I'm one year in building a homestead in these two stone barns at this plot of land in the mountains in Piedmont, Italy. The first months I focused on the electricity, water connection and creating comfortable space to live on the land, whilst I was waiting for the building permit.

Abandoning our Van in Africa
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! But after nearly 6 months, we realized that our dreams of continuing van life across North America in our new van build were not a current reality with the state of the world. So, we've found ourselves pursuing something we've dreamed of since we first got together 8 years ago... a cabin in the woods ????

But, if 2020 taught us anything it was to embrace change so with that spirit we are looking forward to all of the many blessings, lessons and love that 2021 has in store for us all.
Speaking of change, this week really shakes things up for us! For starters, we become foster parents to a sweet elder dog named Mossa. His owner of 11 years has recently passed away so we look forward to giving him a great life until we can find his forever home. ANNNDDDD in continuation of the hanging drywall fiasco from last week we give mudding & taping a go lol. Help!

TOUR MY TINY A FRAME CABIN | BUILT IN ONLY 7 DAYS
Welcome to my Tiny A Frame Cabin near the Twin Cities of Minnesota! I built this little cabin and campsite within days of moving back to my home state with my wife from Los Angeles, California. It was created to be a getaway into nature while transitioning to our new life in the Midwest. The cabin is a variation of Derek Diedricksen's Transforming A-Frame Cabin, with the transforming wall being left out, and a solid wall with a wood stove being substituted in. This was my first build ever and a great confidence boost that's led to additional builds like the Travel Cabin. The structure and exterior of the cabin took only 7 days to build! I hope you enjoy the tour of our little slice of paradise.

DEMOLITION IN THE WOODS | Cabin Series P1
This week we are working on the bathroom and guess what?!?! We are finally blow torching the floors
How did this all start?
In February of 2021 Alicia and I met in Florida and in under 1 month we dated long distance. It didn’t last long as she flew 3 hours then drove another 12 to see me and we never looked back. That very week we moved into a 2021 travel trailer. Alicia bought a truck and we pulled that trailer across the Midwest for 5 months. We lived, worked and saw amazing sights on this trailer.
Fast forward a bit and you find us staying ins temporary home in Michigan while we find a Forever place to call home not on wheels. We love being adventuring the great outdoors, hugging trees, hunting mushrooms, chasing cotton Candy skies while also being self sufficient. Now a year later we find our selves on 15.32 acres where we will be renovating a run down old Camp into an Off-Grid Cabin. We are excited and nervous all at the same time as we tackle this project with our own two (4) hands making this the homestead of our dreams.

Epic Cabin Renovation | AN AIRBNB IN THE WISCONSIN NORTHWOODS | in just 2 weeks!
We spent the last two weeks up in the Wisconsin northwoods renovating an awesome lakefront cabin! We had 2 weeks to complete the ENTIRE renovation from start to finish, demolition until final cleaning for our new Airbnb guests! Did we finish? You'll have to watch to find out!

Old 1955 Cottage Demolished on West Island - Makes way for new home
A vintage West Island cottage built-in 1955 was demolished August 19, 2019 to make way for a new home at the corner of Bluepoint Rd and Dogwood St. The cottage was one of the originals that gave the island its unique charm and identity. There's still a few remaining scattered about, some (but not all) now surrounded by silly McMansions. A sign of the times. More changes to the neighborhood with Bluepoint Rd getting blacktopped anytime now. The 70-year-old dirt road has been marked off with stakes.

One of these trees arches directly over the cabin so it can’t be cut down easily. This specific tree is one of the reasons why we bought our bucket truck in the first place.
One thing about this project, the view is spectacular. Not only did we go up forty feet to the top of the boom, but we’re on top of a hill overlooking the river which is around one hundred and twenty feet below the treetop.
This was my first experience cutting down part of a tree while I was tethered up in it. An unprotected fall here would be certain death.
Now you know why we call this “Safety Optional”.
