Dinant, Belgium 4K-HDR Walking Tour - 2021 - Tourister Tours
Dinant has an impressive environment, a river under impressive rocks. The village makes a pleasant excursion for a day trip, highlighted by a visit to the citadel of the cliff and a relaxing cruise (or more intense kayak trip) along the Meuse. It also has great beer (Dinant is the birthplace of the famous Leffe Abbey ale) and a fairly large amount of Sax - Adolphe Sax. The creator of the saxophone grew up in Dinant, and sculptures in the city center pay homage to his pioneering musical invention.

Dinant is a city in Belgium’s Walloon Region. It’s on the banks of the Meuse River and backed by steep cliffs. Dinant is one of the most beautiful little towns in Belgium. So if you are wondering if Dinant is worth visiting, my answer is yes, absolutely! It's a local's favorite and a great place for those looking to explore Belgium deeper and beyond the most popular tourist cities in Flanders.
Safe to say that Dinant is a city with sax appeal, as the birthplace of Adolphe Sax (1814-1894), the inventor of the saxophone. There are saxophone monuments all over town in his honour, including along the bridge on which Charles de Gaulle took a bullet in the leg in 1914.
Belgium has 3 official languages: Dutch, French, German and since Dinant is part of Walloon or Wallonia, locals here would be speaking in French.
Meuse River at Dinant, Belg. The Meuse River is navigable for most of its length and is one of the more important waterways of western Europe.
The Citadel of Dinant is a fortress located in the Walloon city of Dinant in the province of Namur, Belgium. The current fort was built in 1815 on a site which was originally fortified in 1051 when the region was ruled by the Prince-Bishopric of Liège.
The city suffered devastation again at the beginning of the First World War. On the 15 August 1914, French and German troops fought for the town in the Battle of Dinant, among the wounded was Lieut. Charles de Gaulle. On 23 August, 674 inhabitants were summarily executed by Saxon troops of the German Army — the biggest massacre committed by the Germans in 1914. Within a month, some five thousand Belgian and French civilians were killed by the Germans at numerous similar occasions.

On 10 May 1940, Germany invaded Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Belgium under the operational plan Fall Gelb (Case Yellow). ... The Belgian Army surrendered on 28 May 1940, ending the battle.

Explore the town of Dinant, Belgium
This summer we explored the town of Dinant Belgium – Saxophones, Leffe beer, and the Dinant citadel.
How to get there? It took 2 hrs and 20 minutes from the north of France to Dinant Belgium by car.
Upon arrival, you can see all the structure of the old buildings and some renovated along the river.
The first thing we did was, we took a cruise for sightseeing on the river Meuse. We paid €9 for the adult and €7 for kids 3years and up. Luckily my two sons are free! ????
It took 45 minutes for sightseeing. You will see all the rocks, called Rocher Bayard. There's a legend between the separation of the rock.
Along the river and the center of the city, there's an old Collégiale Notre Dame de Dinant that was built many centuries.
This was only a one day trip with my family and we didn't have a chance to stroll all over the town. But I'm glad I've been in the city where the inventor of saxophone lives before.

Dinant Belgium // Family Day Trip
Dinant, Belgium has been on oir bucket list because it is so beautiful and unique. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to see everything and not feel overwhelmed or tired from too much walking. This trip we stopped at a highly rated restaurant (the VIEWS ????), enjoyed the amazing scenery, checked out the Charles de Gaulle Bridge with the amazing saxophones, toured Notre Dame de Dinant, and experienced the cable cars up to the citadel. Plus tried some Dinant -only specialties. Seriously, this is a must visit city here in Belgium.

A quoi ressemble La citadelle de Dinant ? #travellersfrombelgium
La citadelle de Dinant a été édifiée en 1818, sur l'emplacement d'un fort démantelé construit par Vauban sur le site d'un ancien château fort construit en 1051 par le prince-évêque de Liège, Théoduin.
Située à l'aplomb de la cité dinantaise, la citadelle offre une vue sur la Meuse qui la borde. Un téléphérique permet d'accéder à la citadelle, située 100 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la Meuse.
La visite de la citadelle inclut notamment un espace relatif à la Première Guerre mondiale, une simulation de tranchée et d'un abri de tranché effondré, un point de vue depuis le piton rocheux, les cachots, des scènes de la vie dans la citadelle au début du xixe siècle (boulangerie, chambrée, etc.)
