Falling In Love In Banjul, Gambia ???????? You Won't Believe This! #Gambia,Africa Ep.6

Banjul is the capital city of the Gambia, a small West African country bordered by Senegal. The city sits on an island where the Gambia River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its colonial buildings include the National Museum, dedicated to Gambian culture and history. Vendors at the lively Albert Market sell colorful textiles and local produce. The city's main entrance is marked by the immense, columned Arch 22 gateway.

I am on a mission to visit 21 countries in 2021 telling the African story the African way. So far I have done 6 countries. 15 remaining.

Albert Market is in Banjul on Liberation Avenue and is the capital's main urban market. It was named after Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. It is essentially an emporium that is pungent, lively and bustling with a large selection of vividly designed fabrics, carved wooden masks and fresh produce which is packed to the brim. ???? Subscribe now with all notifications on to travel for free!

Whether you jet over to immerse yourself in The Gambia’s world-class birdwatching, its golden sandy beaches or its exhilarating culture and vibrant atmosphere, there’s always something ready to captivate holidaymakers visiting The Gambia for the first time. While it may be mainland Africa’s smallest country, The Gambia is big on attractions and appeal, promising to be one of most exciting and diverse destinations in the continent. One of my favourite corners of the continent is West Africa. The Gambia, in particular, is a popular holiday destination with the British thanks to its golden sandy beaches, year-round hot weather, colourful culture and friendly English speaking locals. It’s in the same time zone as we are too which is handy! For many years, I worked for a tour operator to West Africa, visiting regularly for over a decade, both for work and on holiday. While many tourists rarely leave the beach or the poolside, there are no end of things to do in The Gambia, even on a tight budget. It’s a fabulous place to explore.in this video, we are looking into Top 10 Places To Visit in The Gambia!

Inside the biggest market in Banjul, Gambia!! | Royal Albert Market | West African markets

Royal Albert Market is in Banjul on Liberation Avenue and is the capital's main urban market. It was named after Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. It is essentially an emporium that is pungent, lively and bustling with a large selection of vividly designed fabrics, carved wooden masks and fresh produce which is packed to the brim. All this is laid out within a labyrinth of alleys and hundreds of rickety stalls and purpose built shops. It is open from 8am to 7pm.

History:
The market used to be called the Colonial Engineer’s Yard and later re-named the Liberated African Yard. It stood on what used to be called Wellington St. which was later re-named Liberation Avenue.

Women shopping

Description:
Really there are 3 distinct markets here. The wholesale and retail market, that sells everything the local people could possible want, from clothes to hardware.

The produce market, selling fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and dried goods.

The tourist market and craft stalls, catering for the tourist trade, the size of it makes it impressive and there is plenty of choice.

You may get frustrated by the crowds and the jostling before you have seen it all, but you are only moments away from the river or the African Heritage Centre for a few moments to recover.

Top reasons to visit The Gambia, and not only ☀????

Why The Gambia?

And why not?

These are my favorite things to do in The Gambia!
Be amazed by these top places and experiences in The Gambia! iilluminaughtii

Think of long sandy beaches that are never overcrowded, a vibrant colorful culture, wonderful wildlife, and friendly English-speaking locals; there’s no end of reasons why you should consider a Gambia holiday.

The Gambia in West Africa is a fascinating place, and with no rain between November to the middle of June virtually guaranteed, and temperatures in the 30s, it is a fantastic winter sun destination. The coast has many lovely, long sandy beaches which are never over-crowded, even in the height of the season. And you’ll find it much cheaper than many other popular winter sun locations such as the Caribbean.

Are you visiting The Gambia for the first time? Here are some great things to do to ensure you get the most out of your holiday.

Take a bath in Sanyang Beach

There are many lovely sandy beaches in The Gambia, none of which ever get overcrowded and some with not another soul in sight. Sanyang, also known as Paradise Beach, is many people’s favorite....

Explore a Fishing Village

There are fish markets at Bakau, Tanji and Sanyang. These are colorful, vibrant places where you can watch the pirogues (fishing boats) come in and unload the day’s catch. ...

Don't miss a visit to Kunta Kinteh Island

Kunta Kinteh Island, formerly called James Island and St Andrew's Island, is an island in the Gambia River, 30 km from the Gambia River Barra. Fort James is located on the island. It is less than 3.2 km (2 miles) from Albreda on the river's northern bank.

Explore Banjul

A visit to The Gambia’s capital, Banjul, will add some history and culture to your African adventure.

Banjul is located on the island of Santa Maria, or Banjul Island, at the mouth of the Gambia River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The metropolitan area has about 460,000 inhabitants

Visit the Royal Albert Market and Serekunda market

Wind your way around the labyrinth of alleyways lined with ramshackle stalls as you explore the Royal Albert Market in The Gambia.

The tourist market selling clothes, jewelry, arts and crafts, is much like any other of the many markets dotted around the coastal tourist areas, aimed specifically at visitors to The Gambia.

Spend some days at Jynack Island

Jinack Island (also spelled Jinak or Ginak) is in the North Bank Region of the Lower Niumi District of The Gambia, in West Africa.

Get into Abuko Nature Reserve and Tanji Bird Reserve

Abuko Nature Reserve and Tanji Bird Reserve are located in the Kombo South District in the West Coast Region in the southwest coastal area of The Gambia in West Africa.

A walk along the beach at sunset

The sunsets in The Gambia can be spectacular. Being so near the equator the sun goes down very quickly around 7 pm (give or take half an hour).

THE GAMBIA: A country of ferries, rivers and mangroves // EPS. 6

From Senegal we drove to the Gambia - the smallest country on Africa's mainland that is dominated by the Gambia river. We took the slowest ferry ever, made new friends at the border (I included a little guide on how to cross borsers in Westafrica ;) ) and went on another ferry from the town Barra to Gambiad capital Banjul. On the way we stopped several times to soak in the atmosphere and fly the drone above the beautiful mangrove forest.

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.
Time of the journey: November 2019 to Feburary 2020

// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.
