Amazon Rainforest Experience | Peru Vlogs

Swimming with piranhas. Night hiking with tarantulas. Playing with sloths. Listening to birds at sunrise. The Amazon is an incredible and unforgettable experience. Here's a link to book your own Amazon adventure:

**What's going on?**
I'm on a business trip with some friends from school. We're visiting a lot of companies and learning about business in Peru and all of Latin America. Between business visits, we're exploring and eating all the food. :)

Click here to watch all the videos in the Peru playlist:

In this video, we spend three days exploring the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. We left Iquitos via the port Bellavista Nanay, where you can buy fruit and snacks for the boat ride to your camp. You can also eat larvae here.

We stayed at a no frills eco lodge. Generators came on during lunch and dinner so they can cook food. We could charge our batteries during those times, which was fortunate.

Our guide stayed with us for the entirety of our trip and really made the experience great. His name is Andres and we highly recommend him. He gave us tips, insights, and interesting facts about the trees, animals, and people around us. Check him out on facebook here:

We did everything I could think of for an Amazon adventure. All the timestamps are below for each of the experiences:

0:16 - Bellavista Nanay, eating larvae
0:48 - Cruising the Amazon River
0:58 - Local village - playing with parrots, sloths, snakes, anteaters, alligators, and more
3:11 - Daytime hike through Amazon rainforest, eating medicinal plants, trying not to get eaten by giant ants
5:10 - A STICK BUG!! It's only for a few seconds, but I was pretty dang excited about it
5:29 - Swimming with piranhas
6:18 - Night cruise to catch alligators
7:05 - Eerie and foggy morning cruise
8:08 - Indigenous village visit - war paint, dancing, blow darts, and A BABY SLOTH
10:29 - Amazon eco-lodge room tour
11:15 - Monkey Island
13:14 - Swimming and mud baths in the Amazon River
13:54 - Fishing for piranhas
14:32 - Night hike with tarantulas, scorpion spiders, wolf spiders, snakes, and other super creepy things.
16:34 - Sunrise canoe (paddling) to hear birds chirping

Thanks for watching!

Four Days in Peru's Amazon Jungle

Piranha fishing. Pink dolphin spotting. Dancing with local tribe members. A trip to Peru's Amazon jungle has it all! We knew we wanted to experience the world's biggest rainforest when we went to Peru, but figuring out where to go, what to do and how long to stay there can be overwhelming. So we've got you covered! Here's a look at our itinerary for four days and three nights outside of Iquitos, Peru.

Some quick tips:
-We highly recommend Maniti Expeditions! We loved our guide Alfredo and had a great experience overall.
-Stay for at least two but preferably three nights. It takes a while to get there, so one night isn't enough. But it is rustic, so unless you're used to roughing it, more than three nights might start to wear on you.
-Most tour companies provide rain boots, but they may not be in great shape. So bring plenty of extra socks or your own boots if you can.
-Other waterproof gear, such as ponchos and backpack covers, will come in handy.
-Bring a headlamp for night hikes!
-The bugs are no joke. Get your recommended vaccinations, bring plenty of bug spray and wear long clothes despite the heat.
-Bring cash to buy drinks and to tip your guide and staff.
-Don't drink the water, even to brush your teeth. And bring Imodium just in case some slips in!

Day in the Life of an Amazon Jungle Tribe!

???? Tijuana Migrant Camps ►
✈️ How I Started Traveling ►
???? My New Food Channel ► @GarethEats

This is a day in the life of the indigenous Sápara tribe who live within the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Today, their population totals less than 700 people, across 22 communities, and they are constantly battling to keep their culture, traditions and territory in-tact in an ever pressing capitalist world.

The Sápara, also known as Zápara or Záparo, once occupied some 12,000 mi² between the Napo River and the Pastaza in the Amazon rainforest along the border of Ecuador and Peru.

Early in the 20th century, there were some 200,000 Zapara. From the year 2009 on the Ecuadorian Zápara call themselves Sápara. The official name is Nación Sápara del Ecuador (NASE).

The Sápara people have a distinct language, known as Sápara, which is considered critically endangered with only a few fluent speakers remaining. They have a unique cosmology that revolves around their close relationship with the natural world, viewing themselves as an integral part of the forest ecosystem.

They possess extensive knowledge of the medicinal properties of plants and have a profound understanding of the intricate balance of the rainforest.

However, the Sápara people face numerous challenges, including encroachment on their lands by extractive industries, deforestation, and the loss of their cultural heritage. Despite these pressures, the Sápara people continue to fight for their rights, seeking recognition and protection of their territory, language, and way of life. Efforts are being made to preserve their culture and support their sustainable practices, ensuring the survival and well-being of the Sápara people and their unique contributions to the world.

Amazon rainforest adventure travel in Peru at Jungle Treehouse Lodge Travel Video Transcript:

So we are staying in the coolest place ever. We have just arrived at the Treehouse Lodge in the middle of the Amazon jungle. And we're going to be living in a tree house for the next few days. So come along and I'm going to show you our personal private tree house. And we're living in a tree house! We're living in a treehouse!
Every kids dream.

Okay, well we want to show you more of the property but right now we're about to head out on a jungle walk. We're going to be looking for medicinal plants and learning about their uses. It also just started pouring rain. So it is time for our jungle expedition.

So Sam, you look like you're ready for a jungle excursion.
Show us your footwear. And here is the leaf that is used to make the Juane. The traditional food from the Amazon jungle here in Peru.

So we are back from the jungle excursion. Yeah, that jungle walk was awesome. We learned so much about all of the different local plants and what they are used for in terms of different medicinal properties and also for food. And now we're off on a cool boat trip. We're just going to be cruising down the Amazon and looking for pink dolphins. Yes and maybe we'll stick around for sunset too.

Macau look! So we just spotted a sloth up in the tree. We wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for our guide though. And this is sunset on the Amazon river. So that is the end of day one. How are you feeling about sleeping in this tree house? Awesome. A lot of adventure.

Well, good morning it is the start of day two and it was sure raining last night. Like thunderstorms, the whole deal.

We're going to try and spot some wildlife. We went out for a little excursion this morning and we've been traveling upstream and now we've arrived at a prime location to fish piranhas. So Sam, how are you feeling about that? Feeling good because you're going to stick your fingers in and they're going to bite them, right?

So we've going to use this small fish. Oh! To feed the piranha.
You want to try to splash the water. That is the way how to attract the piraña. Splashing the water. Calling the piranha. Okay, so I'm going try my hand at fishing for piranhas. I've got the bait here. Right here. Let's do this. Our first piraña.

Look at the teeth on that sucker. Oh my gosh I would not want to be bitten by one of those. That is scary.

You got one! Show it to us. I finally caught one. It was a big one too.

There you go. Sam's first piranha. Look at that. Probably my 20th attempt and I was not going to give up until I got one.

Now it is time for lunch. We are having ceviche. Our favorite as an appetizer. Wow, look at that.

So we are about to go on one more excursion this evening but before we head out we want to show you the rest of the property. So let's go in search of some tree houses.

We are now entering the bamboo forest.

Oh! Are they fighting? Yeah. Squack. Alright, so Sam is going to feed a monkey. Yes, I've got my chunk of banana. Now time to throw it.

So right now we are trekking through the mud in search of giant lily pads.

So we are meeting a sloth that was apparently rescued by a family when it was really young. So it lives with them in the house and it is very sleepy and slow. So oh, but it has woken up. It is eating. Pablito? Pablito is having lunch.

Okay so this morning we went fishing for piranha and now we are having it for dinner.

This is part of our Travel in Peru video series showcasing Peruvian food, Peruvian culture and Peruvian cuisine.

Exploring Iquitos in Peru & the Amazon Jungle

Iquitos is a Peruvian town, hidden deep in the Amazon Jungle. It is the largest town in the world not connected by road. You either go by boat for days on end or fly in.

I flew in and spend a week exploring the area, when the waters where at their highest. My Amazon Jungle accommodation was about to go under water.

Iquitos is a different place to the rest of Peru. Full of rickshaws and majestic crumbling colonial building. In this video I show Belén with their houses on stilts, and I visit Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm and the Manatee Rescue Centre.

I went on a 3 day trip into the Amazon Jungle to a part called Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Each day, we did a different activity, from visiting the local villages, attempting to hike in the sweltering jungle, feeding monkeys, seeing Sloths, trying exotic fruit and just relaxing in the hammocks.
