Death Valley is home to North America's driest and hottest spot (with fewer than two inches of rain per year and a record high of 134°F). The ULTIMATE 3 days in DEATH VALLEY National Park!

Death Valley National Park is the largest national park outside of Alaska, with over 3 million acres to explore. And in our opinion, it is one of the most unique and diverse national parks in the United States! We spent 3 days trying to see as much of the park’s highlights as we could and had a blast!

A few things we forgot to mention in this video that may be helpful for your planning:
-There is hardly any cell service in the park, so download offline Google Maps and AllTrails maps in advance. We got a little bit of service near the Furnace Creek Visitor Center and had great Verizon LTE at Dante's View!
-Fuel up beforehand! If you think gas prices are bad where you are, just wait until you see the prices in Death Valley ???? (Beatty, NV had more normal gas prices at the time of our visit)
-There is a max vehicle length of 25 feet for Dante’s View and the Artist Palette Drive.

Death Valley National Park Road Trip - How You DON'T Want It To End

Death Valley National Park Road Trip

If you're not a big fan of the heat, but want to know what it's like inside Death Valley, this Death Valley tour video might help. This is the road trip my friend and I took just before summer.

--

Death Valley is one of the hottest places in the world. It’s also a short 4 hour drive away from Los Angeles. With summer approaching, I wanted to take a road trip out to Death Valley before it got too hot.

My friend Bobby went with me. Neither of us had been, yet. We were only there two days yet I’d say we did learn how to road trip Death Valley successfully by failing at a few things first.

Here are some basic tips to get you started:

Bring a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water. And make sure you are 100% confident in whatever car you are taking out there. The conditions are rough. There’s virtually no cell phone service and no relief from the sun if you get stranded. Also, Death Valley camping is a thing, but I suggesting you know what you're doing. Because we wanted to make things simple, we just stayed in a motel in Beatty, right outside the park.

As I said, we planned on making this road trip to Death Valley a simple one, but it turned out to be the opposite of that because of car trouble. I had to get my car towed. I’ll let the video explain that.

Here are some more tips if you’re traveling to Death Valley:

What to see when visiting Death Valley:
-Father Crowley Vista
-Rhyolite Ghost Town
-Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
-Badwater Basin
-Devil’s Golf Course
-Artist’s Drive
-Artist’s Palette
-Zabriskie Point (I don't know for certain, but this seemed to be a popular Las Vegas to Death Valley tour route destination. It was super crowded with lots of tour buses and people pouring out.)
-Dante’s View

My favorites:
Badwater Basin, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Artist’s Drive/Palette
Devil’s Golf Course was pretty cool too. But mainly just because it’s fun to walk on. It’s razor sharp though.

Also, If you road trip Death Valley, consider the car you bring because there are certain roads that are only good for high clearance vehicles. Most of top sights are all accessible via paved roads, but there are a few (like the Race Track) that aren’t.

Where to stay in Death Valley:
We stayed overnight in a town called Beatty. It’s right outside the east edge of Death Valley and much cheaper. There are also some town-like areas (used town very loosely) inside the park with hotels, cottages, and camp grounds. Consider staying in Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, or Panamint Springs. If you're looking for hotels near Death Valley, you don't have many options. I'd say Lone Pine to the west and Beatty to the east are your best options. Death Valley camping sites can be found all over the park. But again, make sure you know what you're doing and go in a cooler month.

We went in May to beat the heat, but it didn’t work. Death Valley weather is crazy. It was 110 and 111 the days we were there. The week before the weather was in the 90’s. The NP website actually says May is usually when it starts getting too hot for visitors.

I hope you enjoy watching our Death Valley tour via video. It was definitely quite the experience.

Death Valley Summer Road Trip with my Dad

Death Valley National Park is a desolate place with a sparse desert landscape that takes a while to fully appreciate. After exploring Highway 395 over two days, we decided to drive back to Southern California and take an excursion to Death Valley on the way. This was a long day in the heat of summer, but I wanted to see what the park was like in the summer and show my dad some of my favorite spots. Be sure you prepare if you want to visit the park like this with lots of water and all of your hiking early in the day.

Death Valley Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Death Valley.
It is particularly during the hot summer months that Death Valley does full justice to its name. On some days the temperatures can reach up to forty-five degrees Celsius in the shade! Geographically Death Valley is a truly remarkable national park and Badwater is the deepest point in the entire western hemisphere. The shiny blue sky and impressive Sierra Nevada Mountain Range are two magnificent and colourful features of California's seemingly lifeless desert. The area around Badwater is studded with salt crystals. Its salt lake almost completely dries out during the summer due to the scorching heat. The bottom of the valley and the rocky slopes of the Panamint Mountains heat up the subsoil where temperatures of up to ninety degrees are quite common. The bizarre landscape of the mysterious Devil's Cornfield really does seem to have been scorched by the heat of another planet but it is actually the relatively high salt content of the terrain that is responsible for its strange and desolate landscape. Death Valley is indeed a hot property!

Death Valley Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about nature park Death Valley in the USA.
Situated in the USA, Death Valley derived its name during the gold rush that took place between 1848 and 1849, a time when hordes of pioneers journeyed to the west full of hope but where, in the seemingly never ending and merciless hot desert valleys, many frequently lost their cattle, their wagons and some even lost their lives. During the summer months the temperatures in Death Valley often exceed 45 degrees Celcius.A closer look confirms that Death Valley is an arid, desolate desert valley in which any visit should be treated with respect as the severe, unforgiving heat can prove fatal to those who travel unprepared. Badwater is the deepest point in the western hemisphere and is located 86 metres below sea level. The area that contains the so called ‘bad water’ is on the border of a wide salt lake of which the water content is tantamount to a small pool. In a wide valley close to Badwater in the region of the Panamint Mountains, there’s a further major attraction, The Devil´s Golf Course on which bizarre crystal formations cover large areas of a dried out ocean. Around 1000 A.D. the ancestors of the Shoshone Indians settled in this region, their largest village having been located at what is known today as Furnace Creek. One of the most famous and certainly most photographed areas in Death Valley is the hill range of Zabriskie Point, undoubtedly the most beautiful and spectacular observation point in the unique rock and desert landscape of South West California. Scotty´s Castle was the inspiration of two men from Chicago, an insurance millionaire named Albert Johnson and a legendary gold digger, Walter Scott. During the 1920s they built a magnificent hacienda that cost over 1.5 million dollars and today it provides an atmospheric impression of the realisation of an incredible dream. Even today, the timeless and breathtaking scenery of Death Valley continues to turn the famous myths and legends of the ‘Wild West’ into amazing reality.

We have enjoyed Death Valley National Park several times in the last few years and can't wait to get back there each time we leave! The times of year that we think are best to visit are Spring (March-April) and December. Depending on what your goals for your vacation are, each time of year will be good. When traveling to Death Valley the most important thing is to have enough water. Even in the Winter, this is still a desert and still gets warm during the day.
When we visited, we stayed at Furnace Creek Ranch (Oasis at Death Valley). We also enjoyed a few meals at the restaurant at Stovepipe Wells.
