Let's discover some of the Mauritius food you have to try when visiting the island. A convenient way to sample many of the popular street foods of Mauritius (and learn about its history) is through a food tour of Port Louis. We had a great experince with Taste Buddies, a local company that runs 3 -hour food tours both in Port Louis and in the South of the island. Of course, you can also have a DIY Mauritius street food tour, using the shops we visited as guidance. Everything we tried was delicious, the dholl puri being our favorite!

A PERFECT DAY EXPLORING MAURITIUS: Trying Mauritian Food in Flic en Flac (Mauritius Road Trip Ep. 4)
In this video we’re spending a perfect day exploring Mauritius by car. We start the day at the beach in Flic en Flac at our favourite beach spot. We then review our favourite ice cream that’s from Mauritius (called Kulfi Malai) and super tasty! For lunch we taste delicious Mauritian/Creole food at a family restaurant called Creole Shack. Our plan was then to drive further inland to check out the local market in Quatre Bornes and the park on top of a dormant volcano called Trou aux Cerfs. In the evening we make it back just in time to Flic en Flac to enjoy a great sunset at our favourite beach spot.

3 BEST Mauritian Street food to try in Port Louis
On our recent trip to Port Louis, Mauritius we spent some time at the central market. One of the best ways to experience a country and culture is through the food / street food. Mauritius has some amazing food, influenced by it’s Indian, Chinese and African cultures. The central market is one of the best places to experience the best Mauritian food.
The market has a massive selection of fruit and vegetables. Mauritius is a tropical island, so no surprise we ate litchi, pineapple and coconut. Some of the street food things that I really enjoy eating is Dhal Puri. Dhal Puri is a thin, flat bread that is filled with a savoury filling, rolled out flat, and then cooked on a hot stone. At 12 Rupees or 25 Euro Cents, this is a cheap, delicious snack. At the same stalls you can find chilli bites or Gateau Piment which are delicious chilli flavoured balls. For desert I like Napolitaine or Gateau Napolitaine which are little pink frosted buttery biscuit treats. Of course we also at at a number of restaurants where the best Mauritian food can be found, including Chicken and prawn curry, smoked marlin, wild boar stew and rougaille saucisse or sausage stew.

We went to the street food market in Grand Baie in the north of Mauritius to see how much food we could buy for $10. We got to try a lot of the Mauritian speciality foods such as Roti / Farata, Boulettes, Gateaux Piments, Samosas, fried noodles, Biriyani & Haleem.

Food capital of Mauritius? - Phoenix Route A10
We walk down the A10 Road in Phoenix, and while there are a few regular shops, a dance studio, and a bank, this road is mostly food shops. From Cozy burger, QFC, Amigos, and hundreds of snack shops and street sellers, you have a choice of almost anything your heart desires. We tried more than a few and end up stuffed full of delicious goodies. I suggest a stroll down this road as a DIY street food tour, followed by the Zumba dance class at the end.
