Crispy Clay Pot Rice: Hong Kong’s Ultimate Comfort Food

Clay pot rice is a classic Cantonese dish often enjoyed in the winter. The name refers to the way it’s cooked—with rice, meat, and vegetables all heated inside a clay pot.

We went to Hing Kee, a restaurant in Hong Kong that’s been serving hearty bowls of clay pot rice since the 1980s, to see how it’s made.

Shop address: 2-14 Temple St, Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong

0:53 What is clay pot rice?

SPICY Korean Tofu Soup Village in Gangneung (ft. Heyitsfeiii)

Today we're trying different kinds of soondubu jjigae (순두부찌개) at Tofu Soup Village in Gangneung! Located on the east coast of South Korea, we explore this yummy street filled with tofu, tofu and more tofu. SO MANY OPTIONS! We first check out the passionately spicy soondubu stew at Yechon Yukgyejang Soondubu (예촌 육개장 순두부). While scouting for a second restaurant, we come across Gangneung Jjambbong Soondubu Donghwa Garden (강릉 짬뽕순두부 동화가든). We get a taste of their Korean Chinese Spicy Soup with Tofu, which is earthy. How do the stews compare? Watch the video to find out :)

It's getting colder here in Sydney and what better time to have hot pot?! It's actually so easy to cook hot pot at home; well not cook because there's barely anything to cook. All you gotta do is buy all the right ingredients, get a good soup base, get a good pot for hot pot and you're off to the races.

Now what you put in this pot is really completely up to you, but here's'a list of my go-to whenever i have Chinese Hot Pot at home.

Things I always buy when i have Chinese Hot Pot at Home:
0. Soup Base
1. Meats: Fatty Beef, Pork & Ox Tongue
2. Fish balls, Beef balls, Pork balls
3. Fish paste
4. Tofu & Fried Tofu
5. Veggies: Corn, watercress, chinese lettuce, Tong Ho, Raddish, Enoki Mushrooms
6. Noodles: Udon is my preference
7. Frozen Wontons
8. Hot Pot Sauces: Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil, chopped garlic, chopped spring onions, chili garlic, satay sauce.

My go-to sauce mix is 1 part soy sauce, 1 part sesame oil, 1 tsp chopped garlic, 1 tsp spring onions.

Hot Pot Drinks of choice:
Now i think having a drink is a necessity when you have hot pot - beers, sugar cane juice, aloe vera, soft drink. just drink whatever you want.

We Made Cantonese Rice Noodle Rolls From Scratch - Eat China (S1E4)

Steamed rice noodle rolls, or cheung fan, are a staple of the dim sum table, but they’re also tricky to make. We went to dim sum school in Hong Kong to learn the basics.

We also found a cheung fan shop that grinds its own rice flour fresh, every day, using a traditional stone mill.

This is the fourth episode of our 13-part series on Chinese food called Eat China. In the next episode, we’re moving onto the spicy southwest to try the cuisine of Sichuan. Stay tuned!

Chinese food. Chinese street food. I love you. The cuisine I sampled in the last year living in China was unreal. I've combined my top 5 Chinese food picks into one video. I mostly eat Sichuan food, so there may be some bias, but believe me, the food I ate this year, whether Chinese street food or Chinese market food or eating at nice Chinese restaurants, I've narrowed down into 5 delicious picks for you!

The addresses will be updated on this video soon:

Number 5:
On the paper fish - 纸上烤鱼 Zhi shang kaoyu
This is a grilled fish on the paper, so that there is no charring of any ingredients and all the flavours of the spicy and garlicky broth are soaked into the fish. You also order additional ingredients, like eggs, lotus root, tofu, potato, cilantro, and greens. I ate this one in Chengdu. It's a great Chengdu food to try.

Number 4 - Leshan duck - 甜皮鸭 Tian pi ya
This is the famous Leshan sweet skinned duck. It's stewed in ginger, onions, sugar, salt, star anise, Sichuan peppercorn, cinnamon, fennel, cloves, and cardamom. It's super easy and this is one of my favourite ducks in all of China.

Number 3 - Firewood Chicken - 柴火鸡 Chaihuoji
This was truly a magical experience. A whole chicken is chopped up and put into a wok heated by wood fire. It's boiled in a wok full of Sichuan broad bean paste and dried chilies, making it super spicy, juicy, and salty. The wok is full of other vegetable ingredients that you personally order. I ordered potatoes to keep it classic. The best part of the whole meal is when they take a dough and place it on the side of the wok and put the lid over it, making these gooey and sticky and crispy on the outside. So satisfying. Another great Sichuan food to try in Chengdu.

Number 2 -Xinjiang food
Xinjiang food is a huge culinary world that I can't say I've fully sampled. But what I did try in Urumqi was amazing. I had a meal at a traditional Xinjiang restaurant that was 3 main Xinjiang foods: Pumpkin and Lamb steamed buns, Xinjiang Lamb Kebabs, and A lamb and onion and black pepper rounang stuffed bread.

Number 1 - Tibetan food- Xizang cai
I tried this food at the four girls mountain range in Western Sichuan. This meal was so so satisfying and really rich and heavy. It consisted of spicy yak meat, fresh local potatoes, fresh local first growth forest hand picked greens fried up in a wok with yak butter, fresh tibetan butter tea, and blood sausage. Yet the best part of this meal was eating with the local people of the area. They were so welcoming and friendly and it really felt like a once in a lifetime experience to just sit down and chat with them in their little living room heated by a wood stove in the coldest part of the winter. What a try experience!

Was there something that you think I should have put in this list? What would you like to try most? What are your thoughts about this video? Leave me a comment below about anything, I love hearing from you!

Sapporo is famous for seafood. It has the best seafood in Japan. It is unbelievably fresh! There are 2 morning seafood markets to visit and both are FULL of delicious seafood.

This seafood tour video was filmed in 2 seafood street food markets, the Chuo Ichiba crab market, and the Nijo Ichiba seafood market. Both have a huge amount of fresh seafood and Japanese street food and snacks to try! This is true Hokkaido food!

First up, we're going on a morning adventure to try some of the best and freshest crab and seafood in the world! Starting out at the Chuo Ichiba crab market, we're grabbing a HUGE Hanasaki SPIKY crab, a big KING crab, and a seasonal hairy crab as well. They are FRESH and ALIVE, and you can choose what you like! We also picked up some salmon eggs!

Then, we bring all the seafood to BiBiBi restaurant just down the street and have a FEAST! This is where we meet chef Akira and get invited inside his kitchen to watch the traditional seafood Japanese recipes! He boils them and serves them straight up as is! The crab meat was some of the juiciest I've ever had! He also showed us how to make squid sashimi! The squid sashimi was delicious!

Seafood Restaurant Name: BibiBi Restaurant
Address: 21 Chome-1-1 Kita 11 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0011, Japan

After this, we're going to the Nijo Market in Sapporo to go for a SAPPORO Seafood Market Tour! Here, you can find all varieties of Japanese seafood! First, we try some sea urchin and salmon roe ikura don! A famous specialty in Sapporo, the kaisen don chirashi bowl is one of the best street foods to try! Usually served in local markets like this one, going for a bowl is a great way to start your day! Uni is an AMAZING flavour you need to try! I also ordered a delicious bowl of crab miso soup!

Shop Name: Nagamori
Address: Inside Nijo Seafood Market

Next up, we're going for a SUSHI boat! Actually, a sashimi boat! We found a small sushi bar in the Nijo Seafood market serving up delicious fish sashimi and the best sushi in sapporo. I ordered the fatty toro tuna, salmon, salmon roe ikura, sea urchin uni, and a lot more! It was incredibly delicious!

Sashimi Boat restaurant: Oguma Shoten
Address: Nijo Fish Market, Chuo, Sapporo, Hokkaido

And to finish our street food tour of Sapporo, we're going for a king crab hot pot! Here, a rich miso crab stock is boiled and combined with nice big snow crab legs! It's served with crab tempura as well! Delicious!

Shop Name: Sapporo Kani Kobo
Address: 1 Chome Minami 2 Johigashi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo,

Street Food in Malaysia - ULTIMATE MALAYSIAN FOOD in Kuala Lumpur!

Thanks to Oh My Media:
Subscribe for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:

Huge thank you to Fadhlur for reaching out and taking us on a Malaysian street food tour of Kuala Lumpur. It was an amazing day, and I have so much love to Malaysia as it was one of the first countries where I started making street food videos - as you’ll see in the video!

Ok, here are all the street food stalls and restaurants we ate at on this tour:

Mansion Tea Stall
The thing to order here is the roti canai special, roti that chopped up, then doused in a variety of curry sauces, sambal, and a few soft boiled eggs. It’s a perfect way to begin your day in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 2.80 RM ($0.68) per plate

Nasi Lemak Tanglin
Nasi lemak is often considered the national food of Malaysia, and there are plenty of places to eat it throughout Kuala Lumpur. Having been around since 1948, Nasi Lemak Tanglin is a place I had wanted to go for a while. It was overall very good, with a nice laid back atmosphere and surrounded by nature. Nasi lemak - about 8 RM ($1.94) per plate

Ikan Bakar Seri Melaka (Jalan Bellamy)
One of my favorite places to eat ikan bakar, grilled fish, is on Jalan Bellamy. Back in 2012, I had to hike over a highway and climb a few fences to get there as I was only on foot. In this video, I’m a bit older, and we had a car! The ikan bakar was just as good as I remember it. Total price - 68 RM ($16.51) for everything

Sri Ganapathi Mess
One of the best things about Malaysian food is its incredible diversity, including Malay, Chinese, and Indian food. Banana leaf south Indian food is very popular and I was recommended to try Sri Ganapathi Mess, a restaurant tucked away into a home. An amazing south Indian food experience in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 59 RM ($14.32) for 4 people

Kedai Kopi Lai Foong
Finally, another dish that many had recommended me was the unique clam noodles in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown at the legendary Kedai Kopi Lai Foong. It was delicious, and a perfect way to end an amazing Malaysian street food tour in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 10 RM ($2.43) per bowl

Again, thank you to Oh My Media Malaysia for taking us around:

NIGHT MARKET FOOD in Manila Philippines: BBQ & BLOOD STEW

My last night in Manila Philippines and I really wanted to try out one of the local popular night market for some night time eats. One of my local friends suggested Central Mercado a wonderfully vibrant night market in the heart of Manila.

The night market first of all, smelled incredible. From the roasted meat skewers to the refreshing local drinks, there was something for everyone at this night market.

Having filled up on great eats at this night market, I proceeded to a local restaurant that many locals recommended for a taste of Dinuguan which is essentially pork blood stew with organ meat inside.

????ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.

If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

Chinese Tofu, Tofu dishes, Chinese snacks, Xi'an Street Food, what to eat on China travel

Tofu is the main ingredient in many Chinese dishes. Tofu as a product didn't really take off from the start. Through centuries of development has gradually been welcomed by people and has become a vegetarian dish loved by all Chinese. Tofu can be produced all year round and is not subject to seasonal restrictions. Therefore, in the off-season of vegetable production, dishes can be made more delicious by adding tofu. Many Xi'an street food delicacies are made from tofu. Welcome to Xi'an to taste tofu and many more yummy snacks.
