Czech Republic (Europe) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Czech Republic.
Prague, the Czech Republic’s capital, ‘Golden City’, is full of history. The entrance to the historic centre of Stare Mesto is formed by the Late Gothic, Powder Tower. The Altstädter Ring is known as the heart of the city and the large Old Town Square is framed by magnificent, elegant town houses and churches. The most famous of all the bridges across the Vltava is the Charles Bridge from where the Coronation route led from Vyšehrad to Prague Castle on the Hradschin. Kutna Hora is situated close to Prague and historically is one of the country’s most important cities and rightly referred to as a treasure chest. Due to valuable deposits of silver, apart from Prague, it was the most important city in the Kingdom of Bohemia from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century. In the peaceful hills of Bohemia’s Moravian Highlands, is Litomyšl and its splendid mediaeval marketplace. It was once located on an important trading route, a fact that enabled its inhabitants to enjoy much prosperity. The tranquil town of Kromĕříž in the southeast of todays’ Czech Republic is a milestone of nineteenth century Habsburgian history. Following the devastation of the Thirty Years’ War, Bishop Charles Liechtenstein had the castle rebuilt. Kromĕříž Castle was the traditional summer residence of the bishops of Olomouc and became a key influence in the town’s cultural life. In the west is Telč, once an important trading post between Prague and Vienna. In the thirteenth century the small settlement was protected by a castle and in the fourteenth century was granted the status of a city. Today it is considered to be the most beautiful mediaeval town in the Czech Republic. Picturesque villages, impressive castles and mediaeval towns have made this country into a priceless gem. Here fairy tales and legends still blossom and today the Czech Republic is most certainly a cultural land set within the very heart of Europe.

Prague Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations

The capital of the Czech Republic is also called ‘the golden city’, the ‘mother of cities’, but its most fitting name is the ‘city of 100 spires’. In the old town there are the towers of the City Hall, the Tyn temple and the Magazine. The puppet play of its famous Astronomical clock is marvelled at by thousands every hour. The Jewish district is famous of its old cemetery and the Synagogue. The Charles Bridge with its 30 statues lead to the other side of the Vltava. The other part has plenty of very good restaurants. The green dome of the Saint Nicholas Church can be seen above the citizens houses. The Prague Castle is one of Europe’s most beautiful castle districts with gothic, renessaince and baroque palaces, with a royal palace, parks, temples. Whoever visits Prague, won’t forget the Wenceslas Square and the famous pubs the ‘U Kalycha’ and the ‘U Fleku’. While wandering on the medieval streets we understand why this place became the setting for the legends of Dalibor, Faust, Rabbi Löw and the Golem.

Hradcany Praha (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Hradcany Praha in Czech Republic.
For centuries the city of Prague on the River Vlatava has possessed a special kind of magic. The impressive quantity of historic buildings has made the city one of the most popular destinations in Europe for tourists from all over the world. Dating from the time of Charles The Fourth, the Charles Bridge is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and was created by one of Prague’s most celebrated architects, Peter Parler. The ascent of the legendary Castle Hill with its world famous Hradschin also features several beautifully decorated historic buildings. The one thousand year history of Prague’s Castle Hill began in 925 A.D. when the region was ruled by Wenzel who built a modest-looking rotunda for Saint Vitus. For pilgrims, both the Hradcany, and most notably the Loreta Sanctuary, are among the most popular religious destinations in the Czech Republic. In addition to the impressive facade created by Christoph Dientzenhofer, the richly sculptured decorations reflect the architectural styles of the 17th and 18th centuries. Saint Vitus Cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and the largest in the Czech Republic. With the official ordination of the cathedral on September 28th 1929 its six century period of construction finally reached its glorious conclusion. Despite its mixture of various historical epochs and their various styles the overall effect of the building can be described as nothing less than magnificent. A special tourist attraction is a tiny yet historic gem, Golden Lane, once renowned for its infamous alchemists. However, despite its rather disastrous history of alchemy and due also to the existence of the Hradcany, Prague is quite rightly still known as, The Golden City.

Trebic (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Trebic in the Czech Republic.
Situated in the southwest of the Czech region of Mähren is Třebič, a small town located picturesquely on the banks of the River Iglawa where, in 1101 A.D., Benedictine monks founded a monastery on a hill around which there was a market that attracted many merchants. Directly adjacent to the monastery is a Renaissance castle which originated from the monastery during the fifteenth century. It was later given Baroque design and today it is a museum. Many Jews immigrated to the town and founded a Jewish quarter which to this day has been preserved and with its small streets, synagogues and more than a hundred and twenty buildings, has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Jewish cemetery is located on a hill above the Jewish quarter. With approximately three thousand graves it is one of the largest in the Czech Republic and documents the former size of the Jewish community. Třebič is an historical cultural site and at the same time a poignant memorial of the past.

Prague Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Praha in Czech Republic.
Prague is a golden city of a hundred towers, a gem on the Moldau and a young city with a long history. The most famous of all bridges across the Moldau is the Charles Bridge that connects the old town of Stare Mesto with the city district of Mala Strane below Castle Mountain. Old Town Square is the name of a picturesque square in the centre of the old town surrounded by houses and churches whose facades form a colourful blend of numerous architectural styles. Prague Castle originated from a Slavic settlement in the 9th century A.D. and it is the largest castle complex in the world. The front of the main building measures more than half a kilometre. The Royal Palace is the present living quarters of the country’s president. Nearly one third of its inner courtyard belongs to St. Veits Dom a wonderful Gothic cathedral whose construction took several centuries. A boat trip on the Moldau is an absolute must on any visit to Prague. Most of the excursion boats leave from Charles Bridge close to the Kampa Peninsula. The journey travels beneath a few of the city’s sixteen bridges and the view from the boat adds a totally different perspective to the sights experienced on the city’s streets. Everyone who visits this city falls in love with it and cannot help but be totally fascinated by its special ambience. Prague is a thing of beauty in the very heart of Europe!

Praha (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Praha in Czech Republic.
Prague, the Golden City, does full justice to its name. The beauty of this historically rich metropolis on the banks of the Vlatava has been well known for several centuries. One of the city’s many architectural focal points is the Charles Bridge which since the 14th century has connected the old town district with part of the Hradschin, Prague Castle. Prague’s Astronomical Clock is world famous and not only does it display the time, it also shows the date and the corresponding sign of the Zodiac. South of the famous Hradschin Castle is the most ostentatious residence in the city, the Palais Waldstein that is of Late Italian Renaissance design. Beautiful and spacious gardens round off the elegant appearance of the palace that was built between 1624 and 1630. Petrin Hill and its sixty metre tall iron tower that dates back to 1891 is yet another attraction offered by the capital of the Czech Republic. A number of the buildings in the historic Jewish district of Josefov, such as the Old-New Synagogue, have been well preserved and the historic, romantic and enchanting atmosphere of Prague’s Jewish Cemetery has been the subject of several novels. Considering the abundance of its historic monuments it is not surprising that Prague continues to shine out in all the splendour of its glorious and colourful past.

Kroměříž (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Kromeriz in the Czech Republic.
The tranquil town of Kromĕříž in the southeast of today’s Czech Republic is a milestone of nineteenth century Habsburgian history. Kromĕříž Castle was the traditional summer residence of the bishops of Olomouc and became a key influence in the town’s cultural life. Typical statues and Baroque and Rococo figures adorn both the walls and niches of the arcades of the castle’s well-tended courtyard. An impressive staircase decorated with large figures leads to the second floor and the Picture Gallery which contains the Apollon And Marsyas by Tizian, one of the great masters of Venetian Renaissance. The Reichstag Hall is the castle’s largest room and is where the history of the nineteenth century comes to life. During the turmoil of the Bourgeois Revolution of 1848, Emperor Ferdinand The First fled from Vienna to Olomouc and the Austrian Reichstag met there and it was also where the first democratic constitution in Europe was discussed and the idea of All State power emanates from the people! Since 1998 the castle and its park and flower garden have been designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Kromĕříž Castle and gardens are among the most well preserved Baroque examples of a royal residence. Although architecturally in the Viennese style of the K & K monarchy they are notable as a fascinating symbol of democracy

Český Krumlov Castle is unusually large for a town of its size; within the Czech Republic it is second in extent only to the Hradčany castle complex of Prague. Inside its grounds are a large rococo garden, an extensive bridge over a deep gap in the rock upon which the castle is built, and the castle itself, which in turn consists of many defined parts dating from different periods.

Campania (Italy) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Campania in Italy.
Campania was once a centre of the ancient world in the Mediterranean and features gorgeous coastlines, romantic villages, paradisiacal islands and is a true cradle of European culture. Napoli is the capital of Campania. The Centro Storico Monumentale is located around the harbour. The Piazza Del Plebiscito embodies both grandeur and vastness and on one side of the square is the Chiesa San Francesco Di Paola, a church of triumph that was built by Ferdinand in 1815 following the return of the Bourbons and was modelled on the Pantheon of Rome. Measuring four square kilometres, Procida is the smallest island off Naples and is densely populated, with a long history. The sight of the picturesque Marina Grande at the Cattolico Ferry Port typifies relaxed island life and is where religious seamen built churches and houses up steep slopes to the Old Town of Terra Murata, the ‘walled land’. Ischia, the island of Titan Tiphoios, is the largest of the three islands in the Gulf Of Naples, each one now being a popular tourist destination. Both Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte appear to have developed together and contain the palazzi of the rich and fine Baroque churches. The village of Ponte is still home to fishermen who offer their tasty daily catch on the pier. Vesuvius is a place of ancient myth and catastrophe. A bizarre landscape of craters, breathing out mysterious wisps of smoke and since early times, an active volcano that last erupted in 1944. Its highly explosive potential, and nearby large population, make it the most dangerous volcanic threat in Europe. Amalfi, beating heart of the coast, is today a world famous resort squeezed into the mouth of a valley of paper mills. A land where lemon trees blossom and in which both past and present merge into a unique cultural landscape, Campania is a paradise of gods and nature!

Slovakia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Slovakia.
Slovakia has a long and varied history and contains Europe’s youngest capital city and also its highest mountain range, as well as cultural masterpieces and unspoiled nature. Bratislava is located in the heart of Europe and is the capital of Slovakia. Surrounded by the City Hall and several palaces, it is like being taken back in time into a rich and glorious past. On the Danube’s Slovakian side, and to the east, is the town of Komárno. In the old urban market square a Miniature Europe with forty five buildings has, in recent years, come into existence. Towers, domes, arcades, half-timbered buildings and woodcarvings frame the square at whose centre is the Millennium Fountain. It is a unique mixture of architecture that signifies the common culture of European countries. Seven hundred metres above sea level, herds of sheep graze peacefully on the slopes of the Great Fatra, the location of the almost hidden and forgotten Vlkolĺnec, a unique village in the heart of Slovakia’s Liptov region. Today it is tantamount to being an open-air museum. Further north is Terchová, birthplace of Slovakia’s national hero, Juraj Jánošík. The legendary robber chief has an exhibition dedicated to him in which the living conditions and customs of that time are on display. The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe. A magnificent mountain landscape with rocky mountains and many lakes. In 1947, the National Park of the same name was founded. Slovakia is a land of fortresses, castles and cities that date from the Middle Ages and, despite its many mountain regions, a southern-influenced way of life.

C'esky Krumlov (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination C'esky Krumlov in Czech Republic.
Today Česky Krumlov is a lively town and one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic. Although the history of settlement in this area dates back to the Bronze Age the high season of Bohemian Krummau can be traced back to the Middle Ages. At that time the Germans as well as the Czechs influenced the cultural and social life of the charming old town. The magnificence of the local architecture is all around and brings to life the glorious ambience of bygone times. The mighty cylindrical tower of Lower Castle has surveyed the town since the end of the 16th century and is typical of Bohemian Krummau architecture. In those days the lords of the castle kept bears within the castle’s large moat and even now they continue to be a special and somewhat unusual attraction. The interior of the town’s Renaissance castle highlights the wealth of its former noble inhabitants and contains the famous Golden Eggenbergische Carriage. Each evening the town’s centuries old buildings gleam romantically in the evening light while large quantities of world famous Bohemian beer are enjoyed in the local hostelries. Česky Krumlov, an historic and living work of art!

Hluboká (Czech Republic) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Hluboka in the Czech Republic.
Located in Czech South Bohemia is the small town of Hluboká Nad Vltavou above which towers a magnificent palace complex whose history dates back to the thirteenth century. The palace was built to protect the borders of the kingdom. Over time, it had many owners until in 1490 Vilém Of Pernštejna began to transform it. In 1562 Emperor Ferdinand The First handed the castle and its courtyard to Jáchym Of Hradec. The new owner, and later his son, Adam, further transformed the Middle Aged Fortress into a comfortable Renaissance castle. The present appearance of the castle was changed during the reign of Johann Adolf The Second who visited England several times in his youth and whose romantic castles deeply impressed him. In 1841, Viennese architect, Franz Beer, was given the task of modernising the castle in the style of English Romanticism. A ‘Bohemian’ Windsor Castle was created, a fairytale castle of Tudor Gothic and Renaissance design. Both armour and weaponry recall the glorious days of past ancestors when Adolf Of Schwarzenberg halted invasion by the Turks in Europe by conquering the Raab Fortress in 1598, a violent time when only faith sustained the people. Hluboká Castle - a fairytale in white!

Prague, world famous city on the Moldau, captivates with its remarkable monuments and unique ambience. There is hardly another Middle European metropolis that possesses so many wonderful architectural and historic treasuries thus Prague’s combination of Gothic and Baroque buildings have created a unique harmony that is truly magnificent. The Charles Bridge is without a doubt one of the most famous sights in Prague due to Emperor Karl The Fourth who ordered the construction of this marvellous Gothic stone bridge on the Vlatava. The Old Town Ring with its lavish and elegant houses has often been the setting for numerous colourful events including coronations, knights’ tournaments, political and religious meetings, and even executions and massacres. The proud Teyn Church was donated by tradesmen in 1365. The south tower was completed at the beginning of the 16th century and the wonderful design of the sacred Gothic building also applies to its interior. Karl Alley is one of the most beautiful old town lanes in the world, largely due to its beautiful Renaissance houses with their slight hint of Baroque. A mighty, high cupola towers above Kreuzherren Square and the legendary church is an ideal vantage point for many glorious views across the old town. Prague is a city of history with an amazing abundance of old world charm.

Cesky Krumlov Vacation Travel Video Guide

Extravaganza: A spectacular display of Cesky Krumlov.
Located in the Czech Republic, Česky Krumlov is a unique and extraordinary city and was first settled in the fifteenth century B.C.Each nook and cranny of this unique gem surprises with something new to see and provides a wonderful insight into the history of Bohemia. For nearly three hundred years, and up until the beginning of the seventeenth century Bohemian Krummau was ruled by the Lords Of Rosenberg. It was a time of much prosperity that in turn gave rise to many new and magnificent buildings in the centre of the town. In 1992 it was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and since then it has shined out in all of its former glory. Most of the restoration work on the town’s ancient dwelling houses, churches and monastery complexes has now been fully completed. Česky Krumlov Castle features a special attraction with a long tradition: since the end of the sixteenth century a number of bears have lived within the castle grounds! Indeed, the castle’s large moat provides more space for these wonderful creatures than they would have in any zoo. Česky Krumlov is popular with visitors from all four corners of the world and it is, without a doubt, one of the finest and most well preserved treasures of European history.
