DIY $5 TYVEK SLEEPING BAG BIVY and SURPLUS SLEEPING BAGS!

x

Modifying Sleeping Bag with Mylar Blanket. Thermo Test.

Testing with a thermometer to see if modifying a sleeping bag with a mylar space blanket will actually increase heat retention without increasing weight of gear or space taken.

The test was ran in 15 minute increments, after first establishing a basal temperature for the room.
Then the temperatures of the sleeping bag and mylar blanket without me in them, then with me in them individually, and finally with me in them combined. This was to see if the mylar made a practical diffirence.

Note: Initial temperature drop can be explained by the initial reading having been taken two meters above ground, and the next several readings at ground level. This should be noted, but does not influence overall findings.

WHAT TO TAKE ON YOUR FIRST WILD CAMP TRIP - INTERNATIONAL BIVVY BAG DAY - BIVY CAMP

This weeks video was filmed during international bivvy bag day. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to look at what I would take on my first bivvy bag camp.

I remember the first time I went on a wild camp, I was worried about camping alone, but also what I should take with me? So, whilst out, I thought I would go through the basics of what I would suggest to take.

Going on your first wild camp in the warm summer months means you'll need to buy less new gear, and you'll probably be able to beg or borrow what you don't have. Plus, you have the warm summer night, possibly a beautiful sunset and sunrise, so less gear to take, a warm night, so no special sleeping bags or wet weather gear to worry about.

Here is my video explaining what I think you need for your first wild camp.

Simple prompt packing list

Backpack
Tent or shelter
Sleeping bag or quilt
Sleeping mat
PIllow
Cookking pot
Cooker and fuel
Lighter/flame
Water + Filter + Bottle
Food Bag (food and snacks)
First aid
Map/Navigation
Phone
Charger
Torch/Headlamp
Toilet
Spare clothes (tailor for conditions)
Cold Gear (hat/gloves etc)
Rain gear.

REMEMBER TO TAKE THE GEAR FOR THE FORECAST/AREA, IF YOU'RE GOING TO REMOTE AREAS - TAKE PRECAUTIONS!!!!!

I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks Kevin

The First Morning, alone, soloing the Golden Ears

This is the Morning after the first Brutal day of Hiking. I am on the Panorama ridge approx 1500 metres, so I slept in the open with no tent just me in a Bivy sack. The night was cold at times, snow was only twenty feet away from me in August.
