Crazy Rich Asians Hawker Food GUIDE | Singapore

One of my favourite foodie moments in the film Crazy Rich Asians is that first scene in Singapore when they head out to the hawker / street food court. It's a lively scene packed with fun energy and dee-lish food. They eat laksa, satay, carrot cake, fresh crab, and more. So during my trip to Singapore this week, my friends Lisya, Zuzi, and Yazmin helped me recreate this scene from the movie, eating and drinking our way through a TON of food and ice cold beer ... at the exact food court from Crazy Rich Asians!
#crazyrichasians #singapore #travelvlogger

Crazy Rich Asians Hawker Food Guide:

I thought about trying a couple stalls for each food we tried but about 30% of the stalls were closed because it was a Monday so instead we just ate and drank and had FUN. For that reason, I'm not going to list every stall we ate at (but you can find it if you match up moments in the video like I did). For sure hunt down that beer stall we drank from though, it was crazy cold beer ;-)

- Newton Food Centre (or Newton Circus is what I understand the locals call it) is the name of the food court from Crazy Rich Asians

- Location on Google Maps

- Open daily from 12pm - 2am

The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Luxury Hotel - Crazy Rich Asians!!!

My review of The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Malaysia which is a luxury hotel under the Marriott portfolio of properties.

For reference, I am a Titanium Elite Marriott Bonvoy member.

If you didn’t know, a scene from the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” was filmed here at the Astor Bar!

I booked a Standard King Guest Room with a city view for 2 nights. However, as a Titanium Elite member I received a complimentary upgrade to The St. Regis Suite.

Check In was completed in my Suite – and not in the lobby area! You can watch a detailed video on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel.

The Suite is 98sm or 1,485 sq ft. It comes with a separate guest cloakroom and your own private treatment room!

I have dinner at The Brasserie, a French fine dining restaurant and also at the Astor Bar. I check out all the facilities and chat with the staff! Watch the video on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel.

My only concern is on the cost of food. On both evenings, I had dishes that were freshly made and chosen by the Chef(s) and thus, these dishes were not standard items of the menus, which could explain why the cost was higher than expected. You could alternatively order from an app like Grab or visit a restaurant nearby.

Overall, would I recommend this hotel? Definitely – YES! Great experience! Would I return? Definitely – YES!

Top 10 ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Movie Locations to Visit in Singapore

A travel guide to visit the 10 best ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ filming locations in Singapore. Crazy Rich Asians is a love letter to the food, culture and beauty of Singapore and in this video I’ll take you through the top attractions in Singapore that you saw in the movie. We’ll start with Changi Airport, one of the world’s best airports. When they land, Rachel comments that it “looks like an upscale tropical resort.” Changi Airport has a butterfly garden, koi fish ponds, and even a three story slide that you can ride!

2 - Newton Food Centre

Their first stop in Singapore. Nick Says: Each of these hawker stalls sells just one dish, and they have been perfecting it for generations. One of the only places in the world where street vendors win Michelen Stars.

3 - Marina Bay Sands
Probably the most famous location in the movie. One of the final scenes in the movie is shot on top of the 57th floor bar with the amazing infinity pool in the background.
4- Merlion
The Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion's head and the body of a fish that is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore. 1 million people per year visit the merlion.
5 - Singapore Flyer
Singapore’s tallest Ferris Wheel, and the 2nd biggest in the world.

6 - Raffles Hotel
Where they stayed, which opened in 1887. -- you too can stay here if you have 10,000 SGD per night for a suite. Under renovation until 2019. Sip a Singapore Sling in the bar where the gin-based cocktail. You can tell that Singapore is a foodie country that with 10 food and beverage spaces that represent more than 1,100 seats for just 115 suites, it can claim far more tables than beds

7 - Chinatown Bukit Pasoh Road
This picturesque street is lined with preserved Peranakan shophouses.

8 - CHIJMES
Across the road from Raffles, it’s a 19th-century gothic chapel turned into a function space is the location for the grand wedding.

9 - Sentosa Island
This small island is home to beaches, hotels, spas, and in Crazy Rich Asians, Nick retreated to his friend Collin’s house on Sentosa, and Rachel’s friend Peik Lin invited her to a spa on Sentosa.
10 - Gardens by the Bay

Probably my favorite attraction in Singapore -- the Gardens by the Bay is where the wedding reception was held, in front of the Supertree Grove. Come at 7:45 or 8:45pm for the music and light show on the Supertrees.

This Episode Features

Singapore street food tour MICHELIN Bib Gourmand 2022 edition, let’s GO! We only visited 9 out of 67 Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand 2022 spots but surely they are worth trying when you are planning your trip / travel to Singapore.

1) Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice at Maxwell Food Centre
One of the best Hainanese chicken rice we’ve ever eaten. If you are in Singapore, you need to try chicken rice which unofficially national dish of Singapore.

2) Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice at Chinatown Complex
Be prepared to wait for about 1 hour for this claypot rice. We suggest to order mixed rice that comes with chicken, pork sausage, salted fish

3) J2 Famous Crispy Curry Puff at Amoy Street Food Centre
S$1.80 for the crispy curry potato chicken puff, freshly cooked and it’s perfect for snack

4) Hong Kee Beef Noodle at Amoy Street Food Centre
Two options to choose soup or dry beef noodle. Whilst our preference is fully packed beefy noodle soup, this place serves clear and mild beef noodle soup.

5) A Noodle Story at Guoco Tower & Amoy Street Food Centre
From humble beginning in hawker centre stall at Amoy Street Food Centre, this Singaporean style ramen earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for 7 consecutive years.

6) Eminent Frog Porridge at Geylang
Well known spot to have frog even among local Singaporeans. Frog legs cooked in different sauces from Gong Bao (dried chili), Spring Onion, Chinese Essence, Chinese Herb Soup and paired with plain porridge. Both frog legs & plain porridge are cooked in claypot which make them so aromatic and super flavorful. We tried the Gong Bao with their promotion “buy 2 get 1 free” and did not regret it at all.

7) Tai Wah Pork Noodle at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre
Hong Lim hawker centre is conveniently located not far from Chinatown Singapore. Tai Wah pork noodle is famous for bak chor mee that translates to minced meat noodles. Egg noodle tossed in vinegar, soy sauce, minced meat, pork slices, pork meatball and lard.

8) Song Fa Bak Kut Teh
Bak Kut Teh means “meat bone tea” - basically pork rib dish cooked in broth of herbs and spices, known for health benefits. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh have many branches across Singapore and their broth is sweet peppery rather than herbal flavour.

9) Unagi Tei formerly known Man Man Japanese Unagi at Keong Saik Rd
One of the best unagi dish we have tried outside Japan. Unagi Tei is famous for hitsumabushi, Nagoya specialty dish.

We do a Se7en Bites trip report. This great restaurant is bakery offers a tasty and filling breakfast and has an impressive counter of pastries for anyone with a sweet tooth. Thanks to the friendly staff there for making our visit so enjoyable. Don’t leave without trying their mac and cheese! (6:30)

Market on South offers up vegan dishes, pastries and merchandise. We stopped here after Se7en Bites and grabbed a few things from the bakery to try. We were able to get our hands on a  Valkyrie doughnut there, as they supply doughnuts to the Valhalla Bakery. Listen in for the full report! (14:15)
