in the family Carcharhinidae, which can be easily identified by the prominent black tips on its fins (especially on the first dorsal fin and its caudal fin). Among the most abundant sharks inhabiting the tropical coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, this species prefers shallow, inshore waters. Its exposed first dorsal fin is a common sight in the region. The blacktip reef shark is usually found over reef ledges and sandy flats, though it has also been known to enter brackish and freshwater environments. It typically attains a length of 1.6 m (5.2 ft). Like other sharks, the females are larger than the males.

The blacktip reef shark has extremely small home ranges and exhibits strong site fidelity, remaining within the same local area for up to several years at a time. It is an active predator of small bony fishes, cephalopods, and crustaceans, and has also been known to feed on sea snakes and seabirds. Accounts of the blacktip reef shark's life history have been variable and sometimes contradictory, in part reflecting geographical differences within the species. Like other members of its family, this shark is viviparous, with females giving birth to two to five young on a biennial, annual, or possibly biannual cycle. Reports of the gestation period range from 7–9, through 10–11, to possibly 16 months. Mating is preceded by the male following closely behind the female, likely attracted by her chemical signals. Newborn sharks are found further inshore and in shallower water than adults, frequently roaming in large groups over areas flooded by high tide.

Timid and skittish, the blacktip reef shark is difficult to approach and seldom poses a danger to humans unless roused by food. However, people wading through shallow water are at risk of having their legs mistakenly bitten. This shark is used for its meat, fins, and liver oil, but is not considered to be a commercially significant species. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed the blacktip reef shark as Vulnerable. Although the species as a whole remains widespread and relatively common, overfishing of this slow-reproducing shark has led to its decline at a number of locales.

vacation in the Maldives, where you can spot majestic sharks in the archipelago's waters #shorts

Wait for the scream. Join @sarah_letsgoto & @mrgetbucketsu23 on vacation in the Maldives, where you can spot majestic sharks in the archipelago's waters throughout the year!

Fun fact: There is no history of shark attacks in the Maldives and it's perfectly safe to swim with them here. Anyone who has experienced swimming with sharks in the Maldives will attest to how fun and incredible the experience is! You will see many sharks but they won't be interested in you, as they feed on small fish and marine animals.

Have you ever swam with the gentle sharks of the Maldives?

Shark at Popular Beach in Turks&Caicos (grace bay)

This seven foot nurse shark was filmed about a hundred yards off the main beach on the Sandals/Beaches Turks&Caicos property (on Grace Bay). I filmed while snorkling around six p.m. and it was in about twenty feet of water. The shark didnt' like swimmers and moved on. No worries, it doesn't like to nibble on toes!
