Heritage Discovery | Ghana Cultural Tour

Journey to Ghana Cultural and Historic Tour

Priscilla, was always interested in her family genealogy. At family events she could be found drilling the oldest family members on the who is who of her family.  The stream of information dried up with her great-great-grandmother, Easter Roberts.

As an elementary schooler, Priscilla learned Easter Roberts was born a slave.  Records place her as a 7 year old girl and was then separated from her family.  Tragically, the paper trail history stops there.  Likely, she was from another plantation in the area.  Easter could remember a white lady bringing her to the plantation where she lived until she was emancipated.  The clear trail stops there.

Ultimately she wanted to trace her lineage back to Africa. When the paper history ended Priscilla picked up with DNA tracing. She started with a general DNA test to find relatives in the the US. That test also had some generalized regions tracing her lineage to Africa. Those results were still very broad.

This test started the germination of an idea idea to discover, face to face, the world of her ancestors in West Africa. A second DNA test for African ancestry, narrowed her heritage to Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. She decided to start her exploration of Africa in Ghana because of the 2019 Year of Return event.  This event is where President Ado (Ghana) invited African Americans to come to visit.

Yet a third DNA test finally allowed her to narrow the results of the first two tests. Priscilla Holmes was finally able to trace her DNA straight to the tribe of her maternal lineage.

Now, she is dreaming of tourism reopening and taking a group of like-minded travelers with her.  Maybe you match her lineage?  Maybe you should consider planning a heritage tour to Ghana.

Discovering Who She was, Lead her to dig into Ghana's PAST! her findings will shock you

In this video, we'll take a look at some of the amazing discoveries our cameras have been given access to film over the years at the Chistianborg castle. On site at an ongoing archaeological excavation at the castle, our cameras have captured some incredible moments in history.

Rachel and her team are unearthing new secrets and stories every day, and our cameras are there to document it all. Watch this video to see some of the best discoveries our cameras have made over the years!

Christianborg Castle!!!!!! Also known as Osu Castle, it is a seventeenth-century building located in Osu, a suburb of Accra, the capital of Ghana. Christiansborg Castle is a former seat of The Danish slave trading post, the British colonial government, and the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The castle has played an important role in the history of Ghana and West Africa. It was the site of the signing of several treaties between European powers and African chiefs, and it was also used as a prison and a slave dungeon.

Today, the castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world who come to learn about Ghana's history and culture.

In recent years, the castle has been the subject of controversy, as some Ghanaians have called for it to be demolished or repurposed due to its association with the transatlantic slave trade, slavery, and colonialism.

However, others argue that the castle is an important heritage site that should be preserved and used to educate people about Ghana's past.

Rachel Ama Asaa Engmann is one of those advocates…. She is a critical heritage scholar, practitioner, and direct descendant of Carl Gustav Engmann a Danish Governor in the 18th century, who married Ashiokai, a Ga chief’s daughter. Now for full access to excavations and artifacts, our cameras have been given unprecedented access to film the team revealing and making discoveries that could rewrite our history…..…..

Ghana - A Black History Lesson For You and Me - Kwame Nkrumah

As I post these pictures of the Ghanaian sites that we have visited, I want to make it clear that the history of the African or African American is not about shaming others regarding the acts of their forefathers! This is about telling the stories that have been suppressed and untold for fear of retaliation by a new generation! It's about the history of the African and understanding our ancestry and where we have evolved from. It's about fostering conversations and change for those of African decent and those of non-African decent.

There are many cultures, creeds and races that grow up being told of their history and many that live their history but the African has been in many ways denied their true history to even include their true family name.

I find nothing wrong in being proud of your culture and creed and understanding your history because you need to know where you have come from to have clear sight into where you are going and/or achieve to go.

Take these postings regarding the 2BusyNot2Travel journey in Ghana as education and catalyst for change and conversation. I can tell you first hand that this journey is one of great fulfillment, if you are open to it, no matter your culture, creed or race.
