Making our own Cup Noodles at My CUPNOODLES Factory in Yokohama Japan!
One final day in Yokohama. Of course we had to check out the Cup Noodles Museum even though we're not the biggest instant noodles fan. In moderation. Just before it opened, we grabbed admission tickets to the museum for 500¥ each AND an additional 500¥ for the My CUPNOODLES Factory experience where we get to customize our own Cup Noodles! At first we were worried there wouldn't be any available time slots left, but if you get there early, definitely won't have issues. More information here:
and just an FYI the Museum is closed on Tuesdays!
After making our Cup Noodles, we then spent some time learning a bit more about the history of instant noodles and the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant noodles. The museum was great, but we definitely would recommend the My CUPNOODLES Factory OR perhaps the Chicken Ramen Factory where you get to make your ramen from scratch!
After a really fun time at the CupNoodles Museum we walked over to the Red Brick Warehouse to do some shopping and check out local snacks. One thing we greatly appreciate is that this whole area is super walk friendly. It's an easy walk through Zou-no-hana Park (which, fun fact. It means Elephant's Trunk due to the shape of this area on a map!) to Yamashita Park. And if you're a Gundam fan, you can then walk over to the Gundam Factory!

Cup Noodles (カップヌードル, Kappu Nūdoru) is a brand of instant cup noodle ramen invented in 1971 and manufactured by Nissin. A single serving is packaged in a foam food container, or else a plastic or paper cup. Other brand names are used in specific countries, as in Japan the singular form Cup Noodle. The product has inspired numerous competing products, such as Maruchan's Instant Lunch.

What to do in Osaka? Make ramen at the cup noodle museum, personalise your own pot noodle, free entry to the museum
What a fab day at the Cup Noodle Museum in Ikeda, Osaka. It was a bit of a trek getting there but totally worth it for two instant ramen lovers like us!
When looking it up online I'd seen they do a chicken ramen making class which had limited numbers and could be booked online but the website was all in Japanese. I could see that most of the days had been booked out already so I didn't have much hope for doing it.
Then we got super lucky! We got the last 2 spots in a class that started 30mins after we arrived! I couldn't believe it. But even if you can't do the ramen class the cup noodle thing downstairs is also fun and does not require pre-booking.
Both activities were super cheap; 500yen (£3.50) for the ramen class and 300yen (£2) for the cup noodle. Entry to the museum is free.

The Yokohama Cup Noodles Museum is the best place to visit in Yokohama. It has plenty to offer. The theme of creativity, is a celebration of the creative thinking of Momofuku Ando, the mastermind behind instant noodles. Since his groundbreaking invention in 1958, Ando never stopped striving to create the dried noodle game. By sharing his story, the museum hopes to inspire visitors to be inventive, creative and look things differently. And at only a few hundred yen entrance fee, it's a cheapest inspiration.
You can purchase the ticket in advance at any Lawson Convenience Store.

This is the only Nissin Instant noodle museum outside Japan is found in Hong Kong!
This small, but super fun museum is found tucked in the corner of the Macau Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. I went on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds but also because I REALLY wanted to join the instant noodle making workshop. They run 3 different workshops every day, with the instant noodle one always sold out on weekends.
The workshop was 90min long and $120 hkd and took me from flour & salt to a packaged sesame oil flavoured pack of Nissin’s Instant noodles! Don’t worry about your cooking abilities or your artistic abilities as the workshop was easy to follow and there was one instructor for every 2 participants.
It’s definitely a unique momento of your trip to Hong Kong or just childhood lazy-but-delicious meals.

DIY CUP NOODLES IN JAPAN (Cup Noodles Museum Ikeda in Osaka)
Design-Your-Own instant noodle cup ramen from start to finish at the 'Cup Noodles Museum' located in Ikeda (not Yokohama). Ikeda is a 40-min train ride away from central Osaka and will make for a fun half-day adventure. My favorite spots in the museum are the Instant Noodles Tunnel, Cup Noodles Factory, and Exhibition of Instant Noodles Wall.

The admission is FREE! But, there are two attraction fees.
1. Instant Noodle Cup to design (first level)
400 Yen = $4-5 Cad

Making Ramen from Scratch, at the Cup Noodle Museum!
The Cupnoodles Museum is designed to store the creativity and curiosity within every child and provide a rich educational experience. Through the museum's many exhibits, you can learn about the creative thinking of Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissan Food Products and inventor of Chicken Ramen, the world's first instant ramen that revolutionized eating customs all over the world.
This video captures one of the main attractions - the Chicken Ramen Factory! Here we made Chicken Ramen by hand starting with kneading, spreading, and steaming the wheat flour and then drying it with the hot oil drying method. After experiencing the process that led to the invention of the world's first instant ramen, we took our freshly made ramen with us toenjoy its delicious taste at home.
This special instructor led class costs 300 yen for elementary school children, and 500 yen for Junior high school and up.
