On Mona Island, a small unoccupied nature reserve off the west coast of Puerto Rico, you can clear your mind with the rhythmic sounds of the gentle waves and breathe in the freshest air. Often referred to as the Galapagos of the Caribbean, this breathtaking island is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and soaring limestone cliffs.

The Crazy Discovery at Isla Desecheo, maybe not so crazy in hind sight, but it relates to how many CRAZY things we have done to her and our environment in the last century!
I am devastated by the loss of 10's of 1,000's of seabirds which play a vital role in the life cycle of the ocean!
But, I am sickened by the way a mammal who shares 83% of our human DNA was treated! You will get that story in the next video and all my research links, so if you doubt my conclusions, you can do the work for yourself!
For now, enjoy the grandeur of Desecheo's rocky coast, caves, cliffs, mountains, and valley's!

Jay and I are both USCG Captains. We have sailed and raised our children through two separate lives before we met and fell in love! We brought our sailing dreams together and started Sail to Utopia Adventures and as a charter business for a brief time we shared our love of sailing with many new friends!
Jack is our 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier. He is an amazing sailing/boating/water dog. From ButterBall Kennels in Citra, Florida, he has been aboard since he was 8 weeks old. He loves a dinghy ride, sailing and swimming as much as he can!

Travel w/ me to ISLA MONA | Puerto Rico
Virtually Untouched by tourism. Isla Mona was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. There's no signal & no internet access at all. You are completely cut off from civilization for a while. It was incredible.

After Old San Juan, we went scuba diving with Taino Divers at Desecheo Island - an old military island and nature preserve near Rincon, Puerto Rico. We dove the Candy Land and Aquarium reefs/dive sites and met up with Lola - the Tax Collector. There was mounds of coral and lots of fish. Even better than the diving in Culebra. We also give a little Lionfish education and why those fish will deplete a reef of all the fish in just days.

Mona is a nearly deserted flat 10x7 miles remote island 50 miles from Puerto Rico. It has over 250K sq meters of caves and is a limestone plateau. The beach pictured is Pajaros beach.
On top of the plateau it feels like a war zone due to fractured rocks.
