Helsinki not only showed us the best and most interesting Christmas parade ever seen (watch to find out why we’re advocating for dogs to lead every parade now), but it also has a fantastic Christmas market, and posh yet charmingly decorated streets and store windows (like the famous Stockmann store windows) in the heart of it all. It may be *below* freezing, but our hearts are warm with Christmas cheer. ????????????

First Time in Finland | 48 Hours in Helsinki

We have arrived in Finland for the very first time and we are so excited to kick start our winter Christmas European getaway with 48 hours right here in Helsinki!

Day 1 of Jess epic European Christmas she has dreamt of as a kid begins with hot chocolates, roasting sausages by the fire in a red traditional hut.

Next up we needed to try a Finnish tradition - their Finnish spa experience of getting warmed up in a sauna and then jumping into icy cold water (don't ask me why they do it!)

We then attempted to find some Christmas markets (we were a tad early) so we resorted to some hot Glögi before calling it a night.

The next day we went to market square to try some warm creamy salmon soup, headed to Christmas street -

The first Christmas market after Covid pandemic. The market opens from 11am to 7pm. This year, the Christmas market is extremely crowded with tourists all over the world!
Best time to visit is during the weekdays definitely. Prettiest time to visit the market is from 3pm - 4pm as the sun would set at that time. The Christmas vibe and lights from the market are the best during sunset.

Helsinki is the Capital City of Finland.
It is located in the Southern part of Finland.

Time of the filming was November. Snow has just come to Helsinki.
Usually at December-Febryary time there is snow in Helsinki, Finland.

As you can see on this video, the sea has not yet frozen so the winter is still coming.
Normally the sea is frozen at least some point of the winter.
(Nice to know, that you can still go to the Suomenlinna, Sea Fortress/Island, in the wintertime also, because, they will break the ice.)

(If you want see more snow go to Lappland. Lappland is located in the Northern part of Finland. In the Lappland there is much more snow, because it is more North and there is much colder in the winter time and the cold period is also longer.)

HOW TO GET THERE?
Helsinki is the Capital City Of Finland. From Helsinki Airport you can get easily to the Helsinki Center (Helsinki Central Railway Station) with train I or P.
