On Top of the World with British Airways' new A380 to South Africa #lookup

Find out about our A380 here:

Imagine Dragons 2013 smash hit single On Top of the World is featured in British Airways latest A380 video and covered by South African multi-award winning Afro-fusion band, Freshlyground.

The video features South African Springbok rugby captain Jean de Villiers and his team mates, Schalk Burger and Eben Etzebeth. British Airways new A380 super-jumbo is seen flying over Cape Town, one of the world's most popular and best loved long haul destinations. The special British Airways flight takes us over Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain, Boulders Beach and the world famous winelands.

British Airways' began its A380 direct service to Johannesburg in February 2014, the third destination to have the world's largest commercial passenger aircraft, after Los Angeles and Hong Kong. British Airways has also increased its schedule to Cape Town this winter, and flies 10 times a week.

Street Action, an organisation dedicated to ensuring children aren't forced to live on the streets, is hoping that the latest video will prove at least as popular. For every 100 000 views it generates, British Airways will donate a ticket. Streetwise works with organisations in Burundi, Kenya and South Africa, including Umthombo Street Children in Durban, which is known for engaging children through its pioneering surfing programme.

BA 2119 : Flight of the Future : A virtual reality immersive experience - Charlotte Mikkelborg

During this morning's visit to BA2119 exhibition on the future of flight, I caught up with Charlotte Mikkelborg, the artist involved in designing the immersive VR experience at the exhibition (I tried the experience and it was very impressive)

To celebrate its centenary British Airways is launching BA 2119: Flight of the Future, a first-of-its-kind exhibition looking ahead to the next 100 years of flying and imagining what that may look like.

The exhibition will be open throughout August, British Airways’ birthday month, and is based on in-depth global research commissioned by the airline to identify what aviation could look like in 20 years, 40 years, 60 years and beyond.

BA 2119: Flight of the Future, in collaboration with the Royal College of Art, seeks to push the boundaries of imagination and explore how future generations will circumnavigate the globe in a world of advanced jet propulsion, hyper personalisation, automation, AI, modular transport, sustainability, health and entertainment.

Immerse yourself in the evolution of flight through a first-of-its-kind interactive, multisensory virtual reality experience that traces humankind's relationship with flight.

Built by multiple award-winning VR creators and an Oscar-winning practical effects team, Fly turns you into a time-travelling pilot, from the earliest imaginings of Leonard da Vinci and his ornithopter, to the Wright Brothers' first successful attempt at Kitty Beach, to British Airways' predecessor, Air Transport and Travel's inaugural flight to Paris. Travel on Concorde before jumping to today's A350 and onwards to a possible vision of the future of aviation.

Red Bus - Flights to London with British Airways

Visit

London’s buses are a symbol of British style and heritage. Blazing red and double-decker, they are so much more than a means of conveyance; they’re a photo opportunity, a means of exploring the city and a splash of colour on a winter’s day.

But a red bus on a beach? That’s not something you see every day.

Carol Vorderman joins British Airways' call for more female pilots

TV personality and qualified pilot, Carol Vorderman is backing our call for more women to become airline pilots.

While British Airways has more female pilots than any other UK airline, with nearly 200 flying for us, we are determined to see that number rise.

We recruit trained pilots from other airlines and the armed forces, and also run our own cadet training scheme called the British Airways Future Pilot Programme – open to anyone from 18 to 55, with no previous flying experience required.

The airline plans to open the next application window for the programme from February, 2015. More details are available at

Carol, who is planning to fly solo around-the-world next year following in the flight path of British pioneer aviator Mildred Bruce, said: “I always wanted to be a pilot. It was the reason I read Engineering at Cambridge, and ideally would have joined British Airways after graduating, but sadly their training school wasn’t open at that time.

“Thankfully with initiatives like British Airways’ Future Pilot Programme there are more opportunities for tomorrow’s potential female pilots. What a great life they have ahead of them.”

The airline’s cadet programme has proved popular with some 4,500 applications in each of its first three years. It has seen a gradual increase in the number of female applicants and successful cadets each year – but British Airways is hoping to attract even more women in order to deepen the potential talent pool of pilots.

British Airways’ First Officer Emily Lester, said: “The British Airways Future Pilot Programme has allowed me to realise my dream of becoming an airline pilot.

“After an intensive training programme I am now flying to destinations throughout Europe and would encourage anyone thinking of a career as a pilot to apply.

“It’s an ideal route into an incredibly rewarding career for both men and women.”

British Airways offers its pilots a range of options to suit all lifestyles including part-time roles, as well as long and short-haul flying on its fleet of more than 280 aircraft across 180 worldwide destinations.
