Made up of thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean, Micronesia is a sub-region of Oceania. It has a shared cultural history with two other island regions, Polynesia to the east and Melanesia to the south. Yap is located in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean.Scuba diving in Yap is truly outstanding. There is an extensive barrier reef protecting many of the dive sites in Yap as well as channels and even lagoons .The highlight of Yap are its resident Manta Rays and reef shark population
The marine ecosystem around Yap Island is a remarkable bionetwork of cleaning stations, with sufficient density of planktonic organisms and a pollution-free environment. This is an irreplaceable haven and allows Yap’s manta ray population to be yearlong residents. The waters around Yap are one of the very few places in the world where the promise of a manta ray sighting is almost guaranteed anytime of the year. The sanctuary management plan will provide an ecological approach to protecting the habitat for manta rays and other marine species, including sharks, ensuring that these resources will be plentiful for future generations.

Leider ist mir in den ersten Tagen mein Videolicht ausgefallen sodass ich für diesen Urlaub keine Beleuchtung hatte. Fing ja schon mal Super an!

Vertigo - Yap Island's signature shark dive spot. After our dive with manta rays in the morning, Yap Divers took us to Vertigo. I stayed in Colonia, Yap Island's biggest town in the Federated States of Micronesia. Only one song could possibly fit for the soundtrack, U2's Vertigo.

Vertigo is home to our school of grey and black tip reef sharks. Located on the West coast of the island south of M’il Channel, a 25 to 35 minute boat ride. One of the best shark dives in Micronesia, happening everyday.

2019 Dive site Yap Caverns - One of Yap´s Best
The southern most tip of the island offers divers the most diversity of life and interesting topography where divers swim through the reef with life big and small.
Yap Caverns amphitheater is one of Yap’s best environments for macro subjects at every depth. Porcelain crabs, moyers dragonettes, nudibranch, leaf fish, scorpion fish, antheas, flame angels, cleaner and ghost shrimp as as well as more exotic subjects such as ghost pipe fish and ornate ghost pipe fish reside at this site.
