What to do With 1 Day in Jaipur

We only had one day to explore Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, so we were sure to make it count! Visiting Jaipur is one of the most common travel destination in India and it really is for good reason! There are a lot of things to do in this city so we had to carefully choose what we wanted to fit into our one day in Jaipur.

Our first stop in this travel vlog is the famous Amber Fort (or Amer Fort), which we learned was a palace for previous Maharaja and is a beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. Not only is the architecture at Amber Fort stunning, but the accessibility to so much of the fort makes it a really fun place to explore.

The next place we visited in Jaipur was a famous photo spot called the Panna Meena ka Kund Stepwell, and man is it stunning! It's so photogenic, even if the water colour is a little iffy :p

After a quick look at Jal Mahal (which makes for a nice quick pit stop), we visited the most anticipated tourist attraction of the day; Hawa Mahal! The incredible Wind Palace is everything we imagined it to be, although we didn't anticipate just how loud it is! The street in front of Hawa Mahal is very busy, and when you add all the tourists and shop keepers into the mix, it can quickly become overwhelming. We loved seeing Hawa Mahal and could have stayed for hours taking various photos and videos; it really is an amazing structure and is Jaipur's number 1 tourist attraction for good reason!

Last but not least, we toured around the City Palace to see how the modern day Royalty live. Surprisingly, this is actually the stop that we would suggest you skip if you're short on time in Jaipur. Unless you pay extra for entry into special rooms, the palace itself doesn't offer visitors as much to see or do as we expected. If you only have one day in Jaipur like we did, maybe skip a visit to the City Palace and check out another fort or explore the Rajasthani cuisine a bit more!

If you are headed to Jaipur soon and need an awesome tuktuk driver, we highly recommend reaching out to Dinesh to see if he's available :) He can be reached by What'sApp at +91-9314870222 or email at dineshdhap@yahoo.com

We hope this video helps you plan your visit to Jaipur, especially if you only have one day in the Pink City!

Dinner in Jaipur (Let's Eat Rajasthani Food!) ????????

Always keep to try the local food, my first dinner in Jaipur was a Rajasthani Tali. I wasn't feeling so hungry until I grabbed a quick lassi at the Bapu Bazar market and that perked up my appetite.

Rajasthani food is vegetarian as it's a part of India with a massive Hindu majority population. You pretty much need to get used to eating veg in Jaipur. Non veg restaurants do exist but certainly aren't' everywhere.

The restaurant that I went to, LMB (Laxmi Mishthan Bhandar), is rather famous in Jaipur. It's famous for it's massive Rajasthani Thali which provides a sample of many different Rajasthan foods with unlimited refills.

I didn't even know about the unlimited refills, otherwise I would have went there on a more empty stomach. I definitely didn't get the full value out of that meal, which is definitely expensive by local standards but a nice treat and a perfect way for a tourist to sample the local food.

As you'd expect in an expensive restaurant, the staff are very well trained and speak English well. That meant I was able to get a good explanation of the food. It's always good to know what you're eating. Half the time in India I don't know what the food is, although that never stops me from trying it.

Food info:
1) Khad Lam (Slow Cooked Underground Lamb):

Khad lamb (means cooking lamb in a pit in the ground)
Earlier soldiers didn’t want to leave any trace of smoke so that they can hide hence discovered this way of cooking.
Earlier it was rabbit meat but now since it banned so we are cooking lamb.

Making of garam masala- Roast all the following ingredients and pound it together: green cardamom, black pepper, cloves, coriander seeds, black cardamom, turmeric, bay leaves and caramelized onion powder.

Basic marination- Make cuts on the leg of the lamb and put minced garlic with lots of freshly prepared garam masala.

Next for the paste-mix red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric, salt and lots of ghee.

Add this paste to the basic marination with a base of rotis and banana leaves. Cover it with a wet jute sack so that it doesn’t burn as it needs to be in direct contact with the fire for 2 hours in the pit.

2) Junglee Mass (Wild meat)
Five Ingredients Recipe-
If hunting, you get stranded, these are easily available in any village
Red chilli powder, Ghee, Salt, Dal or lentil, Coriander seeds, Lamb pieces. In a wok, combine everything together till the meat is soft and tender.

JAIPUR CITY TRAVEL GUIDE | Things To Do In Jaipur, India (Visiting The Pink City In Rajasthan)

Come join us as visit Jaipur 'The Pink City' of Rajasthan in this travel guide covering some of the best things to do in Jaipur, India. Compared to some other cities in Rajasthan, India the main attractions in Jaipur are relatively spread out (especially the forts) meaning hiring an autorickshaw for the day or taking a tour is your best bet to cover them in a short period of time since walking is out of the question.

However, we made the mistake of joining a tour with the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and quite frankly it was awful. Our guide was disinterested and lacked any passion for the places he was showcasing. Moreover, he didn't care about the whereabouts of the group members. The only concern he had was making sure we made plenty of unscheduled 'commissioned' shopping stops along the way while rushing us through the main attractions that people actually joined the tour to visit.

It was honestly one of the worst experiences we've had on a tour since we've been traveling together. I'm sure it seemed we complained a lot in this video (and we did) but it is just an honest 'in the moment' reaction to how frustrated we felt on this tour. Do visit Jaipur and do check out all of these attractions but don't take the same tour we did. It sucked!

10 Things to do in Jaipur Travel Guide:

1) Birla Mandir Hindu Temple (Laxmi Narayan Temple) dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi
2) Albert Hall Museum - officially the state museum of Rajasthan
3) Jantar Mantar astronomical instruments built by the Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II (जंतर मंतर)
4) City Palace, Jaipur, including the Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal as well as Diwan-i-Aam
5) Jaigarh Fort (जयगढ़ क़िला) built by Jai Singh II to protect the Amber Fort
6) Nahargarh Fort 'abode of tigers' overlooking the pink city of Jaipur
7) Pav bhaji for lunch (पाव भाजी) vegetable curry with cheese and bread rolls
8) Amer Fort (Hindi: आमेर क़िला or Amber Fort main tourist attraction
9) Jal Mahal (Water Palace) located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake
10) Many unofficial 'commissioned' shopping in Jaipur

Our visit Jaipur travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions in the Pink City including top museums, shopping for souvenirs, the City Palace and fascinating forts with city views. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Jaipur tourism brochure, Jaipur city tour or Jaipur itinerary.

Jaipur City Guide | Rajasthan India Travel Video Transcript:

Today we are in Jaipur (जयपुर). We're visiting the Pink City. We have signed up for a full day tour from 9am to 6pm. And it is basically a bus tour that is going to be taking us to the main highlights in Jaipur (जयपुर).

We then hopped back on the bus, drove past the Albert Hall Museum, and continued to the next stop on our itinerary: Jantar Mantar (जंतर मंतर).

The name Jantar Mantar (जंतर मंतर) translates to ‘calculating instrument’, and it is a collection of 19 structures that date back to the 18th century. These instruments were used to predict eclipses, track stars, and measure time.

From there it was just a short walk to the City Palace. Like most of the city, the palace is also painted pink, which is the colour of hospitality. This was done in 1876, to welcome the Prince of Wales and Queen Victoria when they did their India tour. Inside the palace complex, you can visit a museum and the armoury.

From the Jaigarh Fort (जयगढ़ क़िला) it was a short drive to Nahargarh Fort and Palace. I wish I could tell you we got to see a bit of the palace, but as you’ve probably already noticed, the theme of the day was rushed so we grabbed a quick bite of food.

We then hopped back on the bus to go visit our third fort of the day: the Amer Fort (आमेर क़िला). Back down, we got a quick glimpse at Jal Mahal 'the Lake Palace' in the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

This is part of our Travel in India video series showcasing Indian food, Indian culture and Indian cuisine.

Credits to: Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, City Palace Jaipur Museum

Situated near Hawa mahal. Mainly a residential place of the royal family of Jaipur with a display of articles from earlier rulers. The weapons museum is situated on the first floor.
It Contains a raj darbar type decoration which is good and houses several more things. Various kinds of weapons are found in this museum. We can see different kinds of pistols and daggers here. Pistols with double barrels, three barrels and four barrels are one of the greatest attractions of the museum. Long barrels guns are also displayed in the museum. They could only be transported by keeping them on the back of the camel or elephant as these guns are very heavy because of the long barrels. These guns also attract tourists. Various types of swords, daggers, shields are also kept in the museum as a special attraction.
