Deadliest Journeys - Cameroon, Birds and Lizards

In Cameroon, only 2% of the roads have been asphalted. All of the country's inhabitants rely on the Clandos' taxi services, they have no other choice. The country has no railway and taking airplanes is both too expensive and too dangerous.

00:00 Cameroon's bravest drivers are known as Clandos. They're illegal cabs, and they're the only ones allowed to drive on Cameroon's entire road network, one of the worst on the African continent.

06:20 Thanks to this, they have a stranglehold on transport in Cameroon, despite the government's best efforts.
00:20 Some routes cross the territory of the Pygmies, a people of Central Africa.
17:30 When goods transports have accidents, villagers loot the cargo
19:18 The loaders in the basalt mines work until they're exhausted, and even the children there have to work in the quarries to go to school.
23:49 With the limited means available, the Clandos are forced to drive with cars fit for the scrap heap.
29:59 Overloaded vans are also subject to road problems.
35:35 Mireille works for an NGO trying to preserve the Pygmé people who live close to nature in the equatorial forests.
41:33 Some mountain towns are inaccessible during the rainy season.
49:02 Even the region's capital has become a ghost town as the population flees.

Witness the Mysterious World of West African Voodoo

Togo is a tiny nation in West Africa that contains the region’s largest Voodoo market. The ‘Marche des Fetches’ contains a cornucopia of Voodoo items including animals in various states of decay, shrunken leopard heads, dried owls, powdered chameleon and even human skulls. These are the ingredients used by voodoo priests to concoct the perfect cure to your ailment.

Cuban Santeria: The Way of the Saints

Despite its many practitioners, Santeria is difficult to see first-hand – Santeria priestesses are often wary of foreigners. It was very unusual that they allowed a camera into this secret ceremony.

Most Cubans are Catholic. Many also believe in Santeria, a syncretic religion that was brought to Cuba with the slave trade. Santeria customs include sacred drumming, animal sacrifice, and trance-like state that is used for communicating with their ancestors and deities.

Santeria isn’t just a religion – it’s a reflection of the Cuban personality.

Born of resistance and survival - and now a celebration.

Kenya: The Tribal Traditions Live On | African Renaissance | TRACKS

In Kenya, a state created barely a century ago, Afua Hirsch explores how the British spun an idealised stereotype while carving out a brutal empire. GHANA: Kings and Kente, Beaches and Forts. From Axim to Kumasi // EPS. 15

They call Ghana „Africa for beginners“ - indeed it’s one of the most stable and versatile countries in
west africa. And it’s home to more than 100 tribes and ethnic groups. Follow me on my ride across the land of kings - and get to know some of their traditions.

Our first destination in Ghana: The fishingtown Axim. Axim is not only famous for it's fishing but as well for it's beaches. So we decided to stay a night and spoil ourselves with a stay at the hotel Lou Moon Lodge.

From Axim we went on a mission: I wanted to find a place where the traditional ghanaian Kente cloth is still made: a fabric that was and is still worn by the Ashanti king.

On the way we were heading along the coast to visit some Forts: One of them San Sebastian, that is half a museum and half the post office of the village.

On our search of Kente we had to leave the coast and head inlands torwards the city Kumasi. In Bonwire and Adanwomase we finally found a Kente factory. Join the journey and visit the weavers with me, who showed me their amazing crafts and how to produce fabrics for kings!

//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face or bad quality of videos - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! Promise: my next trips after the country Benin will have much improved footage!

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.
Time of the journey: November 2019 to Feburary 2020

// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.
