Walking the short but challenging Dianella fitness & hiking trail to Castle Hill's summit and lookouts in Townsville Tropical North Queensland Australia.
The Dianella Track is one of the most challenging of the 15th trails to the summit. Starting at the end of Church Street in West End, behind the old West End Cemetery, it takes you near the top of Castle Hill.
It is largely straight up with a 286m (936ft) elevation gain in 800m (0.5mi) and requires you to climb a couple of large boulders near the start, and then approximately 1000+ stairs to Castle Hill road + 250m to the summit.
The Summit Loop Track is an easy 260m (850ft) walking trail that takes you around the radar building and provides views out to Hervey Range and also 360-degree views of Townsville and its surroundings. The best views are at sunset. It is a popular spot with photographers, fitness enthusiasts and tourists alike.

Today I am Walking up Picturesque Castle Hill in Townsville, it is such a great pastime and beautiful this time of year.
The walk on Castle Hill is uphill from the moment you leave your car, challenging yet a very popular hike with people of all ages and fitness levels that are trying to get to the top.
On this occasion I got just over half-way.
Today's walking conditions? Hot and Humid...Phew!

The beautiful cascading Millaa Millaa Falls on the Atherton Tablelands are magnificent waterfalls in Tropical North Queensland.
Surrounded by lush rainforest, and located on the Waterfalls Circuit along with Zillie and Ellinjaa Falls, the falls cascade perfectly to a pristine waterhole below where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool water.
There’s also a lovely grassy picnic area for anyone to relax. Millaa Millaa Falls are one of the most photographed in Australia.

Afternoon Hike to the Castle Hill Lookout - Townsville - Tropical Queensland #townsvilleshines
Today, we are taking you on an afternoon hike to the Castle Hill Lookout in Townsville, Tropical Queensland, via one of the many trails that will get you to the top of Castle Hill.
Research reveals that there are in fact 15 tracks to the top; one is even called the 'Widow Maker'! But, Castle Hill Road (5.2km return), Cudtheringa (2.5km return), and Goat Tracks (1.6km return) are the most popular. An average of 2,500 transverse the hill at a walk, run, or cycle on a daily basis, plus dogs and pushchairs. All the tracks are well worn and easily identified.
As well as offering an iconic centrepiece for the city and spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. The Hill's vantage was used by visiting American soldiers during World War II.

Townsville Castle Hill, Queensland, Australia
Just metres short of a mountain, Castle Hill is the giant pink granite monolith that stands proud in the centre of Townsville - a perfect place for visitors to orientate themselves. Castle Hill offers vehicle access as well as a number of popular walking tracks, which are frequented by more than 2,500 locals a day! The 360-degree views of Townsville at the top are well worth the journey. Be sure to have a camera on hand, particularly for sunrise or sunset as these are photo opportunities that shouldn't be missed.
Apart from being an iconic centrepiece for the city and a lookout for spectacular scenic views, Castle Hill has a significant history. The Hill's vantage was used by visiting American soldiers during World War II. According to local legend, the visitors famously offered to demolish the hill and use the rock to build a bridge to Magnetic Island. A World War II observation bunker sits on one corner of the Hill reminding visitors of Castle Hill's military history.
Castle Hill facilities include car parking, public amenities, drink fountains and shaded seating to enjoy while taking in some of the best views of the city and across to Magnetic Island.

DAY 11 - TOWNSVILLE pt 2 - CLIMBING CASTLE HILL & STREET ART TRAIL | Road Trip Australia
Day 11 - 12th September 2017
We started day 2 in Townsville by a surprisingly exhausting climb up castle hill to the lookout, but we were rewarded with 360 degree views of Townsville and the surrounding area.
We also checked out the street art trail, and found a piano along the way. Finally we went for a dip in the rock pool to finish off the day...

Hi this is Aussie Walker Thank you for watching the video.
It's another hot day, walking up Castle Hill Road approximately 13:00 in the afternoon, Friday 22 January 2021. This video starts from the 1500 metre mark as when I attempted it previously I could only get to this mark.
It can be a strenuous walk although there is lots of greenery!

Malanda Falls on the Atherton Tablelands plateau is part of the Tropical North Queensland region of Australia.
Situated on the North Johnstone River the perennial Malanda Falls tumble
over basalt rock that was formed by an ancient lava flow. The park has a cascade with its own pool, 2 rainforest walkways and a glorious picnic spot.
While many of the waterfalls in the area are off the beaten track, Malanda Falls are right by the main road and super easy to get to.
