Eivør in her Faroe Islands ????????

This mini documentary shows the beauty of the Faroe islands' nature and landscape. It features the popular Faroese folk singer Eivor Pálsdóttir performing an old Nordic hymn Jeg vil mig Herren love in Gota church and afterwards a local priest explains the historical story of the first black man on the Faroe islands and how the English monarchy awarded the Faroese with a silver plate for their hospitality that is now worth millions.

Tourism in the Faroe Islands is growing like never before

Tourism in the Faroe Islands is growing like never before.

In January, 2013, Visit Faroe Islands launched a new strategy for Faroese tourism. An assessment of the strategy’s impact during the past three years clearly shows that the results so far are very good.

Langt burt frá øðrum londum - The Faroe Islands

Far away from other countries - The Faroe Islands.

A few photos I've taken around the most beautiful place on earth, accompanied by singer Eivør Pállsdóttir singing the song Langt burt frá øðrum londum by Gulak Jacobsen.

Text (in Faroese):
Langt burt frá øðrum londum - og báran gongur brøtt -
ein oyggjaflokkur samlaður man finnast;
har kanst tú síggja líðir, har kanst tú síggja fløtt,
og grasið grør frá egg til dalin innast;
og fjøllini tey reisa seg ímóti himli høgt,
ei annað eygað skoðar, er tað enn bjart og gløgt,
enn hav og himmal - landið tað er Føroyar.

Um tú vilt geva gætur, vilt tú verða varur við
mangt gott og vakurt millum fjals og fjøru;
tær oyggjar rætt sum systrar, ja allar lið um lið,
so vinaliga líta hvør mót øðru.
Har kanst tú finna hvítan sand og bratta meitilberg,
hvar lomvigi og lundi geva fólki hold og merg,
tí djarva fólk´, sum hevur heim í Føroyum.

Vit, sum í Føroyum fingu dagsins ljós at sjá,
sum børn við móðurbarm har mundu hvíla,
vit vilja, meðan vit eru hesum foldum á,
tær oyggjar elska bæði nú og síðla.
Tí, sig mær, kanst tú finna so hugnaligt eitt orð,
um tú tín tanka vendir í sunnan og í norð,
sum føðiland, og okkum er tað Føroyar.

Hvar enn tín fótur fjakkar, hvar enn tú festir búgv,
ber altíð títt føðiland í minni;
tí urtin hon følnar og verður ikki drúgv,
er rótleysur stelkurin hin stinni.
Bið gott yvir fólkið av fornari ætt,
sum Guð hevur givið so dýran ein skatt:
At liva við friði í Føroyum.

The Faroe Islands

Read our BLOG about our phototours there:

Located midway between Iceland and Norway, the Faroe Islands are an arrowhead-shaped archipelago of eighteen dramatic basalt crags soaring straight out of the wild North Atlantic Ocean. Born of volcanic activity some 55 million years ago, these islands, still largely undiscovered by mainstream tourism, are a spectacular Nordic version of Hawaii. Settled by Vikings during the ninth century, the Faroes were probably discovered and first inhabited in the mid-sixth century by Irish monks. Saint Brendan the Navigator dubbed them ‘the islands of the sheep and the paradise of the birds’. The often mercurial weather creates an ever-changing backdrop to iconic mountains, fjords, sea stacks, waterfalls, and vertiginous coastal cliffs that harbour thousands of seabirds. In short, the Faroes are a photographer's paradise.

A week in the Faroe Islands || music: Andvekur by Teitur

Wandering the Faroe Islands

I spent a six days by myself on the Faroe Islands in October 2019. It was one of my favorite trips I've ever been on. Traveling alone kind of forces me to engage with the locals more than I would if I was with a group of friends. That's how I found myself at Hoyma, a music festival that takes place in 20 homes in the town of Syðrugøta where ten musicians / bands perform to small groups of people in intimate settings. It was incredible.

Outside the festival, I would drive around listening to Back to You by Benjamin Gordon quite a bit. It reminds me of the people I met while I was there and the cinematic landscapes. Time moved slower there and sometimes it felt like I was living in a film. Hopefully the world opens up soon so I can visit my friends again.
