Deadliest Journeys - Cameroon, Birds and Lizards

In Cameroon, only 2% of the roads have been asphalted. All of the country's inhabitants rely on the Clandos' taxi services, they have no other choice. The country has no railway and taking airplanes is both too expensive and too dangerous.

00:00 Cameroon's bravest drivers are known as Clandos. They're illegal cabs, and they're the only ones allowed to drive on Cameroon's entire road network, one of the worst on the African continent.

06:20 Thanks to this, they have a stranglehold on transport in Cameroon, despite the government's best efforts.
00:20 Some routes cross the territory of the Pygmies, a people of Central Africa.
17:30 When goods transports have accidents, villagers loot the cargo
19:18 The loaders in the basalt mines work until they're exhausted, and even the children there have to work in the quarries to go to school.
23:49 With the limited means available, the Clandos are forced to drive with cars fit for the scrap heap.
29:59 Overloaded vans are also subject to road problems.
35:35 Mireille works for an NGO trying to preserve the Pygmé people who live close to nature in the equatorial forests.
41:33 Some mountain towns are inaccessible during the rainy season.
49:02 Even the region's capital has become a ghost town as the population flees.

Deadliest Journeys - Tanzania: Race for Life

Lake Tannganyika in Tanzania, East Africa, is the biggest in the world, and is remarkably beautiful. The Tanzanians have two options to cross it: 20 hours on a pickup truck on a road riddled with potholes or 3 days of sailing on the oldest cargo ship in the world, the LIEMBA. On track, traders try to reach the market but torrential rain disrupts the route. The captain struggles to maintain order.

Deadliest Journeys - Tajikistan - Cold Fever

Tajikistan is the poorest country in Central Asia. To travel through this region made up of 93% of mountains, you have to take the Pamir Highway, the second highest highway in the world. A mythical road built by the Soviets to open up the Pamir region and subject it to the rule of the Empire. A daring journey suspended between earth and sky on what the Tajiks call the “roof of the world”. But since the Russians left in 1991, the road has not been maintained. The Pamir Highway is the route of all dangers: Rock falls, landslides, fords ... 900 kilometers on the side of the ravine. Mechanics and people are put to the test, especially in winter when extreme temperatures freeze the engines. Gheyrat, the hero of this adventure, must improvise with the means at hand to deliver his goods and above all stay alive.

The WORST Train in AFRICA!

I was in the region of Kigoma and head to get back to Dar Es Salaam so I had two options...book a very expensive flight or get the train. So of course I took the train however it turned out to be one of the worst journeys of my life. I left Kigoma several hours late due to delays and then arrived in Dodoma 27 hours later

World's Most Dangerous Roads: Philippines

The headhunters road Kalinga in filipino is aptly named even if the region's heads haven't been rolling for a long time. It said the spirits of the mountains still have a taste for them when it comes to cutting the road.
Christopher and his men face the same struggle against the mountain every day. Their job is to remove the thousands of cubic meters of rocks blocking the road in record time.
Further down the valley lies the town of Bontoc. It is neither Airport nor railway station, so the road is vital for its 15,000 inhabitants. If the Kalinga is blocked, the entire region is paralyzed and even the bone snake charms are powerless.
Bus 532 with 20 years of service is about to leave for one of the most dangerous roads in the Philippines: the Kalinga on the island of Luzon. It relays Bontoc to the regional capital of Tabuk to the north through the Cordillera mountains. A Tough road under construction for nearly a century, but which still resembles a track. It takes almost a day if all goes well to travel.

THE KAKAMEGA CRYING STONE - ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.

At the top of a hill three kilometers south of Kakamega town stands the mysterious Crying Stone of Ilesi, a clearly visible landmark on the left of the highway as one drives towards Kisumu.

My recording gear:

The rock formation resembles a solemn head falling on weary shoulders. From its top, ‘tears’ flow down the length of the column, about 40 metres long.
For outsiders, it is a tourist attraction. for the Luhya Community living around it, it is a Cultural and Spiritual heritage. Myths surround the crying stone found in Ilesi, Kakamega and legend has it that the large rock cannot stop crying. but as is, the stone isn’t crying and it’s much harder to see and those who care for its heritage hope that its replica will keep people from forgetting it.

Join me as I visit the mysterious sacred 'Crying Stone of Ilesi' in Kakamega, Kenya. Resembling a gowned figure shedding tears from head to toe, it is said to bring blessings.

An exciting adventure of the famous Ilesi crying stone in Kakamega County

Legend has it that the ‘tears’ never stop flowing, but the mystic stone was dry when i took a visit , although it was stained a dark green colour from the many years of ‘weeping’. For anyone at the foot of this phenomenon, the most striking feature is that it resembles a gowned figure, perpetually in tears flowing from ‘head to toe’ — an image spiced-up by myth and folkfore.

It is simply another tourist attraction within the Western Kenya tourism circuit. And to scientists, it is a formation consisting of a large boulder balanced on a column of rock with water flowing from a groove in the middle. Indeed, geologists describe it as an acid plutonic rock consisting mainly of quartz, alkali, feldspar and mica.

However, the stone is held dear and is of great cultural and spiritual importance to the Luhya community and the Isukha sub-tribe in particular. The Isukha live around the rock’s formation.

The community has resisted the take-over of the crying stone by the Government or private developers who would like to build a resort in the area.

Villagers say when the stone cries, it is a good omen, signalling a bumper harvest. When there is drought, the community carries out rituals here to persuade the gods to bring rain. Other rituals are performed to allay disasters. The main legend is that the stone ‘cries’ when it has not rained in Kenya,

Speaking when he welcomed delegates to the ongoing 5th Devolution Conference hosted in his area, Oparanya said the historic Crying Stone had stopped 'crying' after the Kakamega county goverment ordered it to do so.

The county boss, however, noted that the landmark monument would 'cry' if visitors spend some time at the site.

Kakamega county is home to the Crying Stone which has been crying for years but we told it to stop crying. But if you visit, it will cry after five minutes, Oparanya said, leaving the audience in stitches.

The 40 metres long mystic stone resembles a solemn head falling on weary shoulders. From its top, ‘tears’ flow down the length of the column.

People in Western Kenya believes that when the stone cries it is sign that good things are about to happen.

However, during the rainy season stops to weep and only resumes to drop tears during the dry season.

The Crying Stone of Ilesi, which is a major tourist attraction site, is held dear and is of great cultural and spiritual importance to the Luhya community.

Kontrola drogowa - Elektrycznym autem przez Afrykę | Odc. 5 | Gabon, Kamerun, Nigeria

Pod PRĄD. Elektrycznym autem przez Afrykę. Odcinek 5 - Kontrola drogowa.
Książka:

Film ten jest zapisem wyprawy Electric Explorer African Challenge 2018 i pierwszej w historii próby przejechania wzdłuż kontynentu afrykańskiego samochodem w 100% elektrycznym. W podróży towarzyszył mi klasyczny nissan Leaf pierwszej generacji z baterią o pojemności 30 kWh. Dzisiaj podobna wyprawa, przy użyciu współczesnego auta elektrycznego miałaby zupełnie inny charakter i przebieg.
